Fabinho

He is a real talent, an immense player you get a unique chance to sign him. Put Herrera as the 6 and let Verratti take control of the midfield, he is a midfield master

Great talent of course and he would definitely be a great addition- as a passer he definitely would take us to a higher level, but for the team that we have, or are trying to build, I think that Fabinho is a better fit.

Fabinho is a more direct player, and his long range passing would be far more useful at the number 6 than Herrera who is a little inaccurate with his long range passing and that will mean players dropping deeper to collect the ball and the opposition being more comfortable.

If we are playing 4-3-3 his pace, tackling and stamina, along with his passing will allow Pogba and Herrera to push up when we are in possession and the transition from defence to attack will be far quicker. I think a midfield three of Pogba, Fabinho and Herrera is really well balanced.

Barca need him. If course he will be expensive, but they have to close the gap. Can also see Bayern and Juve being interested, but Barca need to secure this one at all costs.

Bayern dont spend extortionate money, andthe layer dreaams of barcelona so it will be barca or bust

Striker and cb done (ish), please let this be the next done deal.

People saying Veratti instead of Fabinho... Are they not entirely different players? For me Veratti seems positionally more like a Herrera upgrade and Fabinho would be a Carrick replacement (in terms of area on the pitch)

We are not really in for this guy are we? Or are we?

We knew the defenders targeted
We know some of the attackers targeted
We know some of the midfielders but there is no even smoke here of Fabinho even being up for sale.

Its not impossible he is a target there is just no evidance on a rumour even. Just a few fake posts.

Thats not to say he is bad or we shouldn't go for him. But, It currently looks like Matic is a more realistic target at this time. God I do hope im wrong.

Juve normally have to sell big to buy big. Cant see them dropping £80m+ unless they sell Dybala or Bonucci, especially when us, City, Real, and Barca would probably be sniffing around if he's available.

City got no chance.

Di Marzio says he is our top target in midfield. No guarantees he is correct, of course, but he usually has more accurate info than most.
Dont get me wrong i hope you are right. But usually no smoke without fire.

But we are not even getting a burning smell

IMO, I don't think we have moved for him at all yet, but he's still on our list as it seems. I think we'll move for him once we finish Morata and Perisic deals.

There was none for Falcao or Martial when they came over from Monaco. I don't think there was even a rumor of either and then next thing you knew they were joining us.

Or it's us dithering in signing a player yet again and not making our move on a player until someone else shows interest or bids as well like Bale, Kroos etc.

Or like Lindelof and Morata or Perisic? Not trying be a smart arse and I do agree we have in the past had a tendency to dither in terms of negotiations and discussions but for all we know these deals could all be well and truly agreed and its just both clubs are keeping their mouth's shut. I tend to not believe anything unless I see a statement fro the club or the player is being paraded around OT with a scarf above his head.

This guy would be our most important signing this summer

A bit worried that he's not as heavily rumored as Morata and Perisic, but hopefully we can still get him

No idea whether this is a nonsense source (looks terrible) but loads of people on my Twitter feed keep sharing it with excitement. I'll share it here but not in the tweets section

ticks all the boxes fits the profile of what were looking for very well good age and has played champions league football not to mention having just wont the league in france aswell......Pogba,Bailey,Lindelof,Fabinho,Morata all at an excellent age and are quality footballers i like our transfer strategy these days! long may it continue.

Not often you can tell if a source is reliable or not purely from the tweet, in this case you can.

With 100k followers its not impossible that a Brazilian source would be first with the news.

Only watched 2 games where he played alongside Bakyoko in a midfield 2 and he looked the better player in those games. I would appreciate an assessment of him by any of our resident Ligue 1 fans as I haven't watched him a lot.

According to the papers, the most reliable news so far is that we are in for 5 players this summer. At first, this list didn't seem to make any sense. But then, I started tinkering and realized that this would be the perfect list for Mourinho's system.

I feel, JM is going for this 433 formation –

Belotti
Perisic_________Morata

Pogba_______________Herrera
Fabinho

Shaw____Lindelof____Bailly____Valencia

DDG

It all makes sense because, we went in for Morata only after Griezmann pledged his loyalty to Atletico Madrid. Replace Morata with Griezmann in the above formation and we'll have the most formidable 433 lineup in the Europe.

