Fabregas to Barcelona!

Barca's Bartolomeu is in town so we'll soon see if he raided the piggy-bank before he got on the plane.

Had Fabregas kept slightly more discreet about wanting to leave etc, Barcelona probably would have paid in the region of 40million+. He only has himself to blame IMO that the deal hasn't happened sooner.

He's being undervalued by Barca and they're going to nick a great midfielder at a price which isn't insulting but could easily be squeezed for several millions more.

Considering how difficult it is to bring in and replace world class players, especially when other teams see you selling for big money, Arsenal would be sensible to say something like cash + Pedro and Affelay.

There is no point holding out for a huge sale if you are not able to spend it due to a lack of targets or the fear of getting ripped off.

Why on Earth would they ever agree to that?

Fabregas is comfortably the best midfielder in the league.

When Andy Carrol is going for £35 fecking million (makes me sick to my stomach), Arsenal should be getting £50m minimum.

That shouldn't be the benchmark and it's very unlikely it would be.

The entire universe knows how retarded that transfer price was and I doubt arsenal and barca would be looking at it during negotiations, as it was just Liverpool foolishness.

If that's the benchmark Arsenal should get £ 140 million for Fabregas.

Gunners boss Arsene Wenger confirmed at Friday afternoon's press conference ahead of the competition that his captain would not play.

Fabregas' omission comes as Barcelona are looking to bring the World Cup winner back to the Camp Nou but Arsenal remain determined to hold out for a £40million fee.

The Spanish ace has not featured in any of Arsenal's pre-season games, with the club saying he needs to work on his match fitness following a troublesome hamstring.

Confirming his continued omission, Wenger said: "He is not settled, with his injury and his situation.

"That has to be sorted out soon."

Wenger maintains he has to concentrate on those players who are fully committed to the Arsenal cause.

"There is only one deadline, it is on August 31. The other deadline is for us to get everybody focused, the players who are really committed to the club, my energy and my focus goes on them," he said.

"That is what I focus on, I cannot help the other situation, because it does not only depend on me, it depends on the players and on the other clubs."

He has to be gone before the end of the summer now

I think he'll leave, Nasri will stay for one year and they'll sign Mata.

I really hate Barcelona. I hope he goes there and is shit.

Barca aren't going to pay 45M euros so it looks like he's not going anywhere.

If he is not going to leave how is he going to be fit for the start of the season since he hasn't played in any of their games so far and he has just been ruled out of the Emirates Cup. If anything I would think he is going to leave.

Thiago as the Iniesta replacement and Fabregas as the Xavi replacement, maybe?

I still believe £40m is a joke of fee for Fabregas. I can't believe Barca are so lucky. They somehow find a way to pay lower than asked for fees.

I know, but Iniesta's fairly injury-prone and Xavi's been picking up injuries recently:

"I had some problems with my Achilles tendon last year and I’ve had a few problems with my calf this year, so I have started the pre-season quite gently. The work I've been doing so far this pre-season is to help prevent any injuries,"

That'll give opportunities to Thiago and may shorten Xavi's career, may give more opportunities to Fabregas.

And Barca are just greedy, bound to come back and bite them on the arse at some point. They bought Deco despite already having Xavi and Iniesta there, it didn't work out too badly.

Maybe they are trying to build two teams:

Messi

Pedro-----------------------------------------Sanchez

Iniesta--------------Xavi-----------Busquets

Abidal------------Pique-----------Puyol--------------Alves

Villa

Afellay--------------------Thiago------------------Hleb/Suarez

Fabregas-----------------------------Keita

Maxwell--------------Milto--------------Mascherano------?

Then there's Bartra, Muniesa, Fontás, Deulofeu, Rafinha, Sergi Roberto, Jonathan...

They don't seem very good at developing strikers, that's pretty much it.

I think that by the end of the transfer window he will either join Barcelona or stay at Arsenal.

Barca need to stop dicking around. If they really want the player they should pay what he's worth and not try to get him for the price of a Lescott and change.

