F1 2022 Season

But right now it's aligned - the difference is the US does DST a couple weeks earlier than Europe; we caught up this past weekend. The time difference between GMT and Las Vegas will be 7 hours for two weeks in March, 9 hours for two weeks in September, and 8 hours for the rest of the year.

Yeah it's been inverted. If it's a night race in Vegas (presuming 22:00 local time) that'd be 6 AM GMT.
Are they actually on about a night race over there, if so I can see the race being on a Saturday night, as your basically fecking over the majority of your fan base and going head to head with the NFL in America.

Have they clarified when that would fall in the calendar? I'm assuming it'd be during the summer when there would be no NFL- surely they'd try to avoid it on that basis as you say. And if it is in summer then a night race would be essential I'd reckon given the temperatures. The Saturday night race is an intriguing possibility but you also might cannibalise viewers due to college football?

The report the pauldie put up says the Thanksgiving weekend and Saturday would be the logical choice a day to night one probably the preferred option

Huh that's very interesting. Potentially the impact of the NFL would be slightly mitigated given the 3 games on Thursday that week? I suppose though that's what they're weighing up. If they are committed to growing the sport in the US though, owning that Saturday night would go a long way potentially and on that basis it makes sense.

A bit of research and I have answered my own question.

The 1981 U.S. GP-West II in Las Vegas was held on Saturday. A brand new circuit, it was one of the first GPs to circumvent the rule that a race had to be held on the circuit before a GP was. Perhaps t was the first GP held in that regard. Practice was held on Wednesday with qualifying on Thursday and Friday. I was there that Wednesday, waiting for the circuit to open. I kid you not, there was a woman sitting behind a card table at the entrance to the pits. "Carlos Reutemann? Oh yes, I see your name listed. You can come in." Unbelievable but true.
it turns out that the British GP for a while alternated between Saturdays and Sundays in concert with the odd-year Silverstone/even-year Brands Hatch venue alternation, and even including the the two GPs held on British soil in 1983:

Up to and including 1975: Saturday
1976: Sunday
1977: Saturday
1978: Sunday
1979: Saturday
1980: Sunday
1981: Saturday
1982: Sunday
1983 GP of GB: Saturday (Silverstone); GP of Europe: Sunday (Brands Hatch)
1984: Sunday
1985 Both GPs/venues: Sunday
1986 and on: Sunday

Funny how you forget things, seems like Sunday F1 has always been around , but its not, I would have watched the races on a Saturday.

Cool yeah, but shite scary for the average driver :wenger::nervous:

I have NO idea how they have such a limited view and drive at that high speeds with ease. F1 should adopt Inter Milan's slogan #NotForEveryone
But with letters big enough Mazepin and Latifi can see them.

They were all before my time:D, it makes sense in a world where the likes of WWE have moved some of there PPVs to Saturday to more than likely grab more of the European market,

Really wants title no3, why not carry on. He just needs alpine to come good for 1 season and deliver a car that can challenge.

Let's wait for Miami and see what big changes they have brought to the car. So far they are 3rd fastest car I believe.

FIA have just announced the Las Vegas GP and it will be in November 2023
It will be a night race and will be held on a Saturday. The eight-hour time difference will mean it is broadcast early on Sunday morning in Europe. .

Now I have got my timings right, what a donut Iam !!
The timings are going to be rubbish, unless it changes from the normal 2 pm race start

have you forgotten how to f1 in the off season? double down on it. don’t admit you’re wrong. force las vegans to live in your new time zone. tell themagicfoolbus that he posts here on the fastest pc and that’s the only reason he manages it.

At least there are more than four corners.

3 DRSs?

I wonder what will drop off the calender to accommodate las vegas gp?

Straight forward replacement for russia gp most likely.

Vegas is going to be lit for this racing weekend. Just displeased they're not racing around the Raiders new stadium aka the Roomba.

Scenery haha, more buildings... Mugello, now that was scenery.

That earlier map was entirely wrong then!

This looks much better.
How safe is it going to be? Are they knocking down any 'landmarks' such as the Eiffel Tower or using valet parking outside the casinos?

Will Americans think it's exciting enough or that there's plenty of overtaking? Maybe it has a couple or so longish straights.

Obviously Russia will be cut, but they’ll rotate some of the European races (France and Germany most likely) and i expect Imola to be cut or rotated from 2023 as they don’t need two races in Italy.

I expect noise around Monaco to start in the next few months as they don’t have a contract for a race next year.

Knocking down landmarks??

That map I quoted looks like it should give a few opportunities for passing and includes some interesting sections.

I suspect they’ll be relaying some of the roads as from memory there are some not great sections of paving around the bits off the strip.

Any advice on the best way to get tickets. I am thinking about heading to the Italian GP in September. Is the F1 site the best place to go or are there other places that would do the weekend package a bit cheaper (or include hotels etc…)

I'm just thinking about some run off areas is all.

Being in America I don't suppose they have very wide roads though?

I am looking to do Monza as well but tickets haven’t been released yet.

I set a notification on the f1 ticket page to be told when they are released, so I guess it will be around that time other companies (travel agenices etc…) would start putting toghether packages too

Have Imola tickets gone out yet?

Yes, they only have the 3 day package on the f1 site though.

It's a street track so won't be any run offs. Think Jeddah/Monaco/Baku

That is kind of my point man.

edit, sorry, doesn't come across well. I just think 1 street track, maybe 2 in a season is more than enough. Maybe the risks to drivers aren't worth the biscuit but the racing is usually poor along with the surfaces, tyre grip, degradation is tricky, kerbs can flip a car or take it spearing into another. blah blah blah, loads more reasons.

But it does have some straights.

The roads are pretty wide, but yea it’s still a street circuit with the risks that go along with it.

I think it looks like it’ll be an awesome event.

Concern is it pushes a more historical venue off the calendar.

I think a really important aspect of selling the race to Americans apart from not going along with my team cheerleaders idea is that the size of the buildings makes the cars appear not to be going that fast. Americans will be disappointed.

Yeah im not a big fan of street racing either but unfortunately it's where the money is these days.

as long as they make it interesting enough it'll be fine.

Another thing, with another street circuit in calendar i think it make Formula E become more pointless going forward. They just get push aside more and more. Used to watched it quite often but i got bored quickly. I dont see its appeal aside from electric stuff anymore.
