The car being a tad bit understeery this year brings it into Cheko's comfort zone. But I agree he seems like he has come to terms with his standing and is happy simply to carry on. Very uninspiring.

Adrian Newey criticizes the "strange" engines of 2026: "They will act as generators almost all the time"

"It will be a strange formula. The engines will act as generators almost all the time. We'll have to get used to it,"

“I don't know if we should talk about 'extended range electric', but it seems that the new engines of 2026 will work the other way around a traditional hybrid. The propulsion will be electric, supported by the thermal motor when necessary. The opposite of now, when the electric power is a 'plus' to be used on occasion.”

If that turns out to be true, I am done with this mockery after 2025.

Just bring back the v10s and be done with it, all this’s electric motors shit is only a face, the reality is the cars are a tiny percentage of F1s co2 emissions, electric lorry’s and ferry’s would be a bigger change.
This. If they want electric cars race just have seperate race for them.

One of the most entertaining sprit qualifiers in a long while, the rain mixed it up nicely.

Just saw the result. Will watch later. Presume it was a case of being on the track at the right time.

It was more a case of who could keep within the track limits and not go off on a corner. There's very little grip at the circuit this weekend, so that combined with the rain mixed it up nicely.

The story behind Shanghai's 'painted' F1 track surprise:

https://www.motorsport.com/f1/news/the-story-behind-shanghais-painted-f1-track-surprise/10600016/

.But research by Motorsport.com has uncovered that while the track looks like it has been painted, what has happened is actually a bitumen surface treatment that is commonly used on roads in the United States and Asia.

Bitumen is applied in fluid form to the track surface to help bind with the surface of the existing circuit. The idea is that it helps eliminate dust, improves waterproofing and also prevent disintegration of the track.
It is understood that this work was done in Shanghai last year, and the varied colouring around the track is the result of this treatment having been worn away from track running that has taken place since.
The manner of the treatment means it will likely further be worn away over the F1 weekend, which could open the door to varied levels of grip around different parts of the track.

The appearance of the dark surface layer has inevitably triggered memories of Turkey 2020, when teams and drivers were caught out by a remarkable lack of grip on a newly layered surface.

But Sainz was pretty confident things were not going to be that dramatic – as sources suggested the treatment should actually help improve grip rather than reduce it."

Trophy for the GP, lights up when the driver puts it around their neck.

Just watched it. Entertaining. Not seen a lack of grip on a track like that since the turkey GP when they re-laid the track. Not checked the weather but a wet weekend for the rest of the GP weekend would be nice.

Holy shit, what an exciting SQ3, that was amazing

Hamilton pulled a great lap, but Norris managed to overshadow it.

Hamilton out in Q1. Mistake in S3 cost him 0.6 compared to Russell's lap. That's poor

Red flag Q2, Sainz drops it on the final corner

Lucky boy, got it started again. Might be able to get back to pits to carry on in Q2.

RedBulls untouchable. They will romp off into the distance tomorrow with ease.

Rosberg was drooling in commentary about how grippy the RedBulls are around here.

Merc really are a mess, both customer cars running in front of them.

Yep. Hamilton said post qually exit they are still experimenting with setups.

More worryingly for them, the car has 70p of downforce that does absolutely.....nothing.

They have a fundamental car design issues that make no sense.

Such a great/fun sport this has turned into. What a turn around since Liberty took over. Bravo.