Do you mean that Barcelona should table a formal bid of value higher than what Joleon Lescott cost when he switched teams between Everton FC and Manchester City?

Against poorer opponents, Barcelona could easily play a midfield three of Xavi, Iniesta and Fabregas, with Xavi as the deepest player.

Iniesta sometimes occupies the left wing as well, which makes room for Fabregas in midfield.

Barcelona are expected to make a renewed bid for Arsenal captain Cesc Fabregas after Pep Guardiola admitted that he is missing just one player.

The European champions have been chasing the Spain international for two years and the midfielder is himself thought to want to return to his boyhood club.

Arsenal have this summer already rejected a £26million bid from Barcelona for Fabregas, while the English club's chairman, Peter Hill-Wood, has also said another 'tentative' offer has been unsuccessful.

Fabregas is thought to be valued at a minimum of £40m by Arsenal, but Barcelona's next offer is reportedly set to be worth just £27m - a figure that is unlikely to tempt The Gunners into doing business with the Camp Nou outfit.

But, having already signed Chile star Alexis Sanchez from Udinese in July, Barcelona manager Guardiola has offered a less than subtle hint that he is still determined to complete a deal for Fabregas.

Guardiola is quoted as saying in the Daily Telegraph: "We're short of just one player and everyone knows which one that is."

The loss of Fabregas would come as a bitter setback for Arsenal fans, who at the weekend booed their team from the field following a 1-1 draw with New York Red Bulls.

Manager Arsene Wenger's failure to complete a major signing in the transfer window has been another cause for complaint, despite the interest in Valencia's Juan Mata, Everton's Phil Jagielka and Blackburn's Chris Samba.

And Hill-Wood has explained: "As Arsene said, we are looking to buy some players, but we are not going to do our business in public."

arse fans will be gutted. ;)

£27 million is a joke. I really think we should put in a £40million bid publicly just to see what happens.

I don't think Fabregas will be happy playing only against "poorer sides".

They'll have their usual three, plus Thiago (who must at least have been promised games to sign a new deal) and potentially Fabregas. Five players for three positions.

Iniesta is far more effective in the middle than on the left, as well as the fact that they now have Sanchez vying for a place with Messi (who starts every game if fit) Pedro and Villa.

For me Fabregas doesnt get into Barca's best XI - if he's happy with that then fine, but I find it bizzare. My bet, they sign him and in 18 months he's moaning about not getting picked for the big games.

This transfer saga is more boring than Ronaldo's in 2008. If Barcelona want the player, bid what Arsenal are asking.

Personally I cannot see Fabregas getting into that side until Xavi retires

Sky reporting that Arsenal have rejected another offer, and are holding out for £40m.

At this stage, I am willing to chip in just to get this fecking thing done. Let's have a Cafe whip round.

It's funny because Arsenal are really holding out for an offer that is still way below his real value. He'd basically cost similar money to Pastore and Sanchez, neither of whom is even close to that level.

Pastore and Sanchez's transfer fee has been inflated by clubs who are financially backed by rich investors. Arsenal wouldn't have a prayer of selling him at over 40mil to anyone other than those same clubs.

Barca isn't one of them. But what they do have on their side is Fabregas single mindedness in joining them. Even if we hypothetically threw in a 40mil bid which Arsenal accepts, he will not want to move here. Well that's the way I see it anyway.

That being said, Arsenal should not sell at anything below that, if at all. Losing your main star and captain to an European rival is not ideal, but being forced to sell him on the cheap would be borderline disastrous in terms of prestige and image.

Add to the fee being below what it should be that without him they could drop out of the top 4, how much would that cost them?

All well and good him wanting to go there and them wanting him if they cant afford him its sort of tough shit isnt it?

Arsenal need to show some balls, that would hardly be in character though.

Next year his transfer value might not come close to that. A year can make all the difference in the world. I say, take your £20m and be happy Arsenal.

Sanchez was signed by exact same club who didn't have a problem spending £35m on him.
