Monaco made it clear he wasn't for sale

We were linked with him so heavily last season and he expressed that he would like to play for us if he had a chance to move to EPL. Monaco changed their minds last minutes and keep him eventually at end of the window.

They are different players, no? One is a right back come defensive midfielder, the other is a number 8 yeah?

Fred is a defensive no.8, regularly fills in as a no.6 in various phases of the game. He is especially good at covering for fullbacks.

PL is more physical than any league in the world. So really we can pick and choose our battles for all incoming signings from overseas to fit whatever narrative. Aka Fred excellent, Fabinho not to excellent, etc etc.

...we take this L and move on - Fabinho is a class player.

We would have signed him if we wanted him. He has been linked to many many sides in the past but no one has moved for him despite the relatively small fee required to get him.

Good signing.

Liverpool doing the right things. Midfield of Fabinho-Keita-Oxlade is a lot better than the CL starting of Henderson-Wijnaldum-Milner.

A CB to replace Lovren, a goalkeeper and a forward for depth and they'll be knocking on the PL challenge door.

Hey JP, I've always rated Lemar higher. Thoughts?

I don't what to say, they are different players, so directly comparing them is difficult. They have been both crucial for Monaco.

If Liverpool sign Fabinho and Fekir along with Keita, anything less than a title challenge next season should be judged harshly for Klopp.
If they get a decent keeper and a Loren replacement, I would say their first team is better than ours.

He wasn’t made available in the past from Monaco despite the numerous interest in him.

£40m isn’t a small fee by any means...That’s 1/2 of Liverpool’s spending maybe and 1/3 - 1/4 of United’s budget (having averaged £150m the last 2 summers)...

Cheers, I've felt Lemar would be the better signing for us but now with Fred...

We wouldn't have, the problem is that Monaco didn't had adequate replacements and refused to sell him which he admitted upseted him.

every transfer in which we are properly involved takes ages to finalise. It’s frustrating.
Oh my god. It seems to way that way cause you track United's transfer and see the news about another club signing a player while maybe, oftenly, it has dragged out only you didn't know that cause you're not involved like you are with United. Not to mention it's early in the transfer window.

That’s 200M (70 Alison, 60 Fabinho and 70 Fekir). Add in the close to 60M they’re paying for Keita and I’d say they haven’t really got that much money.

Why not? They made £145m from the PL this season and £78m from the CL. Not to mention their sponsors.

The most likely owe nothing for Keita since the Coutinho money covers him and VDD.

Now's the time to invest if their owners are serious about the club. @Damien s above lineup is a quality team, tbf..

Have to say if they manage to get all of Keita, Fabinho, Fekir and Allison then that looks like an excellent transfer window on paper. (Obviously might be different in reality).
They could still take a punt on another young attacker as back up and buy smart in CB as well with someone like Evans.

The annual cryfest every time our rivals sign a player is tiresome.

They'll have spent City, United, Chelsea money if they sign Fekir and Fabinho to go along with what they've got. Klopp should be treated like the rest. Chances are he won't.

Bring it on. Big spending was the beginning of the end for him at Dortmund.

People saying that the players that the players Man utd don't sign go to Liverpool and become unbelievable talented players. No, it's the style of play that extenuating certain qualities of Salah (he wasn't anywhere near as good in Roma), Mane, Firmino etc.

If Rashford, Martial, Alexis and Lingard were playing under Klopp's system-I am sure they would be doing better than the trio Liverpool have now.

I do question how good he is really. He has been linked more heavily with Atletico this year and seems to want a move every year.

They’re making quality signings to balance out the imbalances in their lineup.

And look to be spending closer to the top spenders in the EPL. If that doesn’t concern you then you can keep turning a blind eye I guess.

He has been on the market for the same rate for over 12 months now.. Its not one that has gone under the radar.

They'd be playing with no defence and still finish 4th

Liverpool wouldn't be able to spend that much if they hadn't sold Coutinho. Coutinho gave them 150 Million and they got money from. CL final

Signings? Firstly, they haven't signed a 'player' yet, never mind 'players'.

So that is a cracking signing for pool. Think coutinho sale has done wonders for them. They have spent a lot of money since last summer and are expected to do so with expected signings of fekir, a gk, a centre half and a back up centre forward .

So that is in euros
Keita -60 million
VVD -86 million
Salah- 43 million
Chamberlain - 40 million
Fabinho - 60 million (50+10 reported by the person who broke the deal from france football)

That is a total of 289 million euros

Expected to sign-
Fekir -60-70 million euros
Allison - 80 million euro buyout
New cb - 50 million
New backup CF - 20-30 million

That is almost 400-500 million in two summers from liverpool. Jurgen was saying something about us signing players etc . Even if you deduct the coutinho fee that is an incredible spend.

Fabinho has been very good for Monaco but we are not talking about Xabi Alonso, he isn't going to turn Liverpool into a juggernaut just because he is on the team sheet. If he plays like he has done with Monaco, they are going to be a pain in the ass but nothing says that Salah or the other players will be at the same level and with their inconsistency it can still get ugly.

Yeah over the last decade United haven't spent much more than Liverpool. But United need to keep up with these types of signings. Fred is good, but let's hope he can adapt to European football quickly. Fabinho won't have that problem.

Fabinho will be a good player for them i think. They need all the protection from midfield they can get if they want to sustain their attacking play.

I don’t think he is what we needed. Would’ve been a decent player to cover for Matic, and i believe he would be able to make RB his own, but that’s just me guessing.
