Evan Ferguson - Top Irish Prospect

I think this bloke would have to show a bit more before the big boys part with any serious money.

As an Irishman I’d rather he stayed at Brighton a bit longer and grow in a stable environment. While ETH looks to finally be the manager we have needed, the club has been a basket case for a decade and I am slightly concerned that if Sheik saudi takes over we may get more of a circus PSG style club then a more stable city structure.
Stable City? They are being investigated for cheating with threat of relegation!

The only risk to Brighton is letting him go cheap. If he develops like he has next 2 seasons he be worth over £100m minimum in my opinion. The money Brighton paid for him was minimal. The only way he will develope is with Brighton as we can offer regular playing time.

There’s absolutely a risk to Brighton of turning down very lucrative bids for a player who might not turn out to be worth that kind of money.

So if United buy him for a fee that Brighton would accept then that’s “an enormous risk” for the selling club. Yet you’re not even alluding to the possibility of a risk for Brighton of not accepting a slightly lower fee for a player who may end up flattering to deceive.

At the end of the day all that any of us are quibbling over is the price. And time will tell regarding whether he be a player worthy of a top dollar fee, or an also ran who should have been cashed in on during the early hype.

I say this as an Irish football fan who thought Spurs would make a fortune out of Troy Parrott at some point. That’s still just about possible but it’s equally possible Spurs will regret not cashing in when his stock was at its highest.

Thank you for the reply mate. I fear you may have misread my reply. Actually I said it was “an enormous risk” for the buying club. Thank you for your response though.

Smart thing to do is buy him and loan him back to Brighton for another year.
This is not a smart thing to do. This is pissing away a transfer budget on something that will have no tangible impact on what we can field next season.

And also why will Brighton entertain that, they have ambitions and from the money they get, they would love to sign and develop their own player.

I have no reason to believe the club are lying…

Another(!) new contract is possible to increase his wages, but I don’t think it changes a thing in terms of the transfer fee.

Perhaps not directly, but a new and improved contract would make an attempt to pry away Ferguson from Brighton at least slightly less successful for the two and I suspect only two clubs who would realistically be in for him this summer: United and Spurs.

The case for United's interest in Ferguson is straightforward, but one can imagine that a move to a "top four" club may be viewed a bridge too far, too fast from Evan's own point of view. My proposal to make such a move more appealing to the boy himself is for United to bring in both Kane and Ferguson (yes, this would require total transfer outlay of around 160m...but United literally have zero strikers we can count on) so that the boy is properly nurtured at a club which is in a great place and has, at least in my view, a realistic chance of winning major trophies over the next few seasons; and, more importantly by the time Ferguson is ready to be a regular starter for a (hopefully) dominant club like United, at the age of 21 or so, Kane will be phased down and soon out. And even if the day when Ferguson is a regular starter for United has to wait until he's 22, that's still another 10-12 seasons when he will possibly be the marquee player for the biggest club in the world, possibly only exceeded in global exposure by Real and Barcelona.

The case for Tottenham's interest is obvious, but I if I were a member of young' Evan's inner circle I would caution him against going to a floundering club whose future is cloudy at best but even if it becomes sunny by June, immediately following in the footsteps of Harry Kane could be perilous. Putting a 19 year old straight into that situation is a bad idea.

Another season at Brighton may be the best decision for the boy right now. If he grows into the kind of statute that Haaland attained by 19 (Ferguson might even better than Haaland was at 19) offers from big clubs will be there, and perhaps by then those offers will come from Real, or perhaps even City in the event Haaland becomes bored with the EPL and moves to Real, as some expect is inevitable. On the other hand, if an opportunity to go to United presents itself it would be hard, and possibly risky, to pass up on it.

As for the transfer, which I'm finally addressing since I bolded your statement, there is no doubt now that it would somewhere between 60-100m. I don't follow Brighton's financial situation but even if we assume it's in league of Newcastle or Villa (seems unlikely, but I have no idea), if an offer of 75m is put on the table and if the player himself expresses a desire to leave, it's hard to imagine a deal not getting done.

He’s really good. I’d fast track a move for him this summer honestly

Starting to think he might be the real deal and not just an Irish player being pumped up because he's decent from an Irish squad point of view

All the best parts of Messi and Ronaldo, with the lethal finishing of Ruud. And he's a childhood Man Utd fan. Sign him up !

I think this is the type of singing SAF would be all over. Sometimes you need to take a risk on a player.

If he didn't play for Brighton I'd say we should 100% sign him

Sadly though Brighton price their players at a ridiculous amount and I'm thinking 100 mil they'd ask for would be too risky

We need to buy him as soon as possible. I would honestly prioritise him over Kane.

He may be 18 but he is a Rooney like 18 in that he is ready now and will give us years of top class service

Feck this 4231 nonsense, let's just sign him and Kane and go back to 442.

Him and Kane would make too much sense. I’d rather 120m on the two of them than 120m on Osimhen.

He's still a teenager, not sure it would be great for his development to have millions of idiots slating him online for being a Brighton Tax Banter Player the first time he misses a chance, even if Brighton were willing to sell.

Great age, looks a proper handful, top finisher and he's a Utd fan as well.

Maybe we skip Kane and go get him. Levy no doubt is only going to mess us about anyway.

Kane + this boy would make so much sense. Learn off of him for a few years, take over after 2/3 seasons then break his goalscoring record in 15-20 years time

Everyone just wanting to sign this guy but does he fit with the way Ten Hag wants to play?

Yep. Especially if the Qatari group buys the club. Do this duo and the stage is set for both to achieve great things.
