Fabio Coentrao to Madrid

Replacement for Ashley Cole at Chelsea in the summer?

Wouldn't surprise me. Shame, he'd be a perfect Evra replacement. Actually plays a lot like a mid-career Evra (although with a little more composure and a little less adventure, I suppose).

Then again, Evra's doing ok this season and hopefully has long enough in him for us to sort Fabio out so that he's at the stage Rafa was when Neville retired, ready to step in.

I'd love him here tbh.

He's a bit like Torres in that he was bought for such a massive fee that, barring Madrid being willing to take a big loss on him, he's unlikely to move any time soon.

I seriously have no idea why Madrid signed him - they had Marcelo who was probably the best in the world for his position at the time. Crazy.

Mourinho's always been big on two players for each position. When he was at Chelsea he criticised Madrid for their lack of "a group of second-line players to give support.” Hence the signings of Coentrao, Albiol and Adebayor - all experienced first-team players at second tier clubs, but rotated reserves at Madrid.

Dirty little fecker he is! Marcelo is better than him both defensively and offensively.

If that article is correct, Coentrao and Di Maria would be fantastic additions to our squad.

If they're not good enough for Madrid then let's not bring them here. Especially a defender.
Robben, Sneijder and countless others have been deemed not good enough for Madrid but gone on to be much better players elsewhere

Would require selling Evra and Fergie's far too loyal, he didn't drop him once in his 2 year spell of poor form, he's not going to sell him now he's actually had a decent season (still some way off his peak for us).

The way Marca put it, it's like Bale's already headed to Madrid. Well I suppose if Spurs don't qualify for the CL chances are that it will happen.

Spurs have to be willing to sell, Real to offer more money than anyone else, and Bale to favour them, for the transfer to happen. None of those things may be true.

But they all seem eminently likely, based on past experience. Levy runs a hard bargain but he's almost always willing to sell for the right price, especially to the big 'blank cheque' clubs who he can rob blind. Madrid generally do offer more money than anyone else. And whilst you can never know what's going on in a player's head, there aren't many who wouldn't jump at the chance to play for Madrid.

It's amazing the amount of coverage at Madrid, do they have a camera permanently looking at the bench?

Every game has a camera permanently looking at the bench. The TV deal for Real and Barca games (those two clubs alone) are sold by one TV station. Simple enough to get all that comes with it if you include it in your deal.

Difference with the PL is that Sky owns the TV deal. They just sell the rights to the game itself. Whether you want your own TV graphics or not is up to you but the footage you're getting is what they give you.

Would like us to sign him, if Fabío leaves. He's having another good game for Portugal.

Good game. Link-up play and dribbling were on point. One of Portugal's better players tonight. Has a superior skill set to Baines.

Going through his appearance stats for Madrid, he has only played about 20 games for them per season. How does that work out? Too much rotation?

Marcelo and not being fit the whole time Marcelo has been injured.

He does seem to get a lot of niggling, two or three weeks out, type injuries, often just at the moment when Madrid really need him to cover injuries/suspensions. He's a good player, sometimes very good, but I always wondered if not being first choice got to him.

Following on from my last post. Coentrao's injured again - back in 3 weeks they reckon.

In other news. He's just extended his contract from 2017 to 2018, for higher pay.

Something to do with looking after Jorge Mendes perhaps?
