Lukaku is a Center Forward that tends to move about a bit more than CF's usually do. His first and foremost skill includes opening up running lanes for teammate with his movement, and is a man you play the ball to to move it into the final third area due to his ability to handle the ball with help from his larger than average physique. Lukaku tends to take the ball to the 16m box and look for a quick pass. His weakness is first and foremost ball handling ability and pass accuracy. Lukaku is also in his prime and is not likely to develop any of his current skills that we are aware of. He's also not very defensively responsible and rarely makes a challenge in the defensive zone, then again he IS a forward. Lukaku is a very useful player, but primarily in a team that needs someone to carry the ball into the final third.
Haaland is first and foremost, a skyrocketing developing teenager. He still has time to develop parts of hi game to massive, or no improvement. Haaland differs from Lukaku in that he does NOT want to be the guy you play the ball to to hold it, but he rather wants to cut inside defenders and find pockets of space behind the defensive line for through balls. Finding that space and making himself available for a through ball is one of his biggest strength, that spatial awareness that will yield him a high amount of xDanger shots. In fact, Haaland almost never shoots outside the 16m box. If he shoots, its almost always a high xDanger stat shot. If Haaland gets behind the defenders in either a blind zone or in a spacial pocket, defenders can't do a lot unless they put in a slide tackle, he' just too strong for most to push off the ball. Haaland excels at playing through ball to his teammates, excels in transitional play, and enjoys having more focus on him, thereby allowing himself to create chances for teammates that will run into open passing lanes. He's a very good dribbler, great passing, and extremely unselfish.
The primary differences between Lukaku and Haaland is: Ball handling ability, how they use the space and passing lanes, role in tranitional and open play, foot quality (Haaland scores with both feet and head), shooting %, passing%, xDanger chances created and defensive responsibilities (Haaland is often in the back helping out the defensive side, only to rush up the pitch, outrunning nearly anyone in football on the quick break)
Lukaku netted 15 goals in 45 contests last year. Obviously Haaland has shattered that, but even if most of his goals are from Austria, 8 of them came in the Champions League against Liverpool, Genk and Napoli.
