Fabinho

I don't think Mourinho will play with two ultra attacking FB's. But if he did I would like to see Varela given a chance at RB
Shaw is even better defender than going forward. If he recovers from the injury he's pace to play up and down the flank... that right hand side sucks big time though, Darmian is utter shit, Valencia is solid at best with his 6/10 performances and occasional positional brain fart and Varela is being sold and is great going forward but not tested enough at senior level to be seen as a reliable defender, too short and week for Mourinho apparently. TFM still didn't convince me he could be a starter, he needs to work on his positioning, he's much better centrally but I wouldn't mind if he got games ahead of the three players mentioned... We can give it a go first half of the season and then we might go and invest into a proper quality rightback. I'd like Cancelo from Valencia but Fabinho doesn't look bad even though he's not my fav type of a fullback

RB now does seem a potential weak link given the strength in other areas. I'm sure Jose will rectify it. Relying on Darmian to 'click' seems a big risk after his first year.

The youtube vid on the previous page makes him look a bit shit..

Darmian actually looked really good when he first started, but succumbed quickly to LvG's philosophy, and hasn't been the same since. However, if anyone can fix him, it'll be Jose.

Unless a decent offer comes in for Darmian or Valencia, I doubt we'll seriously move for Fabinho.

The problem I have with Darmian is that he gave up at times last season. Seemed like whenever he got a little injury he'd quickly want to go off. Sort of like what Di Maria did.

Mentally he was lacking too. The fact that people couldn't wait for Valencia to come back says it all. This isn't about managers. Valencia outperformed him under the same manager.

If we can Fabinho for £20m then it would be great.

It wouldn't surprise me if Darmian proved to be fixable.

Coming into the Premier League is difficult at any time, not just when you have LVG trying to make everyone into interchangeable parts by changing the team structure every other match.

Mourinho might be able to inject some confidence in him and bring out his best qualities through clear instructions and a more settled team structure.

That said, there needs to be competition for places at United, and if Rojo is leaving then one more fullback is needed. Blind played there against Wigan, but I have a feeling that Mourinho wants more pace in his fullbacks for the system he likes to play. I think he'll view Blind as more of a utility player than true competition for the starting fullback spots

Reckon I will camp out in this thread now that Poggers seems to be in the bag :drool:

Darmian can probably be sold for about £8-10m to some Italian team.

Is Fabinho equipped to play DM to the level required for us.

With the addition of Matuidi as well we would have a complete team imo.

De Gea,
Valencia, Smalling, Bailly, Shaw
Fabinho,
Pogba, Matuidi
Mkhi, Zlatan, Martial

Romero,
TFM, Jones, Blind, CBJ
Schnedirlin,
Herrera, Rooney
Lingard, Rashford, Depay

Extra: Mata, Tuanzabe, Periera, Januzaj, Carrick, Johnstone

Out: Darmian, Young, Fellaini, Rojo, Schweinsteiger.

Quadruple winners 15/16:drool::drool::drool:

Fabinho wouldn't be effective in that position.

And next season is 16/17 btw. ;)

I dont know his level as a DM, but he played 18 matches as a DM last season and 29 as RB, so probably pretty good as it.

@Downcast @JPRouve ?

He is a RB but he can be a specialist in the way Mourinho means it because you can give him a tactical mission in midfield, like marking Ozil closely.

I reckon we'll sign him. Seems to fit the rumours of Mourinho bringing in another 2 "non-glamorous" players after Pogba signed. He's been linked for a while as well, which (judging by the track record of this summer) seems to be accurate.

@SwansonsTache

I will do some research because I don't follow Monaco.

@BBRBB any views?
I think I already mentioned earlier that I'm not completely sold with Fabinho at RB but I have often been impressed by him in midfield.

He's still very young though so has a lot of time to improve.

I'm assuming the other player would be Matuidi then? Squad shaping up very nicely and some good depth too.

With all the talk of Pogba this one has flew under the radar a little, certainly for me anyway, how likely would be rate this one?

I would still maybe give Darmian another shot at it here. But not fussed about this either way

Since Pogba is as good as wrapped up let's bring in this fecker. We've been crying out for a solid RB season in season out since Gary Nev!

For those interested.

Needs more Tony V.

Reason I didn't include Valencia is age.

He'll be moving on in the next year or two.

(plus Valencia is too predictable, stand up player, sprint past, drill it as hard as he can).

Also an absolute monster as shown.

Going off your stats he's by far the best right back there.

I'd rather not sign this guy. We have plenty of right backs and people who can play there. I wouldn't say it's a pressing weakness.

I actually think if we were to go after a right back that Cedric Soares would be a not bad shout.

Valencia is 30 don't forget, 31 before the season begins, he does need replacing in the next 12 months.

Also if not this year would you say the fourth signing should be the last this year? or should there be a fifth.

Cedric would be a poor signing.

Depends what we do with squad. We are over stocked at the moment.

I wouldn't mind a real hard number #6 coming into the team. I'd of loved Kante.

Also it's based from last season, all those guys played more than double the minutes Tony played

Be surprising if Valencia couldn't easily play til 36 judging by his athleticism. For what it's worth I think Mourinho will love his work rate, power, pace and defensive strength in the air. These are the attributes Mourinho looks for first in a player, then technique, ball skill etc after. I think big Tony V will start for us next season.

This is why football doesn't work from a purely analytical perspective. You can give me as many breakdowns as you want but the idea that Valencia, a failed winger who is now scared of going forward and who, whilst strong and quick, has absolutely no positional sense defensively was better than Dani Alves last year is a joke.

He may beat him 14.75 v 8.45 on attack score (however this is rated) but Valencia just doesn't disrupt team's defences going forward in the same way Alves can. Anyone watching the last 4 seasons can see this. When he gets the ball in space he freezes and has been one of the reasons we have struggled to break down teams.

Agree. Stat without context is misleading. A player who play for a team struggle for chance creating and goal scoring, who also missed a large chunk of season due to injury, has better attacking than Dani Alves in a team who score load of goal and play in opponent half for majority of game...

No wonder Messi was statically at certain time stated as the player who got dispossessed the most in La Liga.

Honestly can't stand it when people bring up "statistics" when comparing players.

Anyone who says Valencia is a better RB than Dani Alves, arguably the best RB of the past 5 years clearly has no idea about football. What happened to actually watching the matches and forming your own opinion?

Moving on topic... Fabinho looks like he's gonna be one of the best RBs in the future. A much better player than Darmian who for me, is way too defensive. We need a pacey attacking full back. Some people might call me mad but I honestly think Yedlin would be a good shout. He's impressed me every time I watch him and is one of the brightest young RBs in the game for me.
