Think we had a chance. A combination of Moyes evaluation process (which is not over yet) and Guardiola making a firm offer finished the story.

Guardiola got him late in July.

A story emerged some months afterwards that Giggs actually put Moyes off the deal. 'He's not a United player'

I have a pity for everyone where dreaming of him. This guy will stay at Monaco at the end.

Perhaps we've identified something dodgy in his birth certificate and that is why we won't sign him, he looks more early thirties than early twenties.

Something's not right definitely. Expect few more twists and turns in this one.

Remember that story also.

Thought so then, think the same now. Whoever stopped it was out of his feckin mind to say it politely.

Mourinho trained with him and was trying to impose him ahead of Carvajal while at Real Madrid back in 2012–2013, so when Fabinho was 19 years old. He would know about that, wouldn't he?

I might have not been entirely serious.

The number of tweets and discussions for fabinho is fascinating. I mean, i so believe his importance for our club is being so overrated. We have won titles without proper midfielders, because we had great defenders and great attackers. I think if the defense plays as a unit, our defenders are quite capable of holding teams out. I mean lindelof, bailly, valencia, blind are quite good. Add to that darmian, tfm, axel are good squad options. I wouldn't mind however adding someone like ryan bertrand or kyle Walker in the team. However our attack is very poor. We tremendous potential in our strikers, martial and rashford but they are far from finsihed goods. Our priority should be to land a massive striker and then any midfielder will feel we are in for a title race. That alone will lure players our way. To be honest, fabinho can't make us win titles, as niether can he score, nor he is to pivotal for us to keep a clean sheet if our defenders don't gel well. I think we should by now zero in on a pure striker and get him based on how jose wants us to play, i.e a counter attacking or possession based.

Fabinho deal can wait. He is not a priority - i think

Proper big clubs dont play this kind of football in 2017. Only small clubs.

Last midfielder our fans thought was a must buy was Schneiderlin. And look at how that turned out to be. He was lacking in many aspects that he needed to become a success here. maybe this is a reason why Fabinho is linked with a move every year for the past 3 windows but don't really get a move. Maybe there's something lacking in him that scouts can see.

Very similar to the Aubameyang situation. It feels like there's something that as fans we are missing. Fans from every team would be ecstatic if their team signed him but it doesn't look like the managers /scouts are keen on him.

Fabinho had 10 goals and 4 assists last season as defensive midfielder. Some of them was penalties but still. So question is do you know enough about Fabinho to make the assumption Fabinho cannot win us titles when i think he is EXCATLY what we need in the team to win titles.

He will bring the perfect balance to the midfield and can step in at right back also. He also dreams about playing for United, sounds perfect to me to be honest.

Maybe they are system players. Most Southampton players fail to properly recapture their Southampton form once they leave them (Schneiderlin, lovren, shaw, lallana, clyne). Same for Dortmund (kagawa, sahin, to some extent mkhi, gotze). Maybe we think Fabinho could be that

So Fabrizio Romano says we've been in contact/offered and Fabinho is giving us the smile in interviews.

IT'S ON!! :drool::devil:

What's the go with this guy? On or off? Still only small, unreliable sources saying it's happening?

one of Di Marzio's group is saying United/City/PSG have made offers/approaches and Juve were looking into him. Fabinho then said in an interview:
'An invitation from Mourinho to go to United would be tempting'

Yes that would be my first guess.

I also believe that most of the players that performed well last season in the Monaco team won't perform to the same level elsewhere.

Monaco is very similar to the teams you mentioned, particularly BVB they have a system that works and they buy or have players who fit that system, but the moment you take them out of that system they get found out.

You need to take into account that Monaco was an all out attacking team last season, etc etc......So the numbers are indeed inflated. But doesn't mean he is not good at them.

and lacazette. if he was that good someone would have just signed him, someone whose job it is to look at players and not just watch 2 Lyon games a season and loads of YouTube videos !

Yeah exactly. Tbf he might well be bought by us or city or juve this summer but the point is there are lots of players who seem world class or close to that at one club but never get a move.

Yes, but all I want Fabinho to do is to cover that back 4 and allow Herrera and Pogba more chances to push up to support the attack, making runs into the box. I know Herrera seems to balloon shots to row-Z quite often recently, but he does have a good shot on him. Signing a more mobile DM means that Fabinho can also push up when he wants to, with Herrera dropping back to cover the space left behind as and when needed. This will also mean that both fullback can push up further to overlap and provide more width, since they know there will be an extra midfielder to protect against counter -attacks.

I'm pretty sure Lacazette's problem is he'd cost more than his value to sign because Lyon do not want to lose him. It's not so much the talent as it is value for money.
Perhaps that's an issue here with Fabinho, who knows

I'd love to sign someone like Fabinho or Matic to go alongside Pogba and Herrera in the starting 11. Then the midfield could rotate through those 3 with Fellaini Carrick and Perreria as backup.

I really want this guy, very good on the ball for a tall, strong DM, and a bargain at that price considering his age and the current market.

Yes but fans don't understand that, we have to sign every player that shows signs of being word class and forget about other important stuff that scouts and managers take into consideration.

Exactly the longer he stays at Lyon the more i start to believe that he isn't as good as fans think.

Arsenal, Liverpool, Manchester United and Real Madrid need a striker and they are all ready to cash in for Mbappe while Aubameyang and Lacazette are available for cheap.

I'm pretty sure Lacazette's problem is he'd cost more than his value to sign because Lyon do not want to lose him. It's not so much the talent as it is value for money.

Not when Huguin is bought for 90 million, and teams are bidding 90+ million for Lukaku and Mbappe. If he was that good then money wouldn't be an issue, maybe he is just not as good as fans think he is.

Do you seriously think that our squad is better than both of the above mentioned.

Nothing between us I'd say. All 3 teams can buy practically anyone on the market, It's just a matter of who spends their money better come the end of the transfer window.

Do you seriously think that our squad is better than both of the above mentioned.

The squad being better has little significance nowadays. And even if it where, we are in a transition period that very few clubs have experienced, and still winning trophies and investing in the best players available.

Transfers are about lining your ducks up, and I suspect other things need to happen before it's clear whether this guys a target or not. Transfers are also like dominoes, once one tips over, it normally causes a series of others. It's quiet everywhere at the moment.....

Ammmm, maybe because goals win games!!!

The whole object of the game, is to get the ball in the goal.
What? Are you deluded? You do realize there is more to football than scoring goals? You know, like passing, keeping possession, and perhaps more importantly: not conceding goals yourself. Fabinho's role would clearly help the latter.

That is quite possibly, the stupidest argument I've ever heard. By your logic, no one should ever sign defenders or goal keepers because they don't score many, if any goals.

Totally wrong.

Team that scores the most wins. Its that simple. Only have to look at Burnley vs Liverpool last season to prove this. All them stats count for fcuk all.

Nonsense. Jose's implementing the 0-0-11 next season. De Gea the furthest back forward.

Invincibles 2.0.
