EU Referendum Results Thread | Leave have won, Cameron resigns

How did you vote to this: Should the United Kingdom remain a member of the EU or leave the EU?

  • Remain a member of the European Union

    Votes: 321 75.5%
  • Leave the European Union

    Votes: 80 18.8%
  • Spoiled ballot

    Votes: 24 5.6%

  • Total voters
    425
  • Poll closed .
Awkward fact is that Leave correlates with lack of education and qualifications.

And concerns about immigration are founded upon racism.

e.g If you are so concerned about the pressure from immigration, why vote to crash the economy which will lead to even less money to spend on schools. It works as an argument by preying on prejudice.
I have GCSE's, A Levels and I'm starting studying a degree come September. Many people in my area are the same, saying that everyone who has voted out don't have the same levels of intelligence as people voting in is hilarious. Plus let's say for example someone has a degree in something like English Literature, does that mean they know more about politics than someone else? I highly doubt that.

So this means

  • UK leaving the EU leading to years of negotiations
  • Scotland potentially leaving
  • Boris Johnson as PM
  • Disintegration of the EU
  • World Economic Crisis

Well done Cameron for risking it all.

So you're a fecking teenager?! Jesus Christ.

Seriously one day you'll understand life is more complicated than what it seems. You don't run away from problems and this is exactly what Britain did tonight.

Opportunity isn't losing jobs. The European market is the opportunity to venture out and make jobs, innovate with new technology, use EU funding to drive research etc etc.

You are really not understanding what is about to happen. Peoples lives including working class people, are about to get much worse.

Don't waste your time. He will be shat on just as much as you and i. Perhaps when it hits his ego might shrink.

Yes. Scotland will leave in my view. And Cameron cannot stay, and Osborne is toxic. Emergency budget anyone?
Probably get voted down by Tory rebels, unless Labour helped (not likely).

Could potentially lead to Cameron/Osborne deciding they could no longer govern and calling an election.

Everything has gone to shit.

That's about all I can make of it. Never dreamed there'd be a Leave vote. Madness.

Racism and xenophobia is a large explanation for why people have voted the way they have.

People who feel the economy isn't working for them blaming those from other countries/races for their problems. This isn't a new or novel occurrence in human history.

Really. Explain how you have come to that conclusion

Hang on, so you're saying that people who voted out are all old. Yet my opinion shouldn't count because I'm young? That is just brilliant. If you all want to make your minds up on who should be voting let me know, yeah?

What's the odds on a Scottish referendum this year?

it would be stupid for them to do it now.

Sturgeon should go to Brussels, she should negotiate a deal with the EU on Scotland's behalf and then return to London asking for another referendum.

I'm convinced Cameron will go down as the PM who made one of the worst mistakes in British History. Legacy Secured.

The one positive to come out of this is the utter embarrassment with which he'll be remembered.

This is level 1 analysis though. What you are ignoring is what makes us the 5th biggest economy. All the huge corps who have European HQs in London. There is a genuine risk that they move. Then our economy goes to the pan and no one literally will give a flying feck.
Heard head of Morgan Stanley talking about the possible need to move headquarters to Dublin or Frankfurt as a result of this. Despite the problems this presents for Ireland, it also presents quite a few opportunities.

You do realize that one of the skills used in obtaining a degree is one of critical reasoning?

I'm saying its clear as day you don't have a clue what you're talking about and given your age that's pretty normal.

These are general trends. For example graduates are hugely more likely to vote remain than those with no qualifications. That's of course not to say you cannot be an informed, educated person voting Leave.

I cannot believe my country is full of moronic half wits. Sorry but it's really hard to stay calm and politically correct when we now know that more than half the country evaluated the evidence and fecked us up long and short term anyway.

Britain leaving the EU might actually be good. Decreasing foreign investments may mean things like housing will actually be affordable to the average citizen. Y'all agree? Or am I just misguided...

  this is one of the funniest things I've read in a long time. To even think that this level of qualifications and experience (primarily the latter) means you are in any way an informed voter is laughable.

Can you think of many places of work which don't require critical reasoning? I mean come on if there is a job so easy that it doesn't require you to have common sense sign me up.

Hopefully Woody sent our 40m euros yesterday because otherwise Mkhitaryan has just gotten a lot more expensive.

So you're a fecking teenager?! Jesus Christ.

Oh dear, how patronising. But wait you're not one of them OAP racists are you? I'm confused because you sound like an OAP but you voted remain? How does that work?

Note the subtle hints of sarcasm here.

It's at its worst in decades for feck's sake.

Of course it will be. It's the night of the bloody referendum and the UK looks to be leaving. That means people like you lot everywhere are panicking and predicting global destruction..

It's how things tail off that matter.

You clearly don't understand what I'm saying.

You asked if a person with an English degree would have a good understanding of this political topic. I'm saying that the average person with a college degree will have better critical reasoning skills than you do... So in short, yes, they'd know better than you.
