F1 2017 Season

Pretty close between Mercedes and Ferrari going into Q3, looks like Vettel has the edge judging by his last run. Bottas on course to outqualify Hamilton which would be impressive.

McLaren getting a car into Q2 is impressive too, in a depressing sort of way.

I actually thought Bottas would struggle but he did well.
It already looks like the fight for the title will be a 4 horse race, between Merc and Ferrari.
Lewis's 3/10th will be more than Vettel wanted.
Remains to be seen now how the race pace is and if Lewis has improved his starts from last season.

I love Palmer's interview after Q2:

R: "What's the problem? Can you isolate an area?"
JP: "The brakes are terrible. The balance is pretty horrible. The traction is terrible."
R: "So what can you do in the race tomorrow, is that going to be a long race for you around here?"
JP: "Oooh yeah."

How do you guys rate Kimi's chances if the Ferrari comes good? Does he still have it in him to mount a challenge?
Did he ever? Good driver, but mounting a challenge this season isn't about beating Massa in the same car.

Just watched the quali, looks like Ferrari are close Mercedes. Could be a classic title fight between the 2.

Any speed trap info
Is the Honda still massively down on power? How about Renault and Ferrari - been able to bridge gap to the Mercedes

No real change for Mclaren, they're still about 10kph down on the speed trap.

Not actually as bad for McLaren as I was expecting, Alonso-wise anyway. We'll have to see if the engine can handle a race distance.

Where can I watch the highlights. I can't see anything on Ch4.

Kinda called it yesterday with the Mercs being a little up the road a bit from Ferrari. Didn't expect Bottas to be as close to Hamilton on his first quali. Start will be interesting as they have a new clutch/launch system which is apparently more difficult. Red Bull worryingly off the pace - 1.3 secs behind the Merc is a tough ask to make up over a season.

Torro Rosso have done a great job, as has Grojean in the HAAS. Hopefully they have enough race pace to make their quali stick. Shame for Ricciardo but it'll be interesting seeing him carve through a few - he'll have to watch Perez off the start though.

Also shout out to Giovinazzi getting that Sauber to 16th after just jumping into the car this morning! Top work!

Going for a Ferrari 1-2 after turn 1. Hope there's some overtaking but I worry there won't be with the gaps between teams.

Hoping the race isn't won by a strategy call, Ferrari looks quick enough to beat the Merc on the track.

Think Mercedes went too early. Pretty disappointing from Bottas and Raikkonen so far.

They could've kept Vettel out a lot longer, he was making more than a sec a lap. Why did they make him pit? I don't get it.

Because he'd got the gap to Hamilton? He can just cruise to the finish now instead of worrying about safety cars or tyres.

Good race so far. Though it seems its going to be a bit boring now.

Ferrari definitely have the pace this year which is awesome. Been waiting for this for so long now.

Dull race in the end. Not a great start for the new regs, overtaking looks to be almost impossible and judging by the wave of fastest laps at the end they're still cruising around for most of the race. Good to see the Ferrari hype was justified though.

Missed the start, so I missed the action I think. Looks like this season won't be a walkover for Mercedes which will hopefully make for better watching.

German national anthem followed by the Italian national anthem. How long its been since I've heard that. Loved the Schumacher jump by Vettel :D
