F1 2022 Season

Merc showing that sometimes they are just as bad as Ferrari when it comes to strategy.

Verstappen HUMILIATING britain's best Russel and Hamilton in one race. The latter is used to seeing the flying dutchman zoom past him, Russel is getting a taste of what his bright future is going to be like: watching red bull car's ass.

What a day. Racing to an overwhelming second championship. I'm buzzing.

Then what are you arguing about? feck me. It was either pit neither if you think there’s a chance he wouldn’t pass both - which it turns out there was zero chance - or you pit both.

No one is arguing ffs  The only strategy was to pit for new softs. You said there was other calls, there wasn't.

The call was leave out both to try and win. Or pit both.

Leaving both out and trying to win was never an option which is the point I was contending. The only option was to pit both. Mercedes didn't go this and only went with one call, and the results speak.

I think the mistake by Mercedes was probably not informing Hamilton that Russell was going in for softs so he couldn't make an informed decision on his own tyres.

Russell's call was last minute in the pits, Hamilton was past the pit box when Russell decided to come in. There was never an opportunity to make a call.

OR PIT BOTH. Are you being deliberately obtuse? Either they felt they could win - if so they had to leave both out. They had zero chance to win thus they had to pit both. The option they took - to pit only Russell should not have been an option. It meant zero chance of the win and left Hamilton out there to dry.

That's fair, if it was that late there's not much Mercedes could have done (apart from make the decision for him)

Russell hasn’t actually beaten Hamilton on pace since Lewis stopped fecking about with setups but he’s not going to catch him now. I’m sure he won’t give a shit really but the frothing internet will love it and try to re-write the history books.

Russell is really good though.

Don’t really want to get involved, but it looks like you’re both saying the same thing???

Not a lot will be said about that restart, Max reaction was brilliant and he was close to Hamilton even before that last corner and using DRS. Once again showing he is easily the best driver on the grid.

I don't think Hamilton will be proud of that restart.

Also RB were one of the first to pit under the SC, gave up the lead and went to softs. It was a good call in the end.

To pass Hamilton on the straight before the first corner was icing on the cake for them.

There's nothing to sat about the restart, it wasn't ever going to be a competition. Hamilton was a sitting duck, a Red Bull on brand new softs vs Mercedes on used mediums isn't a contest.

Hardly the majestic win Horner is saying it was.
George driver of the day for me.

Horner has never been one for humility, but I can't believe Max got DOTD. His was a solid drive today, but he took the fastest car by a mile from 1st to 1st, assisted by a perfectly timed safety car, hardly earth shattering stuff.

Russell was far more deserving (as would Lewis have been if Mercedes had given him softs at the end).

Max could have 10 titles really if he plays his cards well. I don't see any other driver who is close to him once Lewis retires.

Hamilton needs to realise them both staying out was never going to result in them keeping Max behind. It would have happened sooner or later. Russel made the right call and Mercedes should have anticipated what happened the moment they knew the safety car required going through the pits. Hamilton should have come in too and tried to take second.

No because Ferraris were 2nd and 3rd on soft tyres. Going for a 1 stop would have been idiotic
But it was proven the one stop from medium to hard was the fastest strategy, because of the pace of the hard tyre? Max would have been in trouble if there were no SC’s

Hamilton made a it of a mess of it, agreed. It wouldn't have affected the race, but he should have waited until the last second to accelerate to avoid giving Max a tow.

Think this is a bit harsh on Charles, who has more than proven he has the pace to compete with max, shame his team are all potato’s

I thought it was an entertaining watch, although a bit of a mess at the end with a lot of strange strategy calls and team mistakes.

Will be curious to hear the full details on what the hell actually happened with Tsunoda out there? Some sketchy stuff going on around that anyway. Of course that kicked off the strange end to the race.

Yep, accelerating in the corners while Max is on softs was really amateur stuff. And from what I can remember before Hamilton was always good on restarts.

They can’t warm the tyres up. Russell almost got passed by le clerc on a new set of softs - Hamilton had zero chance against that red bull on old mediums.

When the going gets tough, Charles seems to crack. I rate him on par with Vettel, good/great driver but will get eaten by Max wheel to wheel if all things are equal.

The one dark horse I can't really judge for now is Russell. But he needs to be faster than Hamilton if he wants to stand a chance.

Bold call and if he does fair play to him, but to win 10 close to impossible I think, but I think he will equal Lewis.

I think he will easily have at least 5, and time is on his side. He just needs to make smart career decisions

He needs to accelerate to generate heat in the tyres to warm up a harder compound, it's an amateur view if you don't understand the difference between the compounds at a restart.
