Fabregas to Barcelona!

Today's supposed to be put-up-the-£40M-or-shut-up day and Barca's ultima offer of 38M euros has been rejected.

Barca's pursuit is becoming rather shameful now. It seems quite clear that their tactic is to seriously unsettle the player to try and get him for a fraction of what he's worth.

Fair play to Arsenal for not just surrendering.

About £33M and only 29M euros fixed with two variable bits of 6 and 3 (they were counting the 6 as covered by the compensation for Toral Harper and Bellerin - I assume that's off the table otherwise it's an even more derisory offer).

I can see one of these major players testing their contract's validity in court soon as an unjustified restraint of trade.

Embarrassing by Barca.

Fabregas is a £50m player - absolutely no question.

I expect him to be with Le Arse next season. Nasri too.

Arsene Wenger needs to make some moves now and get a couple of top quality players. Mata and Cahill would be good additions but Wenger doesn't want to even pay market price for them. The bids for Jag and Cahill were embarrassing...

Arsenal can hardly be moaning about Barca's low bids for Fabregas when they're always looking to get players on the cheap themselves.

Let's tempt them with a £20M offer for Thiago whilst they need the cash to fund the Fabregas deal.

Well exactly. I'm sure the former clubs of Chamakh and Squillaci (amongst others) won't have much sympathy with Arsenal over Barca trying to get one of their players to force his employers to sell him for less than they think he's worth.

Arsenal don't have to sell Cesc this summer. He has three more years on his contract. So they can demand high transfer fees next year too.

12.21: The BBC are contradicting the claim on SSN that Arsenal have rejected Barca's latest bid for Cesc Fabregas. According to Dan Roan:

'Arsenal chief executive Ivan Gazidis will meet Barcelona officials on Friday over the future of Cesc Fabregas.

'BBC Sport has learnt that the Gunners are yet to receive a second bid beyond the £27m Barca offered last month.

'But the club are prepared to sell their 24-year-old skipper if the Spanish giants meet their £40m valuation.'

:(

I don't understand why we don't publicly offer 40m + 200k a week. He's the player we need, I wouldn't take anyone over him, he would be pure class at United.

Cesc will either stay at Arsenal or go to Barca. There is no other option, and as long as Barca dont come up with serious money, they will have to wait for another 2 years to get him on the cheap. Arsenal must be fed up with the acting of Barca, and honestly, its not worth a top club

It's so boring this. I personally would strip him of the captaincy - not because he's unprofessional, but it's embarrassing that we're captained by someone who isn't going to be here long term.

If Arsenal buy a decent centre half (maybe Cahill or Jagielka) and with Fabregas apparently staying, they should be serious contenders this year.

What's this United fad of all their fans being based in London? Makes you sound like a wanker.

There just aren't any good London teams to support so we have to look further afield.

I'd love to see Arsenal tell them to get fecked.

Surely Cesc would have to accept that Arsenal cant let him go for less than they value him at just because he wants to go.

I've thought for a while that our position is 'if Barca offer fair value you can go but we're not selling you cheap'. £40M is 20% off if you ask me.

Looks like the only way things are going to change is if Fabregas refuses to play in the CL qualifiers, which I don't see happening. Will Nasri go to auction if Fabregas isn't sold?

Yeah I think most people would agree with that. I'd say 50million minimum given not only how good he is but also his contract situation and age.

I actually think thats quite a fair price.

I think he'll be sold if Fabregas stays and we'll buy Mata as a replacement.

And if Cesc goes Nasri goes to the centre and Mata replaces him.

I just cant work out why Wenger hasn't already brought Mata in.

Not going to Portugal with the team for the pre-season.

Because he wouldn't go to us (he loves Arsenal, just not as much as Barca) and Arsenal would rather sell him for less to a foreign team than to their title 'rivals'.

Would be fun though. :)
