F1 Season 2025

Liam Lawson to race for RB, it has been announced.
Best choice. Yuki wouldn't have survived a half a season with max. He would have been mentally destroyed. Too weak mentally and too emotional for a F1 driver. Plus he's as average as they come.

Lawson showed some potential but I don't think he will be in the car in 2026.

Still think RedBull made a huge mistake in not getting Sainz. Whether he could beat max over a season is debatable (I doubt it), he would kept max honest.

Also good move by Mercedes to bring bottas back as reserve driver. If antonelli needs to be taken out of the firing line, they have a capable backup. Also one who understands what a fast potential championship winning Mercedes is like.

Max beat Sainz comfortably in his debut F1 season so.. unlikely.

Be interesting to see how he does. If it’s competitive which I would expect it is, it’s definitely a weaker pair than both Ferrari and McLaren. But suppose with Lawson there’s hope for RB. He’s a better open I’d say than Tsunoda simply as I don’t think Tsunoda has the head to be Max’ second driver. And lord knows Perez was done.

Will be interesting. Each of the top 4 teams have a driver with a question mark (although perhaps not McLaren). Piastri clearly proven but he seems to go hot and cold. Have to wonder if Hamilton is past it. Lawson and Antonelli unknowns.

Could be some interesting sub plots next year.

It’s different now. Sainz has progressed leaps and bounds I think from then. Max was always fast, so naturally had less room to get even better.

But it’s a safe bet. I’m not sure right now there’s any driver who would compete with Max over a season in the same car.

Sure he's more experienced and I actually think he's a good driver but I think he's a level or two below Max. If Leclerc can beat him over a season then so will Max IMHO. I do agree with @dinostar77 that Sainz would have been a good option for Red Bull though. Certainly more of a sure thing than Lawson though probably less exciting because Lawson has potential.

I'm really looking forward to next season. So many subplots across almost the entire grid.

Does Hamilton still have it and was it the uncompetitive Mercedes that held him back?

How good is Alex Albon actually? Can he beat Sainz over a season?

Has totto made a mistake with antonelli? Or is the kid really that special?

Will Adrian Newey have any input into 2025 AM? Or will he just put all of his efforts into the 2026 car with the new regs?

Can Lance Stroll, potentially create a new a new record and spin off or crash into a wall or someone at every race?

Hadjar gets the other seat alongside Yuki.

Gotta love all these young drivers getting a chance in F1. Breath of fresh air.

Any good articles about these young drivers?

It’s crazy how many new drivers there are this year. And Hamilton and Alonso surely on the horizon of exiting too in the next couple years. Could have a really young grid in a couple years.

Lots of driver moves.

Max will be the one to beat, I see both Ferrari's and Mclaren's, along with Russell fighting hard, hopefully Lewis will get his mojo back.
Can Sainz get the William's onto the podium, I doubt it. but he will to do better than 2024 when William's got no points.
Will Antonelli and Lawson get podiums yes of course, will they get wins, that I think will be very difficult..

Surprised Lawson is anywhere near F1. Being unproven and a bit shit doesn't seem to equal "unproven and a bit shit", it's apparently means "loads of potential".

Soundly beaten by an average Tsunoda last season, but because he's two years younger and worse, he gets a championship car? Really odd. Whatever floats the red bull boat I suppose.

Ferrari and McLaren have the driver advantage if one needs to help the other but Red Bull have the Max factor. Merc will be interesting to follow this season as George is still very immature but now needs to step up into the leadership role.

Soundly beaten is stretching it a but I think. Tsunoda has a lot more experience in that car and just about managed to out qualify Lawson who was put in mid season but in the races Lawson did pretty well. For me I prefer Lawson's personality and elbows out driving style but it was probably a coin toss for Red Bull when it comes to pace and potential. I think Tsunoda being tied to Honda probably worked against him here.

Yeah I agree, Max will be on his own for most of the time, after thinking about it not sure that Lawson will be good enough to help Max out , yeah he will get points, but he is not going to be a wing man for Max, but as you say the Max Factor will come in to it.
McLean have 2 drivers that help each other out, I think Leclerc and Hamilton will do that same

Honda Racing Global cut out Christian Horner.

Honda is not amused that they didn't give Yuki Perez's seat after 4 years at AlphaTauri/VCARB.

Also Daniel Ricciardo has deleted more than 320 Photo's with Horner on/in it from his IG the last few days!

Being speculative, that could also mean something else going in terms of news about Horner. I don't get Ricciardo if it's about the Lawson decision.

Might have been something to the rumors that he would replace Checo after the summer break. Add in the sloppy way his last race was handled, and he might feel the rug was pulled out from under him once too often.

Yuki is being binned by RedBull after 2025 season is over. Horner said last week you can't have a driver in the junior team for 5 seasons who can't make the jump to the senior team.

Yuki will end up being reserve driver for AM in 2026 I would guess.

Why did Red Bull choose Lawson?

Yet another factor also played a role in the decision. Namely, Tsunoda's emotional outbursts. "Those have improved, but still play a role. Then he just loses control," Marko revealed to Sport.de. With Max Verstappen having the other seat at Red Bull Racing, the management felt that was too big a gamble.

"We believe it would cause emotional problems for Tsunoda if he found out next to Max that he could not beat him, or come close at all. That things would not go as he would expect beforehand."

Most likely Senna. Clark next.

Schumacher and Hamilton were exceptionally quick too but you build a car with them. The other two could have been racing shopping trolleys and won.
Love this statement about Senna and Clark. The two most talented drivers ever in my opinion. I put Clark at the top of the pile (he was Senna’s idol), but you put it perfectly that those two could race shopping trolleys around a track at 130mph, and make it look easy. The purest drivers ever. Schumi and Hamilton were both special too.

agreed. there’s the obvious all the development work on the car being aimed at max, not being allowed to overtake max, having to swap positions with max if it benefits max. but also only being allowed to eat what max leaves, him exercising his right of prima nocta for any new girlfriend of yours and having to clean all max’s cars and emptying his streaming piss jugs.

Probably not far from the truth on all counts.

Spa 'rotated out' in the coming years

A joke of a sport.

Spa is being rotated out to make way for other potential races in Thailand, Argentina, or a second race in Saudi Arabia. Replacing Spa with a second Saudi race??

Spa was rubbish in 2024. Another track where it's impossible to follow closely around 95% of the lap. As soon as they shortened the Kemmel DRS zone the number of overtakes went from 75 in 2023 to 33 in 2024.

Not that overtakes there take any amount of skill or are remotely entertaining anyway.

Can only be a good thing if there is one less race every year where I feel the urge to turn on.

So Spa, for me one of the best tracks in F1, will only be run in 2026, 2027, 2029 and 2031, no 28 or 30
FIA WTF are you doing.
FOM*

Spa has had financial problems for about 20 years in putting on F1. This is a good deal for all parties in that it maintains the circuit on the calendar. Barcelona will be the next one to rotate.

This comes after news that the Dutch GP has been cancelled and there hasn't been a German GP for a while now. Sad times for anyone living in those countries, especially us Dutchies.