We were never interested in dealing with Real Madrid, due to the bitterness involving DDG. But as a last minute gasp, we are being forced to go for Morata. And, Morata isn't a bad second-choice either. Mourinho developed the player at RM and he mostly deployed him as a dynamic attacker drifting in and around Ronaldo. So, he is fluid enough to holdup the play as well as make smart runs. Who knows, with enough desire, he might actually become better than Griezmann.

In Pogba and Herrera, we have the best shuttling-midfielders in the world. And, 433 is the only system which seems to bring the best out of Pogba. Given the age of Michael Carrick, we need a new holding-midfielder and after his impressive performances this season at Monaco, Fabinho fell into the radar. Fabinho is the surprise signing Mourinho spoke during the season as he wasn't on the radar until the last stages of UCL. In my opinion, Fabinho has a great game-awareness and is an impressive tackler. He seems like the best 'water carrier' at the moment.

We've created good number of chances last-season from the midfield. But, our main problem was that there wasn't a good bridge between midfield and attack. Our right flank was okay, partly due to the brilliance of Antonio Valencia. But, our left flank was very poor. We didn't have a solid full back on the left side and there was no one who could tirelessly convert defense into attack. We deployed Young, Martial, Lingard, Rashford, Mkhitaryan and Rooney on our left wing. But, they were either too absorbed defending or too tired to keep going at the defenders and completing the take-ons. That's why, we are going in for Perisic. Even though he has only 2 or 3 seasons left at his peak, he is lightning quick, tirelessly successful in take-ons and unashamed to trackback. I think he's been our No. 1 priority for the summer since Christmas.

We need a Target-man. Someone tall, strong, physical, fast with great anticipation and finishing. Trust me people, I've followed all the top scorers across the top 5 leagues in Europe. There's no one better than Belotti. He's a star in the making and he's a box-office finisher. He's got the physical presence of Ibrahimovic and the movement and pace of Chicharito. We'll be lucky to get him. People who keep wondering why we are buying two strikers when we already have Martial and Rashford, don't understand the importance of a Target-man, especially in Premier League.

And, Lindelof is an obvious choice. He is the best young CB around and Smalling has lost his hunger/drive in the game. We need to move on from him.

In Mata and Mkhitaryan we have decent creative midfielders and it'd help us to shift to 4231 in some tactical matches requiring to break deadlocks.

Romero, Fellaini, Blind, Rojo, Darmian, Carrick, Young are all good squad players and we definitely need them for rotation.

Rashford, Jones, Martial and Lingard are young and can improve with hard work. If they do so, they'll easily break into the first team. Else, they'll become backups and they are worthy enough backups.

Smalling and Rooney seem excess to the squad and I'd love to see them leave, making Herrera our new captain and DDG our new VC.

If all this happens, next season would be a dream at the Theatre of Dreams.

Ironic that the only English player in your lineup is the one that Mourinho seems to like the least.

JM loves Shaw. He's a great admirer of the young FB. His outspoken nature is his way of pushing the players, kind of like the 'Whiplash'. Shaw needs to mature and improve his tactical game. He is good technically and also has the pace to be the best left back. I have a feeling we'll not lose him. For the time being, until Shaw peaks, we'll keep rotating Darmian and Blind.

Mourinho has said 3 or 4 new arrivals. Woodward has briefed 3 or 4 new arrivals. So your first sentence is misleading to say the least, unless you consider our manager and our executive vice-chairman to be unreliable sources on such issues as how many incoming transfers to expect.

Hmm things could have changed since Zlatan's injury, Griezmann staying etc. Won't be surprised if we end up with 5 or even 6 signings, especially if we offload Rooney and others.

Really? He said he has some qualities he likes but he doesn't love him. He came out and criticised him to the press on a few occasions, most notably when he told them that he had to tell him when to run forward. You're entitled to your opinion but I don't see any evidence that he loves Shaw.

Woodward briefed the press moments after the Atletico Madrid transfer ban appeal failed, once they knew that Griezmann wasn't coming. Included in that briefing was the bit about 3 or 4 new arrivals; which they have restated again and again at various points this year.
