F1 2010

Mine said it was shipped today, so hopefully i might have it tomorrow! Can't fecking wait.

I got back to playing F1 2009 on Wii today, it's still so tough to manage anything even with all the help turned on - hopefully the PS3 version will be slightly less difficult.

I'm still not totally convinced to get it - £30 isn't really that cheap, if it has a nice online mode and isn't very difficult I might buy it - if a slight mistake is going to throw my car out of the track and destroy, canceling out all my effort in the previous 20 laps, then I may not buy it after all and buy Mafia II or some other new release and wait for GT5.

It's quite the conundrum for you then! If it's easy to drive the cars, even with the driving aides turned on, then it's not going to be much of a sim ;)

To be good, it's got to be flaming hard. The only thing they can do to make it less forgiving (and I think they have) is not make you out of the race for the slightest of bumps.

why the feck would you race on driving games with a keyboard?! its like playing snooker with a rope

Analogue stick or wheel, gives you the feeling of some rhythm to the steering

How awful, a cracked PC version is out on torrents;)

An iRacing player's report:

Taken from the iRacing forums, apparently:

Hey chaps

I picked up my F1 2010 review code (PC) on Friday, and sunk about 5
hours into it yesterday. I can't go into too much detail for risk of
breaking the embargo, but I can make a few general points:

1.) Eye watering visuals. Without doubt the sexiest racing game I've
ever seen. I'm running all settings maxed, 1920 x 1080 with 4XAA, on
my i5@3.8GHz, GTX 470 and 8GB DDR3, and it run super smoothly. The
rain effects are sublime, but the real star of the show are the
tracks. There's just so much stuff in the background that I'm often
distracted by the view.

2.) Handling is not as hardcore as iRacing. While the cars have a
propensity to spin if you apply too much gas coming out of a corner,
they don't appear to mind if you drive them across the grass at 150km/
h. I've lost count of the number of times I've cut a corner, with
hardly any slowdown as a result. The force feedback also isn't quite
as lovely as iRacing - it is good, but iRacing's bumps and steering
feel more realistic.

3.) Car damage is quite forgiving. At times it feels almost like
bumper cars - I'll often make contact with other vehicles, rubbing
tires, with no penalty. I've got damage cranked to full, and full race
penalties enabled. I'm more often given a penalty by the stewards than
seeing any physical damage.

4.) The sound engine is superb. The screaming whine of the F1 engines
are captured beautifully, as is the trackside ambiance.

5.) The AI is brutally hard. I've set it to amateur, and have come
last in every race so far. It's quite strange - while the handling
seems easy when set to full real, the AI is still hard when set to its
most basic.

6.) Overall the game is fantastic fun. While hardcore simmers may
dislike the ability to drive over grass and bump and grind with other
cars, most racers will love the way the game makes you feel like an F1
driver, piloting a rocket ship on wheels.

I can't say too much more, but I thought it'd be best to get people's
expectations in line with the final product. The game is 95% there as
a hardcore sim - it just needs the off-road and contact behaviour to
be tweaked to make it perfect for iRacing fans. Hopefully this will be
moddable by the community, or perhaps Codies could be persuaded to
release a "Hardcore mode" as DLC that is much more punishing in this
regard.

Enough talk from me - got to write for the rest of today so I can play
more tonight

Sounds about what I'd expect. Nice that someone who plays a real driving game thinks so highly of it. I think (if true) the grass and collision problems should be more scalable for those of us who want it a bit more hardcore, but at least the handling isn't as weak as I was expecting.

i want it to be really hard even on the amateur setting, part of the challenge and fun

The above review I posted is very promising on that.

Hands up guys, who is going to take their very first drive on hard with all assists off? I definitely am, and I advise everyone else to do so too. It might be a few days of frustration, but the joy you'll get when you start to master it will be unrivalled (it will help your skills at games like Forza and GT too ;) )

the only assist i have on is the racing line and i turn it off after a few laps, everything else off.

here is the launch trailer too

I don't have an idea. Planning to buy a controller though, more so for FIFA.

Wheel will probably be too expensive for me atm.

Ok Never mind, found a disgusting Torrent link for the PC. I'll try it out and report it to the concerned authorities.

yeah. No fun driving with Assists on. Remember buying F1 2001 almost a decade ago. It was a bit too easy

Why can't most studios that do racing games get the lighting right? It just looks cardboard cutout watercolour at times. It's a shame, because it's very detailed.

Maybe it's one of the things they've fudged for extra power? I suppose at speed when your actually playing it doesn't matter so much.

I'll let you know, hopefully tomorrow, what it's like on a big HD tv.

Jesus christ, just tried a few laps and it's not a easy game that's for sure. I'm not laughing at the iracing reviewer finishing last anymore:lol:

The steering feels really heavy, at least with a X360 gamepad.

feck it I'm getting this, my wheel's gathering dust at the moment.

I don't mind it being realistic, in fact what I dread the most is that a slightest move on the stick/wheel will cause the car to take a big turn, it's like that in F1 2009 that I play, you move the wheel a little and the car goes all crazy.

Don't worry it's not like that at all;)

The pitstop bug needs fixing though, if you enter pit alongside other cars your pit crew doesn't release you until all other cars are out of pit... I went from 3rd to 23rd place one race because of that so I try to pit earlier or later than the rest of the field.

So whats the multiplayer like? Can you have 22 players in one race?

We should blatently have a CAF Race one weekend!

Elvis could be a brilliant bernie ecclestone!

Are you running low downforce? Have seen a few low downforce vids on YouTube with heavy steering

Im buying it for the pc so I can use my super pc to max out the graphics and get my steering wheel working. But I may well buy it for the xbox as well if I play it alot :)

Surely it's high downforce on the front that would do that?

In any case, generally higher front tyre pressures and stiffer springs would eliminate that without downforce loss. But as of yet I've not played the game so I don't know what would work in it.
