Erik ten Hag vs Sancho | Sancho back in full training

Talk about player power. The club are paying him thousands to do a job. If they can not do anything about it maybe something should be written into contracts to give the club some power to do so.
It's amazing if they genuinely can't - I mean turning up on time for work should surely be part of the contract? Perhaps the club should adopt a policy of publishing any club fines as and when they are issued...

Because what's even more abusrd is that the fan base/public opinion is somehow split on backing Ten Hag/Sancho, so the club are trying to spin the media in Ten Hag's favour. The issue is more of a question of why is that even a problem and why the feck are people so adamant on defending Sancho?

You would think by now we would have learnt our lesson and stopped backing our players over the manager, based on past experience.

Have United fans ever not backed the manager over players?

I might be wrong, but generally speaking United fans tend to support a manager long after their expiration date - and people tend to be relatively OK with moving on players

I'm possibly becoming an old fart and might be out of touch with reality but feck me if any of us did this at work we'd have a warning/be fired the next day. feck me, do we have some prima donnas playing for us
I’d suggest players like Sancho are out of touch with reality. Imagine no one ever told you that going to bed early and getting up early on a school night is an expectation for you to be good at your job, and then one day, when you were 23, someone dropped that bombshell on you?

Everyone around you who’s leaching off you saying “nah, you seem fine to me mate, the manager doesn’t know what he’s talking about”.

What are you supposed to think?

Don’t the players and the club together usually come up with a policy for handling lateness, red cards etc? Seems to be more of a voluntary thing as a team building exercise than rather a right for the clubs to take the players salaries.

Don’t they usually use the ‘pot’ at the end of year for the party or whatever?

Maybe if the man child had done what he was paid for last season, he may have earned the number 7 this season over Mount.

Yeah, but there must come a point where repeat offending turns something from an informal fine to an actual disciplinary breach.

I don't know why you guys keep quipping about him not making the national side - everyone knows he's underperformed and I don't think I've stated or implied otherwise. I simply think it's weirdo behaviour to pick up pitchforks because a player went to a birthday party on his time off.

"Look at him not working on his day-off "

The way you guys speak about football players has undertones that make me uncomfortable and I just can't get on board with - that's not to say he can't be criticised for not performing on the pitch, and supposedly in training - according to the manager, but when people start posting pictures of players in their personal time with the purpose of rallying up vitriol towards them - I think that's the point a sensible adult would say "eh, we're jumping into weirdo territory here"
Fantastic post. Agree 100%

The way some go on you’d think they’d be happiest if the club had no players, although then they would rage at the clubs incompetence for not fulfilling fixtures.

I'd rather play a committed and hungry youngster than somebody on £350k per week who can't be arsed to turn up to training on time.
You’re watching the wrong team my friend. Our club hasn’t been interested in committed and hungry young players since 2013. It’s all about big name galacticos and advertising appearance revenues now. :wenger:

But they don’t win anything because that isn’t their focus. They focus on the individuals instead of the team. No successful team follows the dortmund model.

I think most teams in Europe would be glad to get results like Dortmund.

Yes they're a definitive tier below Bayern and clubs of that size but they're regular runners up and had plenty of spells where the collective team play was really what was shining. Almost got a title last year, even, certainly gotten much closer that United has in a while.

Arguably getting the best out of young players is why they're so high and any (supposed) difference in discipline is not why they're trailing Bayern who has plenty of "off field issues" themselves.

I'd say by almost all metrics (except some of the commercial power) they're a better run club than United since SAF left. Our excuse is that we are a top club playing honours every year... except we don't have the silverware to show for it.

No matter how the media paints it there's no way back for Sancho. At least not with ten Hag in charge. He's s manager with a strong hand and after all the chances Sancho had even with that 2 month break and post that on social media was the last straw. He isn't even performing so he can't play the "manager doesn't like me" card.

It's over hopefully Saudi Arabia comes soon.

I mean look at it this way : If having a personal assistant cuddle Sancho and wake him up to make sure he's at Carrington at 9am sharp was the difference between being the sorry ghost of a forward he has been for us or performing at 75% of his Dortmund form... Would we really care about all the immaturity / personal responsibility arguments ?

