So a 50M release clause plus a share of sell on fees to his father and Raiola. No wonder united walked away.

Dortmund are the right kind of club for those stepping stone deals.
 
God knows why Ole didn’t deny interest the other week, he was chuckling along with reporters as if it was a done deal.

A release clause wouldn’t do anything for what United need, mate. It would force us to sell if the conditions are met, so it makes perfect sense that we wouldn’t go along with it. Your comment makes no sense.

If all this is true then Dortmund have been bent over but if he wins them the German title then it will have been worth it. Can't see the 50m release clause being true though because they'd recoup next to nothing and his only value would be as a sporting one.

I'm sure we were interested, it's certainly not Ole's job to tell the world Haaland was signing for Dortmund though

Dortmund's top earner is Reus, supposedly on €10-12m a year gross wages. You're quoting a guy who either thinks Dortmund are going to make Haaland their top earner by a mile or who is incapable of distinguishing between gross and net.
 
If all that is true about the release clause and agent fees then I'm glad we said no. Sad we missed out, but you can't be giving in to those kind of demands if you're actually looking to build something.

Other tweets say it is 6m net going up in two years to 8m. Like you say think he is having a problem with tax.
 
Ah well, Dortmund got themselves a decent player but at the expense of knowing their a stepping stone club that will lose him in a season or two. Wouldn’t be surprised if we had some sort of deal in place verbally for a couple of seasons depending on how he progresses. Wouldn’t be the first time we’ve played the long game to get a player we want, and when he’s ready for the PL.

To summarize these very informative tweets. Dortmund pay €45m upfront, shatter their wage structure by promising him roughly 133% of Reus' wages and then give him a release clause that caps their profit at €5m - minus a cut for the player's entourage of course. I mean it could be true, who knows.

You could see why they'd ask for such a low release clause. Imagine their commissions if a 150m player was moving for 50m! Will have to see what Di Marzio has to say because he's had a direct line to Raiola in the past.
 
So many sad bastards in this thread. Get over it now, the stuff I am reading is incredible at times. This isn't the first time a player will choose another club over us.

I could also see Raiola asking for a five dollar release clause, what I don't see is any club signing a 19 year old from Salzburg with zero chance at turning a profit.

It does seem unlikely. The only possible reason would be because they rate him so highly as a footballer that they think he could take them that next step to wining the title.

At the moment Favre uses two dribblers (Sancho/Hazard) out wide and Reus as a #10/#9 hybrid who links up play centrally and then drives forward into the striker role. I don't think they're strong enough precedent, tbh. I wouldn't call Hanke really tall when compared to Balotelli & especially Haaland. Also, as I remember it, he played a very mobile & flexible forward role under Favre, which I think is something of a basic requirement. He was at least as much a supporting player as a goalscorer (8 goals in his very good 11/12 season, Reus did the heavy lifting in that department).

De Camargo was okay-ish (and a decent overall footballer), but he only scored 13 goals (9 in BL) in more than two seasons under Favre. Not a blueprint for Haaland either, imo. I'd still say Balotelli is the only successful precedent of a CF similar to Haaland's built over a longer time. We'll see what happens.

Your assessment of the Favre situation is very plausible. I hope he and the team still manage a turnaround in consistency, but it's less than certain.

If you're that desperate for a title you sign 30 year olds (e.g. Mertens or Vidal), not 19 year olds who will probably need some time to adapt to a new league. I could easily see some form of promise that they will look at good offers a couple of year down the line, like with Sancho, but this is far too much of a financial risk for Dortmund to set a low cap on the profits. Not to mention abandoning their no release clause policy.
