F1 2010

Are they accurately simulating the performance of the different cars, or is it possible to win the championship in a Virgin? I've won many things with virgins over the years, but this is in a different sense.

I started a career with Virgin and has won a race already albeit on easy.

I'm pretty sure you could win a championship in any car on easy.

It's not too bad on easy. But without driving aid and on higher levels it will definitely be hard.

The problem with this game is that I'm quite sure that nobody here can call it on whether it is accurate or not, on whatever settings. It's one thing to drive your BMW in real life and then try and do the same in GT or Forza, but this is a completely different kettle of fish.

Indeed, but same basic engineering and physics principles apply to all cars, and if these games want to be realistic then anything that would work in real life should work in game.

Oh and Forza 2 set up right (more so than 3 funnily enough) can replicate my car and it's characteristics surprisingly well.

They've had Anthony Davison in as the consultant on all things F1, he says it handles like the real thing & thats good enough for me.

One issue is that road cars depend mostly on mechanical grip, and little aerodynamics. F1 cars depend greatly on aerodynamic downforce, to increase mechanical grip.

Mechanical grip is easier to model, I think. Modeling aerodynamics is far more complicated, again, I think.

That's not strictly true (especially round a track with a fast RWD road car), but I know where you are coming from. F1 cars are of course different beasts, but the same basic principles apply.

The heavy steering, bar being poor game design of course, I'll fix in no time.

Hmmmm, I wouldn't have thought so. But I guess it depends on the level of accuracy.

postman has come and gone, no game :(
I can only find out if mine has been delivered at roughly 2pm when someone gets in to check the post.

Someone at work got a copy of the new Guitar Hero delivered this morning from ShopTo and that is released tomorrow. He said that he got the dispatch confirmation email yesterday, whereas I got mine for F1 on Tuesday so you'd think if his came, so would mine.

When did you place your pre-order?

They already have it in stores here, costs roughly £38 - won't buy it yet in fear of getting bored after a day or two of playing, and I found that GRID is available at £16 so I will probably finally buy it because it's supposed to be a decent racing game.

i ordered it about 2 months ago and it was dispatched on tuesday

Turns out that they haven't released it yet, only had a few English copies in stores - they'll be dispatching Polish edition to stores next Friday which kind of saves me a dilemma whether to buy it or not because FIFA 11 is being released around the same time and I will definitely go for FIFA 11.

I thought I could just start this with all driver aids off and AI on legendary, but I was wrong... so wrong. I'm glad if I can finish a lap without crashing off. :nervous:

Well I've had a couple of hours with it now and it is sweet as a nut so far.

Xbox 360 version using the ms wheel with all our assists off and top AI difficulty and full race weekend. (although I have only done time trial and first race practice session of career).

I chose lotus for my career but first picked bahrain for some time trials first.

Assists off, I set of in the lotus and surprisingly the handling was comfortable from the off. Certainly more forgiving than forza without assists in regard to wheel spinning corners and locking up the breaks.

Both can be done if you are heavy on the break or accelerator but certainly not to hard to avoid.

After doing free practice in career with same car and settings I presume the car is perfectly upto temp in time trials because you can spin easier in free practice still not as bad as forza though, and the engineer lets you know when break and tire temps are up to speed.

You can get grid penalties even in free practice for dangerous driving or spinning out.

The handling is very good, cockpit view is superb although initially the slightly above view seemed easier to hit the apex but I prefer the cockpit view so have stuck with it.

One thing that is strange if you turn the FF setting (linear) down the wheel gets heavier but you cannot keep the car in a straight line so need it around 35-35. Not sure if this is a bug or supposed to be that way.

Was not a fan of grid in the slightest so I am very happy this game does not play that way.

Graphics are good but not as mind blowing as they looked in preview vids although I've only done Dusty bahrain so far and not seen any weather effects.

Sound is fantastic, best I've heard in engine audio.

How about those 10 sec collision penaltys:D

Got turned and collided on the first corner and got a warning. I'm going to be collecting more penalties than points once I start playing at a hard level

The subtle difference in grip when tires wear in is superb. As is the effect of changes to your setup. I think I'm really gonna get into this.

What I've found out is - if you're newb (like me) and need some assistance (abs, traction control, help line in corners) but you also want realism (fighting with bruno Sena for 20th place for example) - put the game on hardest.
I've tried first on medium but it was too easy, top 3 place with a lotus. Then on hard - I reached top 10, which is also too much for lotus. So basically - it's hardest where's at.

Is it worth me queuing up to get this from Tescos or somewhere tonight, or is it not going to live up to the hype?

Managed to get some game time in and I am quite impressed. The handling is just about what I expected it to be and there is a noticeable difference between the handling of each car, for example the McLaren feels really fast on the straights but quite heavy in the slow stuff where as the Red Bull is absolutely planted everywhere but is down on power. But that was all from using the dualshock.

I managed a few laps with the wheel and quite frankly it comes alive, the force feedback isn't what I would classify as great but I use very little anyway even on sims so its no big deal.

A few issues that need sorting like the pitlane bug and the ridiculous entry speed. The chrome McLaren quite frankly is a very bad effort and it looks almost cartoon like, on the whole the lighting in this game isn't a great.

I haven't been online for a while, so forgive the question. Are there any downladable demos for this on PSN?

I can imagine this game collecting dust when GT5 comes out, so I would like to try before I buy.
