Your obsession with slating McLaren is a little unhinged.
I'm a huge fan of the biggest and most successful name in the history of motorsport since I was 7 years old. My car, my bike, even my lawn mower is made by Honda. If I win a lottery, my plane will also be made by Honda. That's where the "unhinged" comes from.
Now that we got that part out of the way, the fact is Mclaren are arrogant, entitled and completely delusional about their place in F1. Don't forget that they were nowhere in 2014. with the dominant Mercedes engine. That really tells you all you need to know about what level they were on before Honda partnership started but it didn't stop them from acting like they are coming in as the ultimate winning team. Everything had to be done their way. They gave Honda no room to find the best option, the best package.
They've been slating Honda for 3 years for every problem they had (and 1/3 of their problems were not engine related as we all know) and now that "they can finally race" and "challenge Red Bull with Renault engine" they are still second and a half off Red Bull. They are also slower then Renault and they will be fighting Toro Rosso this season for a place in the middle of the midfield. You couldn't make this shit up if you compare reality with their statements and expectations at the end of last season. Actually you could, because Boulier (incompetent and out of his depth, yet extremely arrogant)and Alonso (me, myself and I) is a combination that will guarantee failure.
I'm also extremely happy to see Sky people (Kraviz and Brundle in particular) trying to find some gentle words to explain Mclaren's pace now that there's no more Honda to simply spit on. All of this is so much fun.
New regs for 2021. will be a compromise. Money will be more evenly spread, but MGU-H will stay and no new manufacturer will enter the sport (imo). Maybe, just maybe VW, if they can recover from dieselgate. If it happens it will be with Audi or Porsche branded engine, and they won't be interested in going with Mclaren as a works team.
Mclaren desn't make engines and they don't have the resources to develop F1 engine under any kind of regs that invlove hybrid technology (which will stay).
Mclaren's do make amazing road cars and their car division will be just fine without them competing in F1. Winning days are long gone. They should just quit F1 all together if competing in midfield is below their level.
