F1 2022 Season

It would have been less unfair if they’d restarted the race this time, as all the leaders had the chance to stop. However, I still don’t get why the Tifosi were booing. Max was by far the best driver/car package today and deserved the win.

This wasnt a farce it was the correct albeit boring application of the rules. Last season was masi making shit up at abu dhabi.
Spot on. It's a boring finish but it's the correct finish. Red flag should be required on instances like this however.

Most boring race hihglights ever, nothing even to comment from the guys

The ending was a damp squib but the correct application of the rules, ultimately still a fair result too so they need to re-think how they want to end these things, either way someone loses out.

A highly decorated experience man lost his job by making up his own rules last year, a major difference to today.

A new herculian sportsman destined for real GOAT status has stood up. Max, go get those world championships! 10 10 10, we want 10.

But people didn't like this ending.
They didn't like last years ending either.

So are we suggestion we wouldn't be happy either way?

Again you're being completely disingenuous. People think this was boring. They're not calling bs. If it could have been red flagged that would have been a better option for spectators but only if it was legal.

Crofty is clueless and bitter. There are clear guidelines for red flagging and this didn’t meet them.

Red flagging if there’s a track obstruction with x laps to go is a fine idea but you’d have to write it into the rules.

Red flag and restarts here and in Abu Dhabi would probably have been best.

Ok cool. Thanks for the information. I should just not listen to anything Crofty says

Masi is a legend for not letting the championship end like this last season. We could've used his leadership today.

Yes, rules are rules, fine.

But last year Hamilton fans were disgusted with the ending. Max fans weren't.
This time around, without a title on the line, it seems everyone wanted the race to have a finish.

That suggests to me if roles were reversed last year, Lewis fans would have loved the ending.

Just my observation of course

With a crane being brought out onto the track that should have been red flagged but of course that would not have given Max a definite win. They only finish a race under the safety car when max is in the lead.

More people liked last year's ending. No one, or only a handful of boring people, liked this one.

Worth noting that there would have been less complaints last year if they’d red flagged it, as Hamilton would probably still have won then in a fair fight.

Another total snoozefest.

Oh well, maybe something will happen next season. :(

I'm not a Hamilton fan and it was clearly bullshit. Obviously Hamilton fans would have taken it, much like when United benefit from a dodgy penalty I'm not going to make an issue if it, but it doesn't make it right and the two reactions are not even comparable. People are just saying it was boring and maybe they should change the rules. What happened last year was a piss-take from a nuetral's perspective.

I think after he wins the WDC at singapore he shouldnt race again this season. Just play no9 for utd and score 50 goals before the start of next season. Who needs haaland? We have supermax the greatest GOAT ever blud. After all he is the GOAT of all time of every sport, in every universe, of every dimension, every to be crrated or yet to be created.

He would still get slagged off in the utd player performance forum though...

Yep.

My suggestion is that the rules are changed so that any safety car in the last 5 laps = red flag, all cars in the pitlane and then a standing start when they are ready. At least then it gives everyone some clarity.

Today was poor from both a safety and a spectacle with regard to the safety car. Yet again it was called for far too late. Everyone could see a safety car was needed but it must have took 30 seconds to press the button. Someone is going to get hurt and it's not the first time this year it's been very slow. Are they working out when to press it so as not to disrupt the leader? It must have taken 2 laps for the leader and safety car to find each other. I know Max pitted, as did others in the lead group, but again without any bunching up you've got cars racing round with a digger out on track.

Another race I'm totally convinced confirms Russell is secretly just an AI driver, he does nothing of note, flies under the radar and collects his good result. 7 podium finishes now yet outside of his pole in Hungary he's done nothing spectacular.

At no point has anyone gone "oh shit here comes Russell!", he's even boring in the wheel to wheel stuff as he just picks his battles. If Merc ever give him a race winning car he's going to be hard to beat over a season, he's so consistently boring.

Yes as they can all change tyres under a red flag.

Mr Consistent. Very rarely sparkles, very rarely makes a mistake.

Just to be clear, I have absolutely no problem with this ending. It ensures that the best driver of the day won, benefiting from the 20 second gap he had made. I’d always prefer that outcome over a manufactured one lap shootout. However, you do understand that the difference today was that, had they restarted, it would have, at least, been a fair fight?

Had situations been reversed last year, I’d have been happy enough for the FIA to do the right thing and reverse the result. Sporting integrity should always trump any personal preference for one of the participants.

Safety car finishes and winners before today:

Bahrain 2020: Lewis Hamilton
Bahrain 2019: Lewis Hamilton
China 2015: Lewis Hamilton
Canada 2014: Daniel Ricciardo
Brazil 2012: Jenson Button
Monaco 2010: Mark Webber
Italy 2009: Rubens Barrichello
Australia 2009: Jenson Button
Canada 1999: Mika Häkkinen

But yeah, they only finish a race under the safety car when Max is leading

Exactly, which is why red flagging is understandable at least, as it would have allowed all drivers to pick the right tyres for the shootout, even if it's still manufactured.

Jenson Button regen (although Button was more likeable).

you've missed Spa from last year out of that list.
