Fabinho

Wouldn't surprise me if he's still at Monaco next season, amazingly it doesn't seem like anyone is really in for him

Or it's us dithering in signing a player yet again and not making our move on a player until someone else shows interest or bids as well like Bale, Kroos etc.

I would like to see him playing for us. Can play defensive midfield, which we're lacking in options at the moment. Can play right back, which we're also lacking in options, although it isn't his best position. Luckily Valencia is good enough to not need to be replaced at the moment, so Fabinho would only need to play there as back up if Shaw is again injured and Darmian is already playing left back and Blind playing CD. But this versatility is very useful if we're challenging for the league. So I think he'll be an excellent buy tactically and strategically. He'll give us much needed consistency in our squad strength over a season or a match.

Jose might prefers Nainggolan who's more of a fighter and more aggressive. It has become a bit quiet regarding Fabinho, he might be checking his options or told clubs he's staying

nah naingollan is just after a new contract.

We have been discussing for ages about finding a replacement for Carrick. It was thought impossible. Then along comes Fabinho who is incredibly similar, at least defensively.

Then there in Naingolan who is more your Vidal type.

Depends what Mou is looking for. But if we going to spend big then midfield is one of the places I would look to do it. Remember the days of Keane and Butt with Scholes on the bench. That is the kind of depth I would like.

Who would be the better signing, Fabinho or Nainggolan?

Before the Griezmann deal collapsed I would have preferred Fabinho but now I think Nainggolan would be a far better addition. The team desperately lacks goals and now needs more attacking quality in midfield.

I think the Griezmann u-turn will have huge implications for the summer targets. It's unlikely they will be able to get a similar player of the required quality so it could mean a complete change of plan.

I can see how no Griezmann makes a 4-3-3 and Nainggolan more viable. Takes nothing away from Fabinho being the most blindingly obvious target for us out there.

I kind of disagree with that. In order to add goals we need to upgrade our front three and give more freedom to Pogba, Fabinho is in my opinion the answer for the latter, Nainggolan could be an updgrade on Herrera though.
As an aside, I wouldn't mind Bertrand Traoré as our right winger.

Whether it's the right decision or not, Pogba is being groomed to play a deeper role with less attacking freedom. If Griezmann had been signed Pogba most likely would have mainly played in the 2 of a 4-2-3-1. Now, I think it's more likely to be a 4-3-3 with Pogba being the second most offensive of the midfield 3.

I completely agree with that approach. The more advanced role Pogba has played at United the less impressed I've been with him.

Unless there is a huge upgrade in quality of the front 3 (and current indications are the quality is likely to go down), there just aren't enough goals in a Fabinho, Herrera, Pogba midfield 3.

Has there been any solid credible sources linking us with this guy?
Only really the supposed ITK from Monaco, but the press have been quiet on every position apart from the strikers. I guess once that is tied up we will see movement on other deals.

I really like Fabinho and quite like the balance in a Fabinho, Herrera, Pogba midfield but you need a superstar front 3. Put MSN or BBC ahead of that and you have an amazing team. Put Miki, Martial and a new 9 ahead of that and you will struggle for goals.

We are not going to see eye to eye simply because it's obvious that our midfield input is fine, it could be better but it's fine particularly when you take into account the number of times Pogba hit the posts. Our goalscoring problems come from the attackers not the midfielders, so in my opinion we should improve the balance of our midfield with someone like Fabinho and take the logical decision to improve our goalscoring record by upgrading our attackers.

I don't disagree with you but you have to be realistic. A few months ago, the plan would have been Ibra and Griezmann leading the line. Now, it's unlikely either will be at the club next season. Upgrading the front 3 with 2 or 3 players will cost north of £200m in this market.

I can't see that happening this summer and even if the club are willing to spend the money, finding the right quality will be really difficult when they have wasted so much time on Griezmann and now have to change tack.

Although there isn't much talk on this front, I have a strange feeling that we'll sign him out of nowhere. And I really hope so because he would be my muppet signing this summer, think he would completely transform our game - He would make our MF more solid and give Pogba more freedom to roam.
Signing world class holding/dmf should be our priority this summer.

It's all gone a bit quiet here, but I'm guessing we'll concentrate on Perisic and him once we have the Morata and Lindelof signings done next week.

Juve might get N'Zonzi, which would surely leave us open to get Fabinho.
Well that is unless City are interested in Fabinho. One day they are. One day they aren't

I think Fabinho would fit perfectly what we need. A busy midfield destroyer with a good range of passing. Other options whether plausible or not would be:
- Dier
- Gueye
- Khedira
- Gabi

He's not on international duty and has an agreement with Monaco that he can leave this summer, so it is a bit surprising that nothing has happened yet.

Radja might or might not be using United to try and get new contract from Roma, but if there is a slight chance of him coming to OT, between him and Fabinho, which one would improve the team?

For me, even though the chance is slim but having Radja would increase the steel-iness and aggression of the midfield considerably I think, not to mention great engine. United have been craving for such player since Vidal "saga" ( :(:nervous:) plus it would add different dimension to United's midfield squad - Pogba, Herrera, Carrick, Fellaini, Pereira.

If it is all up to me though, I would get both. :D

This is the signing I want us to complete asap. Really think he'd bring some quality to our midfield & allow Pogba to flourish. Also wouldn't be a ridiculous fee.

Have we actually been linked with him or is this just a "would like to sign" thread? I know City have been linked.

I can see us signing Matic although I hope not.

I would prefer Matić, actually, a more seasoned footballer. Fabinho is more adequate to watch Pogba's back, though.

There was a so-called Monaco ITK who linked him with us. Other than that I don't think there's been any news.

I'd rather have Fabinho. Naingoolan is 29, and would be a stop-gap. He's also a bit more B2B, where has Fabinho can play as an anchorman with great defensive nous, passing ability and physicality.

They are different agreed, and IMO would be great paired rather than one for the other. Fabinho would be our #6 while Nainggolan #8.

If the rumours of Bakayoko to Chelsea are true, then I'd say this is dead in the water. I can't see Monaco selling two starting midfielders in one summer.

They have bought Teilemans and I think they are getting another midfielder too. They already have Moutinho. So we can't rule it out.

This is a signing that would excite me the most. Mouriniho will know all about him having given him his debut for Real Madrid.

His performances last season means he must surely be on his radar.
