Fabio Coentrao to Madrid

Barca have a good 13-15 players but, their squad depth hasn't been really tested through injuries and such. Maybe they won't need it next season but, they looked like they were getting tired towards the end - had they not wrapped up the league so early, it might have taken more of a toll on them.

United have shown the importance of having a deep squad in a long season. Barca are the exception here and not the template most teams want to build upon, that is relying on a few players and if they aren't available then you are in bit of a pickle.

True. He's not a very poor defender. That's ludicrous. As a left back who's job is to attack and defend he's one of the best in the world. He's no worse than the twins at defending. He's gotten way better at his positioning over the course of last two seasons. Pellegrini disciplined him a bit and Mourinho taught him the ropes as well.

Never been really impressed with Coentrao. He's hot headed, dives a lot and is more aggressive in his ways than Rafael was when he first started. Doesn't cope to well with the physical aspect. That's only based on the World Cup, a few internationals and some games in Europe. Most recently saw him over the two legs vs Braga. Braga got in his head good.

No it doesn't. They've had one proper left back for years. Arbeloa is the first to give them a full back cover.

Real conceded 21 goals in the league, 2 in the group stages in Europe, 3 against Barca, none against Tottenham and 1 against Lyon.

He's been way better than Evra this season, both in defense and attack, hands down.

i thought as the season went on Marcelo was arguably the best left back around

certainly had a better season than evra/cole

Coentreao is another one from the Jorge Mendes' list, but I think he is far better than Marcelo.

Real are said to be paying around 30m Euros - Coentrao's buy-out fee.

The medical and an agreement between Madrid and the player are the only two things missing now.

Di Maria and Coentrao linked very well when they were at Benfica lets see how it works out at Real.
 
I quite sure they are getting him in to play on the wings as well as fullback..

According to Marca, Madrid are paying 20m + Garay. Benfica may also be taking Drenthe on loan.

For Madrid, getting rid of a couple of players is just as good as buying one.

They also say that Coentrao, having turned down Chelsea (who offered the full 30m) effectively walked out on Benfica pre-season training by getting into an argument with the manager to make sure they accepted a deal.

Coentrao is a diver like Di Mario and has a bitcyness attitude of a losing Arsenal player.

Mourinho's doing what he did at Chelsea. 2 very good players at every position. Can someone do their first XI and second XI (+potential signing)?

Yes because Brazil have been so great. Adriano barely plays left back. Has 10 caps in 8 years.
Dani Alves is backup for Maicon. Says it all. Really? Wouldn't is say more that Andre Santos plays for Fenerbahce and not bigger team want him or that Adriano barely started a league match for Barcelona whilst Marcelo was probably the 3rd or 4th most important Real Madrid player last season behind Ronaldo, Özil and perhaps Alonso.

During the period where Andre Santos has been the starter Brazil have played 31 games.

Their record is 23 wins, 4 draws and 4 losses. Quite good.
However, the losses are against France and Argentina after the WC, Netherlands during the WC and Bolivia in the WC qualifiers. 2 goalless draws against Netherlands after the WC and Portugal during the WC. Other two were qualifiers.

Pretty much the last two years they've been shit. Great before the WC but once it hit they've gone shit. Only stats but shows that Andre Santos making the team over Marcelo isn't for some obvious reasons that everyone sees plainly.

2+2 = 5? The teacher gave me marks for effort last time I produced that. Zantetti and Cambiasso didn't go to last years world cup and Guttirez did, I have a tingling sensation that a new formular is coming up.

Probably one of Madrids best players last season. I saw the majority of their games and Marcello was together with Ronaldo and Ozil the player who had the biggest impact on their results. His only major mistake last season was when he slipped against Affelay (if I remeber correctly) in the CL semifinal.
