Evra to Juve?

So can any Juventus watcher explain whats going to happen with Evra? I was under the impression that Asamoah does a good job up and down the left in their system. But if Evra is leaving because he fears he'll be 2nd choice here, why would he be signing for Juventus to be the same?

Asamoah is alright as a Wingback in back 5 but they wanted a proper wing back to upgrade on him anyway, but now they are planning to shift to a back 4 and they feel Asamoah is even less cut out for that.

He's a united legend in my opinion. He was a fantastic player for a while but he's on the way down now (has been for a couple of seasons really).

If he wants to finish his career as first choice in Italy rather than as back-up here then I can understand that. All the best to him.

If Vidal is coming our way then sure, they can have him.

Considering we know they want him I think we can add about 5mil to that price though.

Everyone squeezes the last cent out of us, turnabout it fair play.

I'd really like to think we're giving Evra such an easy ride because we want to smooth the path to bring Vidal the other way...

well the 24 hour thing turned out to be nonsense.... this still happening?

This will happen, too many rumbles from journalists all over for it not to have legs, all I hope is that Juve are at least prepared to listen to offers for Vidal

been not even a rumor of a wisper that vidal had even the slighest thing to do with this deal, thats seems to all be fan speculation.

I really hope we tell Juventus that this only goes through if they allow us to get Vidal (or Pogba). If they are pricks about those moves, we should be pricks about this aswell and not let him join Juve. All respect for Evra, but if Juve are dicks to us, we should tell him he can have his move but not to them. He did sign a one year deal, so technically we're still calling the shots on this.

Disappointed he's leaving but can understand his decision. Don't blame Evra, wanted regular football in his final years as a player and I hope he does well there.

Definitely poses a problem for us now though. We really could have done with Evra as a back up to Shaw and as a mentor. His character will be missed and. letting Rio, Vidic and Evra leave in one window is something we may well regret.

While I agree to an extent. Him signing a new deal, was really us activating another year so we can get a fee for him. He wouldn't have had much say in it. He was looking at his future during last season.

I have a feeling that Evra had been pushing for a move for quite some time. We're just giving it to him since he's not as indispensable as he used to be.

Firstly, I have to assume Juventus have told him he'll be first choice. It makes no sense otherwise. That sucks for Asamoah as from the little I've seen he does a good job for them and defensively I think they'll be weaker with Evra in there. But I'm not picking the team.

So Evra will surely get to be first choice in his final couple of years if he doesn't cock it up.

However, we were keen to keep Evra for one more year and this is the first year since Evra ousted Heinze and we let him go, that Evra finally had some competition. He's been first choice at the club, played far too much as he wanted and would never sit out for Fabio to get games. And he's been first choice when his performances have been completely subpar for a leftback at United, largely because he didn't have that top competition.

Now he finally gets the competition he's off. First choice or the airport.

Best of luck to Evra, he played well at the world cup and had his best season offensively. This suggests he can be a success at Juventus and we might even miss him. But its not great that the first time he has proper competition since he made himself first choice, he wants to up and leave. If everyone in our squad did that when they weren't guaranteed first choice in their position, we'd have nobody left.

Even if he hasn't been given first team reassurances it makes sense. He's 33 and played 45 games last season, hasn't had much of a summer break and the Premier Leagues is a bloody difficult and physically demanding league to play in. Maybe he feels he has the choice of struggling through another season at United or going to Italy where perhaps the difference in pace could see him continue for another two or three, quite comfortably, at a decent standard.

How does that make sense about Evra, who has always wanted to play every week and seems to want to leave because we signed a new leftback?

Sounds like the opposite of the player

What player doesn't want to play every week?

I don't think there's anything unique about him there. All players age. He's 33 and has been rode like a donkey for the last few years in a league that by consensus is the most physically challenging. Why is it so hard to believe maybe he just wants a slower pace of life for the last couple of years of his career? Why must it be some kind of 'leaving because we've signed a new left-back' thing? Maybe he would have stayed if we didn't sign Shaw but that could easily have been to do with not wanting to leave United in the lurch rather than the insinuated "you've replaced me? I'm off!" scenario.

Not every player is dissatisfied with life at United just because they don't want to continue to play in England until they drop.

You just suggested that it makes sense for him to go even if he's not first choice at Juventus, because he played a lot last season, had a world cup and wouldnt get much rest this summer.

