Fabinho

Looks like a very good player, but it's hardly the end of the world if he doesn't end up here. I believe we need a DM of one kind or another to balance out the middle of the park, but it doesn't have to be him.

On another note, don't Woody's “briefings” normally result in the same thing being reported all over the place? This doesn't seem like a typical instance.

We will definitely sign at least one high quality midfielder this year. If it's not Fabinho then who else is available? Just hoping that we're not prioritizing Bakayoko or Dier.

Too bad N'zonzi is off to Juve

He had a €40m release clause would have fit our midfield very well imo.

Off to Matic it is, and we will likely allow ourselves to be fleeced by chelsea in that deal. or even worse try to get Dier and have to deal with Levy or the nightmare of all nightmares and we don't sign a DM and have to endure Fellaini and Carrick for another season.

Tbh I do trust Mourinho but I was also baffled why he didn't even attempt to sign Kante especially at the price and I also think we could of tempted him more than Chelsea, I just pray we dont sign Matic or Dier

Why do people keep banging on about this?

He did attempt to.

Also people make out like we missed out on Messi. It's fecking Kante. If you look around there's hundreds of players like him.

I think we'll sign a DM that hasn't been linked with us yet. The journalists don't have a clue.

Unless he's looking for a 10 and we're shifting to 4231. Not my preference but we were definately in for griezmann.

or maybe he likes Herrera in the DM role and we are looking at other options on the right hand side of midfield. I liked Herrera playing deeper(and if I remember correctly his stats were pretty good there) and I wouldn't mind seeing either TFM or Blind (in cup games) play there either .

Fabinho ? To Atletico ? One HUGE problem with that and that's their transfer ban, the one that led to us not getting Griezmann.

He could join them now and only play from January or he could join them in January.

The summer is so boring!

Day after day of people complaining basically.

The club are going to go for who the manager wants, end of story. Whinging about it will change nothing. If the signings don't work out Jose will lose his job and his reputation has already taken a few serious blows recently so I doubt he'll want that. I don't care what their name is or how much they cost as long as they want to be here, they help win us the games we should have won last year, the club can afford it and it's actually part of a solid plan for the future. Nothing more nothing less. One winger one striker one midfielder one defender. That's a whole spine of a team. Any more than that for the first 11 in one window is madness, almost back to square one with the group. They don't have to be star names or names even the fans know for it to work out well.

People shitting themselves over who the club SHOULDNT sign on a daily basis then is even worse still. Give it a chance, you might like it. Jose isn't a total idiot like our last two managers.

yeah, that just occurred to me. I read a twitter post linking him with athletico and didnt think about it.

I'm not too disappointed by this. I'd rather we sign a "third centreback" type of DM. Someone who'll give the fullbacks licence to get forward and, by extension, the wingers the freedom to cut into the box.

We have a lot of central attacking players getting shoehorned into wide positions at the moment. Forward runs from right- and leftback would help to fulfill their potential better than a DM like Fabinho (who seems to be at his best when he's the one making the forward runs).

Fabinho would limit Martial and Mkhitaryan to hugging the touchline. Makalele would enhance Valencia, Shaw and everyone ahead of them.

We should have seen this coming when Carrick signed a new contract.

Some of you girls need to realise that it's only the 15th June and calm down. I don't see many DM's moving clubs just yet.
We may not be after Fabinho, but to start slating Carrick because of a BBC article is pathetic.

Why don't we sell fellani and sign him too, or atleast on loan for a season and sign next season.

Id rather a young tall Brazilian near all rounder than a 40 year old Carrick, Uniteds scouts must be drunk. Fabinho, Periera, N'Zonzi, Hell even Biglia only then Matic, Dier. In that order and i guarantee you we'll get Dier going by our luck

Yes, sack all the drunk scouts and sign captain obvious.

Fabinho is perfect for our midfield. Id love to know why Jose thinks otherwise.

Hopefully it means he has someone else better lined up. I think that's more wishful thinking tough. It might just be as straightforward as the player doesn't want to come here and we are saving face.

Probably been mentioned already but if they're about to sell Bakayoko, that would – presumably – make it all the more difficult to land Fabinho. If they've any sort of ambition, it seems odd to give up both of them in the same window.

If that's the case, we'll struggle to make top 5 next season. Our midfield deficiencies were clear all season, Pogba and Herrera need protection and freedom to do their thing. Carrick doesn't have the legs to play more than 2 games a month nowadays.

Totally agree pal.

I believe it. Unfortunately, I don't think Mourinho will want to move on to playing a full time 433, hence no need for a holding midfielder, as we already have Herrera to play there.

Think he really admires Herrera, and we'll see a double pivot of he and Pogba for the majority of next season. Think we'll need some more numbers in the centre midfielder department, though.

At the moment, if Pogba and Herrera get injured/rested, we have Carrick and Fellaini to play as our double pivot, which isn't bad, but lacks a bit of dynamism. I think Jose will want to get a squad player, who is capable of filling in for Herrera, leaving us with:

First team:

Pogba - Attacking minded
Fellaini - Attack minded (Back up to Pogba)
Herrera - Defence minded
New Midfielder - Defence minded (Back up to Herrera)

Back Up:

Carrick - Defence minded
Pereira - Attack minded

Don't get your panties in a twist over one sceptical article. How could the BBC know we're not interested in Fabinho? How could anyone other than Jose or Ed have any freaking idea who United plan to purchase this summer?

Relax people and let Jose do his job.

This "We're not interested in him" usually comes out when we're about to lose a player we wanted to another team. Meh, I'd rather have Fellaini and Carrick as a tandem and bring Scholes out of retirement, failing that, I would rather pay twice the price and get half thee player in Dier.

Could be.

Begs the question, though: Will he also be bringing in a starting No 10, or will he rely on whatever we have (Mickey, Mata) for that?

If it's the former, and the Perisic interest is genuine, we might look at:

Herrera.....Pogba

Mickey/Mata..........Mata/Mickey..........Perisic

Morata

Doesn't fill me with great confidence, to be honest.

I'd much rather see us unleash Pogba to a greater extent in a 4-3-3 variation, with an added DM of sufficient quality.

DM

Herrera......Pogba

Mickey..........Morata..........Martial

That's all well and good. But what happens when Herrera gets injured or is too tired to play all 60 matches?
We are screwed and will once again, play like a 6th place team.
Remember, this season we are going for the title. Getting 6th won't be acceptable.

The idea of Fellaini as our creative midfield back-up to Pogba is ridiculous, we shouldn't be going into another season like that, when Pogba is out the team barely functions going forward as he's the only CM we have that is really great on the ball.

People are crazy. Only 2 reliable players in midfield we have are Pogba and Herrera. Fellaini, Carrick and Pereira are not starters. An injury to one of Pogba/Herrera and we lack massively in reliable allround alternatives. We also need to rotate and Fellaini and Carrick wont cut it, they are players used for special purposes (Carrick being old and Fellaini doing a specific job). Pereira is unproven and a total surprise how he will turn out under Mou in the PL. Now is not the time to gamble
