F1 2018 Season

True. I think of the 3 Alonso needs the car to be less perfect for him to be happy.

I think Ricciardo in a Merc would push Hamilton. There’s something about him that I like. He probably isn’t that fast over one lap like Vettel and Hamilton. I’d love to see him in Ferrari next year. Vettel + Verstappen would also be hilarious but probably a disaster waiting to happen.

Still. Love Kimi. I’m so happy to see him perform at such a high level. Hope he can keep it up for the entire season.

Next year:

Hamilton/Ricciardo.

Vettel/Magnussen.

Possibly? Verstappen being the undisputed no. 1 at Red Bull.

I'd want to see Ricciardo and Hamilton too in a Mercedes and see how that goes but he needs to beat Verstappen this year I think. And if Kimi keeps performing like this than Ferrari will definitely keep him on unless he decides to quit himself. He is performing really well so far but it hasn't translated into results yet. What I'd want to see next year is this:

Hamilton Riccardo - Merc
Vettel Kimi - Ferrari
Verstappen Alonso - Red Bull

Wishful thinking I know but we'd see proper racing if this was the line up. Blockbuster stuff but Red Bull would never take Alonso over one of their current young drivers in the programme sadly.

This year I think he's been generally the quicker driver of the Ferrari's but he misses something when it counts and Vettel is able to produce the goods at the crucial moments. Kimi was really unlucky last week and has more bad luck for some reason. Anyways looking really good for Ferrari.
We can fight for the Constructors' Championship this year with Kimi in a such great form :)

I think with the change in weather , it will be between Merc and Ferrari , the Red Bulls will not get close enough.
But Max and Lewis could be close in the early stages, god help Max if he hits Lewis again, could be a fight in the pit lane .
At least no Ferrari involved this time

Of the track mix so far

Australia
Bahrain
Shanghai

Which would be Merc track and which a Ferrari, very early on, but looking very good for Vettel and Ferrari for the season

Hope Raikonnen puts up a fight to Vettel, like Rosberg briefly did to Hamilton. Those Vettel/Webber years were the worst.

Clearly whoever is in charge of designing the Mclaren car needs changing.

They have a good "idea" of what they want, but they just can't put it together.

Someone reminded me they were equally bad when they had the Mercedes engine. In 2014 when Mercedes started their domination McLaren finished 5th including behind Williams despite all three teams having the same hybrid engine. They've got till the European races otherwise heads will roll surely.

Yep it's all gone wrong since Dennis left the first time.

Leaving Honda is a good thing for the future of Mclaren, not because the Honda engine was "bad" but now they cannot hide behind any excuses. They were catching up last season and finishing between 5-10 quite regularly, but now it's back to 6-12 again which is poor.

Obviously catching Merc / Ferrari / Red bull isn't easy, but they should be in that bracket.

So delusional.. Mclaren is on the Williams route. There's no way back for them. Mediocrity is the new reality. Get used to it.

Your obsession with slating McLaren is a little unhinged.

Your obsession with slating McLaren is a little unhinged.

I'm a huge fan of the biggest and most successful name in the history of motorsport since I was 7 years old. My car, my bike, even my lawn mower is made by Honda. If I win a lottery, my plane will also be made by Honda. That's where the "unhinged" comes from.

Now that we got that part out of the way, the fact is Mclaren are arrogant, entitled and completely delusional about their place in F1. Don't forget that they were nowhere in 2014. with the dominant Mercedes engine. That really tells you all you need to know about what level they were on before Honda partnership started but it didn't stop them from acting like they are coming in as the ultimate winning team. Everything had to be done their way. They gave Honda no room to find the best option, the best package.

They've been slating Honda for 3 years for every problem they had (and 1/3 of their problems were not engine related as we all know) and now that "they can finally race" and "challenge Red Bull with Renault engine" they are still second and a half off Red Bull. They are also slower then Renault and they will be fighting Toro Rosso this season for a place in the middle of the midfield. You couldn't make this shit up if you compare reality with their statements and expectations at the end of last season. Actually you could, because Boulier (incompetent and out of his depth, yet extremely arrogant)and Alonso (me, myself and I) is a combination that will guarantee failure.

I'm also extremely happy to see Sky people (Kraviz and Brundle in particular) trying to find some gentle words to explain Mclaren's pace now that there's no more Honda to simply spit on. All of this is so much fun.

New regs for 2021. will be a compromise. Money will be more evenly spread, but MGU-H will stay and no new manufacturer will enter the sport (imo). Maybe, just maybe VW, if they can recover from dieselgate. If it happens it will be with Audi or Porsche branded engine, and they won't be interested in going with Mclaren as a works team.
Mclaren desn't make engines and they don't have the resources to develop F1 engine under any kind of regs that invlove hybrid technology (which will stay).

Mclaren's do make amazing road cars and their car division will be just fine without them competing in F1. Winning days are long gone. They should just quit F1 all together if competing in midfield is below their level.

It's fine to be bitter and hate McLaren, just dial it down a bit when posting because it's dull and you're better spent using your energies to enjoy TR's season. Most McLaren fans are self-loathing anyway.

McLaren were nowhere indeed in 2014, but it was still the last time the team had managed two consecutive races with both cars finishing in the points. Until the first two races of this season, that is.

Set up nicely for a good fight for 2nd and 3rd as expected, race over for the win already though.

I am watching it on the german tv and they aren't showing Vettel anymore. Giving up on the 1st spot?

The rules simply state "each driver must use at least two different specifications of dry-weather tyres during the race". So if it's one lap on a set of softs and 50-odd laps on a set of mediums, that's within the rules.

If they want a one stop , they will have to hammer the softs they have on now and the only other option is the medium.
