F1 2023 Season

Ferrari slower almost second a lap than Hamilton, feck sake. Alonso isn't much better either if he can't catch them.

I've said it before but in my memory the major difference between dominance in the hybrid era and before is down to two things: reliability and aero. There are hardly any mechanical failures these days and cars rarely inexplicably lose grip compared to the 90s and before. Had those items not been an issue then I think someone like a Schumacher would have had 10 titles instead of 7.
Yeh, thats why eras cant be compared. Prost could have been a 9-10 times champion.

"wheel to wheel action" says the announcer while a car blows past another car with a gimmick.

Feck sake how on earth did he catch few seconds on Piastri through the pits in the same lap?

It's interesting watching Perez come through the field it's just a shame the other drivers don't have the car to properly make it difficult for him, if Hamilton's car was better it could be a really gripping battle but it's just inevitable he will clear him in a lap or 2

Perez better not finish 2nd he's messed up my prediction the last few races after I've put him there, he's relegated to 3rd this time and was very close to being put 4th

Hards again for Ferrari? I will definitely stop supporting them.

Yes very good point you could count on one hand the number of retirements nowadays

Have the cars become TOO good?

Some would certainly argue that the sport has become too sterile. Obviously, safety is important, but I used to love watching F1 when they had refueling, for example. It used to add so much unpredictability and drama to proceedings.

Those who are more techy than me - if they scrap DRS do you think it would make overtaking excitement better or worse? I've watched since the 90s but don't really remember what overtaking was like

With drs there's less challenge as they can just breeze past

Yes refuelling used to be very dramatic, obviously we don't want mechanics on fire but there must be an inbetween without putting people's safety at risk

Likewise the big crashes at the corner/mid race, bar today they've just been streaming through the first corner almost processional

Way too easy for Perez there even going round the outside was easy for him

I think they are getting close to being able to get rid of it. All comes down to how much downforce is lost when chasing a car and how close you can get before the aero stalls. I think some tracks dont need it, some still do.

Why doesnt mercedes put hamilton? Even on softs later on he wouldnt make up the time he looses now.

How fine tuned are the mechanics? Could we have races where it can't be used then races where it can perhaps? Maybe pick one of the early ones where it's not needed to trial banning it

Just no fun with that red bull.

Just way too easy posted up thread it should be interesting watching him come through the field but it's not

So what’s Hamilton doing on this strategy then? Just hoping for a safety car? Or newer tyres near the end to try and chase down Piastri? Latter seems a stretch.

I'd be interested in how many times Max is shown during the race can't remember the last time he was here

They had no choice, as Piastri and Perez pitted together, even if Lewis had stopped lap later, they would have overtaken him. So they decided to play this stint as long as it was possible to give some edge later on the race instead + potentially a chance for SC.

18 laps to make history and make it 12 wins in a row. What an utter shite season. One of the worst in recent memory. 12 races in a row. Literally no competition for RB.
