Ezequiel Garay

Mendes = Manchester United :drool:

He signed up with him not so long ago as well!

Even if it was just a coincidence, it definitely adds a bit of possibility to this bit of gossip. I mean, to sign up with an agent - it usually means that you're thinking of making a move to another club, surely? You don't really need an agent if you're happy with where you are. Valencia even told his agent he wouldn't need him anymore due to him being perfectly happy at United.

After little research, it seems Mendes is the agent of these guys too:
José Mourinho, Luiz Felipe Scolari, Bebe, Simão Sabrosa, Anderson, Fábio Coentrão, Pepe, Ángel Di María, Cristiano Ronaldo, Radamel Falcao, Ricardo Carvalho, Nani, Ricardo Quaresma, Burak Yilmaz, Thiago Silva

So, it could mean nothing considering only 4 of those individuals have had anything to do with United.

Only Wingers, Forwards and defenders except Ando. Feck, no wonder we don't sign any central midfielders.

He is De Gea's agent too, i think. He also shifted to Mendes before joining us and due to his contract with previous agent we had to wait to announce this deal.

id rather put that 20m towards a bid for Hummels if we're in the market for a CB

In today's market I really doubt that anything under 30m can do the job for Hummels. Even that much money probably won't be enough for him.

Anyway, I would love to see him playing for us, when time comes to replace Vidic and Rio.

You're out of your mind if you think Smalling is a better centre-half than Jones - I doubt if Smalling will become anything other than a squad player.

Err? It's interesting how general consensus differs in Caf. Just a year ago he was our best young CB, while now he is not even better than Jones, who has played like 3 times in CB position. I have very high hopes for Smalling and I think that in time he can become one of the best CB in the world. Just look at his debut season at United and think of how good he can become.

Jones on the other side is an unknown in terms of his position. While his talent is undoubted, he has yet to excel in any position.

No De Gea?

Think they both have lapses in concentration but that's only natural for defenders of their age.

Watching first half highlights of Arg vs Bolivia, and the Argentine defence looks all over the place. He isnt starting though, why is that?

I imagine you won't know till the end of season, even if it is true.

They are full of debts:
Benfica (257 mln euro)
Sporting (243,5 mln)
Porto (217,5 mln)

The BCP (central bank of Portugal), blocked new loans for them.

So, they have to sell their best players Garay and Gaitan.

I had no idea Porto and Benfica were in that much debt. I knew Sporting was in trouble, but not the other two.

I think there will be a lot of business in Portugal this Summer with the top European sides. I'm convinced that we'll sign someone from there.

They can't have new loans from Portuguese banks, Sporting Lisboa is tecnically in bankrupt, their are gonna sell everything:

Van Wolfswinkel>Norwich?
Soares> Schalke 04
Jeffren>Everton?
Rui Patricio>Arsenal?
Rojo>Valencia?
Capel>Tottenham, Liverpool, Swansea?
Eri Dier (youngster '94)>Manchester United?
Pedro Mendes>Parma (done deal)
Carillo>Atl Madrid?
Tiago Ilori>PSG?

Never heard of him, any good?

I like Dier, he's comfortable in any defensive position and shows a lot of maturity for a 19 year old. Granted it's not hard to look good at Sporting nowadays, but nevertheless one to watch.

He's English but is not known there because he came to Portugal with just 9 years old. His mother came to work in a temporary job at Euro 2004 and since he got accepted at Sporting they decided to stay.

Regarding the debt, yes, they're astronomical and scary. It's been like this for a while though, and the clubs keep surviving. Sporting now has a new president with new dynamics and promise of new investors. Let's see where it goes. They're by far in a more urgent situation than the other two.

Isn't Dier the "New Beckenbauer" or something?

Still, incredible how Sporting has reached this situation when they were once producing talent after talent.

I don't know, David Luiz was the new Beckenbauer as well.

If Mendes just signed him up to his agency it probably means he'll be up for sale in the Summer.

I guess he will be playing in the Europa cup tonight against the barcodes....will be worth a watch and see how he does against an english side.

Can look at things two different ways I guess with the current injuries cropping up again. However I think the last thing we need is another established CB coming in and expecting to get decent playing time. Smalling and Jones are coming to the age where they want to be playing regularly at CB to hone their craft and we have Evans on top of that. Going to stick my neck out and say that although we might sign a new CB in the summer, its more likely to be a new Smalling/Jones to act as cover and one for the future, rather than an international CB from the portuguese league

Just involved in the cock up for Newcastle's goal. Not totally his fault alone but should have done way better.

£17 million is a hell of a lot, considering the fact we're well stacked in centre backs.

And the source is more than likely bullshit.

Well stacked on center-backs is one thing, but havin quality is another. Injury's aside, we've been a shambles at center-half for large portions of the past 2 years. That area cost us the league 2 seasons ago!

Ferdinand, Vidic, Evans, Smalling, and Jones are amongst the best centre backs in the league. Evans, Smalling, and Jones are also amongst the best young centre backs in Europe.

Nope. Central midfield has been a problem for the last two seasons and still needs sorting. Getting another CB would be stupid especially for that price when we have such a big issue with the lack of quality CM's in the squad and such an abundance of talent at CB.

Well we have been burned by defensive injuries in past seasons (11/12 in particular) but after a good run last season, I'd agree we SHOULD be comfortable there. But there are injury issues over Rio and Vidic, and Smalling has had a bad run with injuries, whilst Jones spent a long while out last season. Even Evans has had issues with minor things. But still five senior centre-backs should do be plenty :nervous:

Also we have Michael Keane who looked good on loan at Leicester - if we don't loan him out again next season, then I'd like to gamble on him being brought into first team contention.