We know Evra and he wants to play. What we dont know is his opinion on the premier league and serie A. You're just giving your opinion, not his

We don't "know" Evra at all. You're guessing what his motives are as much as I am. And whose opinion am I supposed to give other than mine?

You're the one making the total assumption that he woudn't go unless promised first team football, I'm just suggesting maybe he's going because he wants a slower pace of life. You can't really make an assumption as to what someone thinks and then claim that any other theory is guesswork, that's incredibly hypocritical.

You have absolutely no idea if Evra wants to play every week. It's not an unreasonable theory to suggest maybe he wanted a bloody rest occasionally last year too. Don't invent someone's motives and then claim someone else is just making something up.

Evra has been our most used player during his time at the club. He clearly wants to play as much as possible which is why others havent been given chances at leftback during his time here. If that wasnt the case we'd have found an alternative solution to playing him more than any other player against his will.

I see you cant accept this.

The only thing you know Ekeke is that you were not involved in Evra's discussions with the club and we hardly know anything regarding this transfer. You can't really be sure of anything yourself, never mind asking another person to accept your version of the transfer.

That doesn't matter imo. He signed the initial contract, so he agreed to us having the option to keep him for another year if we so desire so. We used the option so he still a United player for another year. Now as I said I have all the respect in the world for Evra and if he doesn't want to be second choice for us on the leftback then I fully understand his desire to seek his starting position at another club. But as I said, he is a United player, so we have a say in his destination, the club wouldn't allow a move to a domestic rival (not that Evra would make it, but hyphotecially speaking), so to can we object to a move to Juventus. I want us to object to that move if Juve are dicks to us and become unreasonable about Vidal.

He has been defensively poor in the last 2-3 seasons i worry about this if he actually is joining us. He is terrific going forward though which Juve lack right now so i think the positives out weight the negatives on us signing him so far.

:(:(:( Only Evra replaced so far.

Interesting quotes from Evra...

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Patrice Evra is on the brink of leaving Manchester United for Juventus and it would appear that he has already started to distance himself from Old Trafford.

The French international was wanted by the Italian champions before the World Cup but they took so long to decide if they would offer Evra a contract that he renewed his deal with Manchester United.

But in an unexpected twist, Juventus refused to give up on Evra and seem close to agreeing a deal with United, even though new manager Louis van Gaal is reportedly keen to keep him.

Evra is expected to confirm the switch within the next few days and he has already begun thinking about Italy.

"When they ask me what the best memory of my career is, I don't think about the Champions League triumph with Manchester United," he said on SkySport24.

"I think of my debut as a professional footballer in Italy where I was greeted with great affection when I had only just turned 18."

Evra unsuccessfully attended a trial with Torino before Sicilian side Marsala stepped in to sign him back in 1998.

He then went up to Serie B level when he joined Monza but he only made three appearances and left the club due to a lack of first-team opportunities, heading for Nice, then Monaco and finally Manchester United.

I actually think his attacking play is over-rated as well, his best attributes were his linkup play, his pace and stamina to cover the whole left hand side and funnily enough he was good in the air for such a small guy, he was awesome at it from 06 to 010, his crossing and shooting has always been terrible and now with his age catching up he can't cover the whole length, and if he does , he usually jogs back and leave us defensively exposed, although i love him as a guy, and he is loved and respected a lot within the dressing room, but his actual ability as a player he has declined alot and i wouldn't be sad to let him leave and i would be thrilled, if he plays a part in us getting Vidal.

Presuming this is all true and everybody is OK with it, this is should be a very straight forward transfer. I'm hoping the fact that it's not gone through as predicted over the last couple of days means that there is more to the deal, and we are indeed using him as a bargaining chip...

Patrice Evra has signed the contract to join Juventus. A few minutes ago the French winger completed his transfer to the bianconeri after signing the contract via email from Los Angeles, where he is currently on vacation.

As expected but still awful news :(
He will be missed.

Not sure I like seeing evra go, though good luck to him. Him going really does leave us very thin at lb now, with just shaw who still has to prove that he can step up at United. We will need to likely pick up a cheap backup for the lb spot if not this season, definitely when we get back in the champions league.

Took on the left hand side single handed for years after Giggs came inside. Cheerio Paddy.

Looking at the positive side. At least now when we verse Spurs Lennon won't look like a world beater :)
