Ever Banega

Apparently he was class for Argetina tonight. He would definitely make an impact here but dunno if Fergie fancies him at all!

If the media are to be believed we are only looking at Modric and Sneijder when it comes to CM's.

It's strange that there is no indication that any club are interested in him because he's one of the best midfielders around in his position.

Ekeke knows probably more but I have never heard anything negative about him.

IMO he would fit in perfectly in our line up. It's nearly comical how his style is similar to Scholes. Someone mention before that he would be perfect alongside Ando and I agree with that. And on top of that he's hard working and combative.

Or is it that Sir Alex is reluctant to buy players from Argentina?

He played very high up in the pitch since Albania had no real pressure on; somewhat reminiscent to the Rooney as of late. Was always available for a pass and linked up well with his forwards.

Again, he's a locksmith. He can picklock anything thrown at him with a couple of quick one-twos and the utilisation of his vision.

Yeah he did play further forward, like a Xavi or Iniesta for Barcelona. As you say this is because of the opposition and because he was playing in a 3 man midfield with Mascherano and Biglia, then Mascherano and Gago - meaning the midfield was going to rely on Banega to find the front players in dangerous positions

He played well like all the Argentina players. I'm hoping someone will post up his individual highlights on youtube - they normally do.

I have sent an email to the club marked FAO Sir Alex with a message from everyone in the transfer forum at Red Cafe to sign Ever Banega :D

I am sure this will do the trick.

I can just see the newspaper article now.

"Fans demand United sign Argentine midfielder"

It wont happen till we make Ever Banega to Manchester United a trending topic on twitter. You know what to do

Or manufacture quotes from him claiming Heinze has spoken to him of the majesty of the club and it would be an honour etc.

The complete lack of links with us to CMs is a bit bizarre. The talk about Modric, Sneijder and Nasri doesn't appear to have any substance at all and I can't see us going for any of them. You'd hope lads like this are on our radar. I guess whatever we're doing in the market in terms of CMs we've done pretty well to keep quiet. The signings of Young, De Gea and Jones all came from pretty much nowhere until they were nearly nailed on for completion, so I'm optimistic. I think we'll get a well regarded CM but not one of the three aforementioned from the muppet wank bank.

No they didn't! But yeah I do agree that they were more secretive than other clubs' pursuit of players.. I guess it had much to do with the fact that we have been after these 2 since a long time.. So bits and pieces of the news broke out sooner than expected... Jones however was absolutely discreet until news of him having a medical with us were released..

I am kind of optimistic that we haven't been linked with him as 99% of press speculation is complete horse crap anyway. It's like all you have to be good at to be a sports reporter these days is have a good grasp of fiction.

Yeah, it's weird. Right now it seems we're in the market for Varane only who would be our 375th centre-back and I'm definitely worried that Fergie plans to go into the new season with the same paper-thin central midfield that's been our Achilles heel for two (you could say three) seasons now.

Well its not the same now is it? It has been depleted further..

Out:
Scholes
Gibson (Soon to leave)
Hargreaves (Barely played)

In:
Cleverley (More suited to the wings as of now)
Jones (More of a CB)

there's no suitable DM's about, i think fergie has a new thought to play CB's in midfiled LOL

Fergie knows best, but if we near August with still no CM signing, I'm going to be very very edgy :nervous:

I think it's a lack of really suitable CM's out there. I'm sure Fergie would prefer to find a 20-21 year old up and comer that can start to contribute now, be molded in Fergie's image, and be the core of the next great United side 5-7 years down the road, along with DeGea, Jones, and some of the current young guys. But it would seem that he's been looking for that for a few years now. We'd hoped it might be Anderson or Gibson, but both are looking increasingly less likely.

It's not like Fergie to spend 50 million on a couple of 25 year olds, which is what it would amount to if we were to add Sneijder or Modric to the probable Young signing.

I think it's the lack of insight media have in our negotiations that makes our summer relatively quiet. No?

They're all irrelevant. Non-entities.

Central midfielders are the only players that exist this summer.

Its surprising that Banega isn't more sought after this summer. Would you rate him better then Pastore?

Can't really judge Pastore as I haven't watched him play other than the odd youtube videos but I really like Banega's style of play. He seems comfortable in a central two, loves dictating play, has vision and creativity, his passing is very good and he's not afraid to get stuck in and be aggressive. Exactly what we need.

Is it due to Banega's off-the-field issue that is concerning United? Ekeke or anyone care to share about this?

[complain]He's way too good for us to be interested.[/complain]

But seriously, we seem to avoid the obviously talented midfielders for some reason, even if they are clearly very good. This might be some sort of a wind-up from Fergie.

Ekeke!

You have to change your plans for today. Forget about a siesta or dating Signoritas. Visit Manuel Llorente Martín and tell him that you have an offer he can't refuse. The Café are on a mission. Bring Banega to the Theater of Dreams!

Exceptions rather than the norm. Young has not signed (yet) and Jones was pretty much a quiet deal up until lately. In contrast, none knew about the Chicharito deal until it was almost done.

Maradona brought them both into his Argentina squad before the world cup. Banega was then left out like Cambiasso and Zanetti - inexcusable error. Pastore was selected for the world cup

Then the world cup happened... Maradona was sacked. His replacement immediately brings Zanetti, Cambiasso and Banega into not just the squad but as first team starters and things have turned around with Argentina looking great, beating top international sides and Messi looking as he should do in an Argentina shirt.

In a way Pastore has been the one hurt by Banega taking his chance when he was brought in and solidifying himself as one of Argentina's better players. Because under Maradona Pastore was on the fringes of being a starter in midfield. Now the midfield is a solid selection of Mascherano, Cambiasso and Banega. Pastore has been given a couple of chances by the new manager too, but Biglia is being picked in midfield more often than he is when one of the starters are rested. The last time I saw Pastore given a chance he was used on the wing in an experimental team where few of the starters played

I dont know but that might be an indication that the new manager feels Pastore is more of an option on the wing than in midfield now, backing up Di Maria and Messi when Tevez or Lavezzi start. However Messi has played through the middle this season, there's always the chance that he could play there for Argentina with Di Maria and Pastore wide

Personally I believe Mascherano and Banega to be solid enough to have Pastore play in midfield next to them. Whether the new manager agrees with that I dont know, but Cambiasso remains far more in favour regardless

What are you on about? what on Earth does "exceptions rather than the norm" have to do with this

You called it a "quiet summer" and yet it's June 22nd and we've already sorted 3 players. In fact, NOTHING in your post above makes any sense whatsoever
