F1 2024 Season

Thay was probably the most exciting dry qualifying in as long as I can remember

Thought I was going to be staying with my prediction then as I had Max pole

That was so great.

I am interesting to hear if some people still think Hamilton is good as he used to be? Nothing to be shame about, you can't last forever and it's perfectly reasonable that he is getting old, and Russel isn't even that great. It will be fun next year with Leclerc.

Wow Mercedes have turned it around, have to appreciate this comeback.
The grid is so incredibly tight, Ferrari fell off this weekend yet we have 3 teams battling for pole

It’s really hard to say. It’s definitely possible he’s lost a step given his age. On the other hand, wind apparently became an issue for the late runners in Q3. I don’t know, it might be a mix of both.

He seems to have lost that one lap focus, makes small mistakes at the absolute worst times. That comment at Monaco about 2 tenths in quali is odd but he should be backing that up once he leaves, is it a car thing or a driver thing?

Russell is very good, not quite elite but he’s got 13 years on Hamilton, it’s not like Ham is doing a Perez and nowhere but two tenths is a huge difference on grid spots when it’s tight like this.

Hamilton will be strong in the race tomorrow but will probably be too far back to challenge by the time he makes position, or he will do the usual gamble on hard offset which won’t work.

He is still very good driver, and nowhere near past it, but I think he would lose to at least 4-5 drivers on the grid in the same car.

In quali yeah for sure, he’s still one of the best in races though.

I sort of hope it’s just a characteristic of the Merc now, it’s been such a hot and cold car for 3 seasons it’s hard to judge. But being a fan, that’s probably a bit of wishful thinking, I think he’s just lost a step in quali.

Not really. He is generally consistent due to his experience just like Alonso, but any time he was anywhere near close to the top like Hungary last year he didn't do well.

He dominated Russell in races head to head last year and his pace is still good this year. Individual races you can pinpoint any drivers bad ones. Genuinely I haven’t seen enough of this years races live to truly comment but from what I’ve seen his pace is right there, but he’s always on the back foot with bad qualis.

Not really, two years ago Russel beat him, and last year it would be pretty similar if Russel isn't an idiot(that's where Hamilton is good, he doesn't lose points easily), and they are close this year, with slight advantage so far for Russel. But Russel is level bellow drivers like Leclerc, Norris, Alonso, and maybe even Sainz and Piastri too, let alone Max, that's the thing. 2010s Hamilton would easily beat Russel in pretty much any race.

With Lewis I dont think he has the consistency you need to compete with the delta chasing monsters in the next generation.

You see it with Max and Charles whenever the Ferrari and RB are equal on qualifying pace. Also now seeing it from Lando and Piastri, and Russell today. They put in 5 or 6 stonkingly quick laps a session and rarely do they fail to improve on the previous. Lewis can put in the odd amazing lap but it comes in Q2 or P3, never at the right moment.

Yeah, good point too.

I don’t look at points gaps as an absolute performance variant, first season the car was so bad and Hamilton fecked around with experimental setups for half a season. Last year in races it’s 15-7 in Hamilton’s favour.

He hasn't lost anything speed or ability wise. Was unlucky today, as brundle said at start of Q3, it's a gamble being the last man on track, either you get the track at it's maximum or a yellow flag or red flag ruins it for you. The wind picked up and screwed up his run.

He will be lighting quick tomorrow as the Mercedes looks dialled in for this track. His Q2 time was faster than Q3 Pole Position and he was the only driver into the 1:11's.

It happened to Schumacher, it's happening to Hamilton, it will happen to Verstappen. When your no longer in the quickest car and not delivering race wins and world titles, people presume your past it.

I think we need a few races to be sure. I dont think that's the case just yet. We knew RedBull would struggle in Canada as they have a correlation issue in their simulator on tracks where the surface is bumpy and they have to raise the height of the car.

Ferrari apart from strategy feckup in Q2, never got the car dialled into the race track due to the disruption in the FP's.

Also this circuit doesn't have any of the long high speed corners that have been causing Mercedes issues this season.

Who would have predicted Russell on pole. All the predictions gone down the drain.

Hmmm do I change my predictions, rain may throw everything out

If we even get going properly, I do NOT want to see a safety car start

Odds on Max and George taking each other out in turn 1?

Decided to stick with my predictions due to the rain, think I'll regret it though I've put Ferrari too high

Apparently lots of rain due 10-15 mins into the race, tyre choice going to be interesting, could be wets/inters start, slicks as every line forms, then bang back to wets
This is going to be spicy. Probably cursed the pair, but Hamilton and Verstappen should both be very good in these conditions.

The track has been resurfaced ? Going to be very slippy
