There is a hole in the nose...

The McLaren looks pretty good on track:

That does look much nicer there, the black on top of the nose still looks pretty clumsily done but overall not bad. They've put up some vids as well which is good

The orange colour looks great on track, the livery itself is shockingly bad.

Aaah McLaren, never change.

Ferrari is looking fast and putting in the laps too. Interesting Merc only team using both drivers in a day. Get twice as many laps in as the rest.

Honda... jesus god.

Looking like another rubbish season for McLaren ahead. Get rid of Honda ffs!

It's got to be hurting him that Ferrari look to have nailed the regulation changes for once, if he'd just stuck it out there for two more years he'd be favourite for the title right about now.

The new cars look to be a second or two faster on the Barcelona test than even the 2004 cars, and will no doubt get quicker as the season progresses. They still sound like shit mind you.

Another great vid from 2004. Forward to 0:50 for the brown trouser moment:

I don't know
I think Vettel may be right in proclaiming Mercedes are still quickest and they're hiding performance in testing

McLaren broken down twice so far this morning. Every time I say it can't get any worse it does. How can a team with so much money and talent build such a poor car year after year.

Was it another engine problem?

If it was it's such a shame as Alonso said he is happy with the chassis. The car looks good and Alonso only has a couple of years left, they really should be challenging for honours

It seems to be Honda holding them back to be fair
Absolutely. The car might be a lemon, but it's impossible to judge given the engine is such a waste of metal. And the deal is for ten years...

It wasn't going anywhere with Alonso at Ferrari. He could have won the title twice in a Ferrari if he'd been at his best at the end of both seasons, but he wasn't. I don't see why Alonso in this Ferrari would be favourite and Vettel isn't. Alonso is fast with any car, but Vettel is very fast with a car to his liking, and he's at his best when he needs to. Maybe it's because of his talent to be fast with a bad handling car, but it doesn't look like Alonso is very good at developping the car to a very fast one, Vettel has no other option because if the car doesn't fit him, he's very average.

Mercedes are already talking about updates not working as planned and going on about "unlocking the potential" of their car, that never bodes well. Obviously they'll be holding back a bit but I don't think they've shown anything to suggest they could match Vettel's race sim from yesterday.

I'm losing of hope of ever seeing Alonso become a champion again. That Honda engine seems to get worse and worse. Really poor move by McLaren.

I was really excited when it was announced, couldn't wait to get away from being a Merc customer  Dumb.

At this point I have just psychologically accepted Alonso retiring as a 2 time WDC. That's something I couldn't have imagined back in 2006 when he won his second WDC at the age of 25. Hell, it's not even something I would have ever imagined in 2010 when Alonso signed for Ferrari.

I really disliked him back then, a sure sign of a great driver. He's had the worst luck since. Hope he gets one more, he deserves it.

Shame if Mclaren ditch Honda, F1 could do with more factory based teams not less. The premise of reverting back to factory status, I believe was a sound, long term strategy for Mclaren and despite current woes, ditching them now would be a mistake. They made significant strides in the latter part of the season just gone, and there's no reason, given Honda's resources, why they can't resolve their current difficulties. I hope they tough it out.

Bloody hell, McLaren reportedly sound out Mercedes for a return to customer engines - http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/128530/mclaren-sounds-out-mercedes-on-engines

Not really much else they can do at this stage, the biggest stint they managed in testing was 11 laps. Finishing last would be a humiliation and financial disaster.
But Honda contribute so much financially to them, which would be lost, and then the cost of buying Merc engines on top
Probably financially worse to ditch Honda