It's obviously a bit more complicated than that (otherwise I'm sure United would have indulged already) to sort him out & it does fall within his lap to be proactive to partly an extent.

Sancho was finished here long before any fall out. Based on performances on the pitch alone.

Yep, I think he just doesn't like the physicality of the PL. I dont necessarily mean this in a negative way, but he could be similar to Kagawa, who also had an incredible scoring record before he moved here. And he certainly wasn't lacking in effort, but sometimes that isn't enough to succeed in this league. I don't think Jadon suddenly became lazy, but more likely that when he realized he couldn't replicate his old form here, he let his head drop on the pitch.

I remember him being frozen out of the squad and getting fined a couple of times for missing training sessions and stuff like that. The warning signs were there before he joined us.

It doesn't help, but isn't the sole reason why he hasn't been good. It's how he acts when things aren't going well.

I do agree with this. A similar thing happened with Pogba when he was at United.

His Twitter statement said it all, “I just want to play football with a smile on my face.”

To quote a famous Italian ***********: “They don’t want to play with pressure. They don’t want to play with stress. Ah ya, it’s easy, in this way.”

Pogba. Lukaku. Rashford. Martial. Sancho.

I think he'll take a pragmatic approach to the situation, if Sancho apologies or they resolve their differences and he performs in training and matches, he'll be back. It doesn't seem like ETH views this as a mistake he can't come back from. As much as the situation is frustrating for the fans, this situation is not all that uncommon in football. I think you're looking at a situation similar to Ronaldo's interview for actions you can't recover from. I don't think Sancho will step up but I think he'll have the opportunity to do so

You're right Ronaldo's case was way different. It wasnt a tweet it a whole interview shitting all over the club. Sancho's actions is not nearly as severe as Ronaldo's ideally there's a way back for him if he takes the challenge fires up and starts performing in trainnings and games. But I just do see Sancho as that type of player, I know mental health is important etc but last season event of him going 2 months and returing without any improvement makes me think he just doesnt have it. He's not a temperamental player.

Lazy cnut can’t even get to training in time

We’ll end up paying him 200k a week to play for Villa next season

And that was identified by how he spent his days off? As that is what I'm talking about.
You don't think it's possible to get an idea of how serious somebody is about their footballing career through the way they spend their free time, social media content etc etc? Obviously you can't draw conclusions from that on its own, but it, along with numerous other factors, contributes to building a picture of someone. Similarly if Sancho seemed committed on the football pitch, was performing well, and hadn't just called his manager a liar on Twitter do you think anyone would have given a shit about how he spent the last few days?

Yes, you are emotional. Your posts carry a hostile undertone, in fact - this whole hoopla is about people reacting emotionally to a player not using their time-off in the manner they think he should. Appeals at other posters for corroboration mean nothing when half of the people don’t even know what they’re replying to - and there’s also people in this thread saying similar to what I’m saying.

Look at him not at Carrington on his day off  He surely doesn’t want to put things right. He’d rather feck off to a birthday party instead of doing drills when he’s authorised to be off - if it was me I’d clock in at dawn. What would you think of your colleague was off to a birthday bash on his time-off? He’s not even Haaland or KDB

Yeah, those are sensible takes, most assuredly.
Most rational people wouldn't care less what players get up to on their days off. I don't agree with some of the things that were said about that myself. Only points i do agree with, and that you are failing to grasp, is that the optics around the trip are ill-judged. Can't you even admit that's the case here? Or is it a case of, give every player carte blanche over how they should act when their professionalism is questioned? And by the manager and previous managers no less. These players are in an industry where you are judged, fairly or not. It comes with the territory of playing professional sports. I find it odd that you are questioning a posters emotional state on an internet forum. Hostile undertones/passive aggressive behaviour is some shit to sling around, when i have personally invested a lot of money over the years supporting a team. Frustrated/disappointed, yes, but emotional and aggressive which you are insinuating is wide of the mark. Maybe you should look inwards yourself.

Surely the No7 to Sancho business has to be BS. When we signed Sancho, Cavani was wearing it, signing Ronaldo hadn't even entered anyones head and we had to ask the PL for permission to change Cavani's squad number for Ronaldo to get 7.
