Fabinho

Fabinho could have just as tricky first season as Darmian. Go back a year ago and everyone was raving about him and so pleased we signed him, and now so quick to bin him off for a new toy.

Fabinho's one of them signed in an afternoon jobs. I imagine we'll sort this once we've got Pogba wrapped up.

@JPRouve , you are a fan of Monaco, give us some muppetjuice with some insight on the player

I know nothing about him, just the fact that he has a cool name and is Brazilian, therefore I conclude we must get him.

I already commented on him. He is a defensively strong fullback, he isn't bad on the ball but fairly inconsistent. Going forward, he is limited by the fact that he has a good technique for a defender but still pretty average, in defense he is clean, he defends like an italian defenders, he is all about timing, anticipation, positioning and marking. He doesn't go through the attacker.

PS: He isn't the best crosser.

I agree with that.

There was a hype surrounding him before he went to Monaco as well. He has been in the spotlight longer than a year.

Darmian could probably improve to be a good RB, but he will never be a FB like Fabinho probably can be (altough I dont believe Fabinho is a typical Brazilian wingback judging from what posters has written earlier). Also Fabinho is pretty apt as a DM and play as DM quite often for Monaco, and we lack defensive options in midfield.

Also it is not just for us Darmian has been underwhelming. He lost his place in the Italian national team to Di Sciglio, who originaly was rated lower than him. I was way more impressed by Di Sciglio during the Euros, both defensively and attacking, but especially attacking where Darmian has his biggest flaw. Also not sure if Darmian can cut it mentally, he looks like a scared boy every time he plays.

I do not want Darmian to go!!

I believe in the lad and hope he's given the chance to work under Jose.

Is this guy all that good? Know nothing about him. Knew little about Darmian but most on here were saying it's a bargain and he's a class player, similar to Herrera.

I'd prefer to keep Darmian over Valencia. Darmian is a good defender but didn't exactly show much in attack last season. Fabinho, by the description on here, is also more of a defender first. Mourinho does like one defensive fullback and one with more license to attack. Will be fun watching Shaw this season is my conclusion hehe

Darmian has just shaved his sideburns and got a suave new hairdo

I think he's going to perform tons better based on that alone.

Can we not just keep darmian too is Fabinho not a DM aswell maybe mourinho sees him in that position.

I think he is an "FM legend" First heard about him last year when we were looking a right back and seemed everyone wanted him. Based on his age it reminds me of Embolo where he is this sensation on a video game therefore he could be amazing in real life. I could be wrong but thats the feeling im getting. If he really is the deal though obviously this is a no brainer purchase

Darmian and Fabinho have pretty much been formed by the same type of defensive coaches, Ranieri and Jardim. They are both used to play in systems where the defense is a perfectly oiled machinery where each player plays a very determined role while LVG's defense was all about individualities. Darmian should improve with Mourinho system and Fabinho could thrive in it.

The right-back Fabinho is close to leave Monaco, club defending since 2013. The destination is Manchester United , who have a deficiency in the position and seeks reinforcements on the market after the hiring of coach Jose Mourinho. The English club is negotiating the purchase of the player.

In the 2015/16 season, United had the side the Italian Matteo Darmian, signed from Torino, but he did not like the position. Fabinho, 22, has the admiration of Mourinho, who worked with him at Real Madrid and promoted to the main cast in 2013, shortly before he was loaned to Monaco.

The side that played in the Copa América Centenario for the national team and also acts as the steering wheel, was not released by Monaco to compete in the Olympics and so was even summoned by coach Rogerio Micale for the tournament. To his place, he was called William, International.
If the trade goes ahead, two Brazilian clubs would be entitled to a percentage to be trainers Fabinho: Fluminense and Paulinia.

EDIT: Mou gave him his debut.

Like, all of it? Then he must stay.

People who want Fabinho are deluded

I think the biggest issue with Darmian as someone once said (maybe it was @devilish?) is that he was virtually used as a wing-back all the time at Torino, which meant offensively and defensively he was only ever up against one player - which (almost always) was the opposing wing-back. Makes things a hell of a lot easier than constantly going against doubled up tricky wingers with attacking fullbacks overlapping. Being part of a back five also meant less aerial responsibility for him against crosses; that's definitely more for the three CBs.

Factor all of this in, in conjunction with his surprisingly mediocre physicality - he's fairly weak, not that quick, and his stamina levels were quite poor: he would often find himself subbed or look completely gassed in matches, makes me wonder just how much he really could improve. Mourinho at the helm or not.

Yes I agree. Darmo is a decent footballer really but better as a wing back. Same true of Valencia really but the latter is tougher and has more stamina. For that reason I think Mourinho will prefer him.

All I know about him is that he's tall. I like tall full backs.

No. He doesn't want him. Yes it was Pre-season but why would he give Valencia the captaincy twice if he didn't want him?

It's a common practice to just go with seniority when handing out the armband, it doesn't indicate anything.

Don't see the point of signing another RB really. And I don't think he is much of an upgrade (if any) of what we've at our disposal. From what I've seen, he's a poor man's Maicon.
I'd rather see TFM get some game time than spend money on another RB which isn't a priority position.

Oh my god, someone else who likes to give a player more than one chance to impress. I dont feel so alone now

It's ridiculous to bin a player after one season in a new league.

Imagine how many players in the past teams could have dumped after one season but didn't, stuck with them and it paid off.

I want us to sign him but I also want us to keep both Darmian and Valencia. Both of them are versatile enough to be valuable members of the squad and one could be considered a wing-back, if we were ever to utilize the relevant formation.
I watched Monaco quite a bit last season and I was impressed with him, I think he has enough potential and he's even younger than Pogba. Compared to Darmian, his physical qualities are more suited to the PL.
Could see him develop quite a bit hopefully if he were to join us.

I don't know a lot about him - but I never want to see Valencia at rb again.

Got to be an easy deal to do with the Mendes links to both Jose and Monaco

He'd be a definite upgrade on Darmian, who really is not that good, for your defence.
