Erik ten Hag | Currently unemployed

Players (especially this group) have had too much power for ages. It’s always the manager who gets sacked as it’s easier/much cheaper to replace them over several players.

If the right manager comes in and ends up binning half of them, keeping the ones with the right attitude and replacing the rest with keen buys and United youth… I’d be all for it.

(That applies to Ten Haag and Poch).

Any manager who doesn’t have the support of the players cannot be the ‘right’ manager. Be that ETH, Klopp, Pep or whoever. Ultimately, the job is to get a tune out of them. Not saying ETH can’t or that I wouldn’t like him to come, but if I learned that the dressing room was not as keen as me, that would dampen my expectations a bit is all.

I think them being desperate for Poch, if the case, increases the likelihood of such a marriage working out.

When would we be announcing the new manager if we do recruit one? I hope he gets the full pre-season with us

If he's as talented as everyone says, really hope we get it sorted early.

If he becomes the mananer and does well, he will be called The Magician. Only because every time I look at him I can't not think of Ray Shoesmith.

His tactics seem extremely similar to those of Pep and Arteta.

I think he'd be a great hire for United so long as the club is willing to back him, not just in the market but also against any players that might give him trouble. These systems require all players to be of a high technical level and, just as if not more importantly, to be willing to buy into a very structured approach and subordinate their own thoughts about the game to the system. There is a reason Pep had to bin off 2/3 of the squad he inherited at City within the first couple years and Arteta even more of his squad.

At United there are going to be a bunch of very high profile big players who just won't fit this system. Ronaldo (if he stays around) no way. Bruno while world class is potentially a very awkward fit, as he wants too much freedom to move around the pitch and by nature he is such a risk taker in attack. Rashford doesn't seem like a great fit either, doesn't work hard enough off the ball and is again too direct and not enough of a combination player with the ball. Maguire is too slow on the turn to play an aggressive high line consistently. Wan Bissaka no way. Shaw has all the tools in theory but whether he is disciplined enough to really do exactly what he is asked positionally and situationally I don't know.

Rumors are he wants to bring in his assistant, Mitchell Van Der Gaag. Aparently he is the reason Ajax have improved defensively so much under him. When he was coaching Excelsior, he had one of the best defenses in the Eredevise. He also has an offer to become the manager of Basel. So he has to make a decision between being assistant manager at Manchester United or become manager at Basel.

Who is Mitchell van der Gaag, assistant Ten Hag reportedly wants to bring to Manchester United

I really enjoyed learning that Van der Gaag has "a grounding in British football" because he played at Motherwell from 1995 to 1997. I imagine that will be enormously helpful if you become assistant manager in the EPL in 2022. :D

I’m glad you guys are getting your wish and it’s good the fans feelings and the clubs vision are starting to align a bit more. I don’t know much about his work outside of the CL which has been impressive. I understand he’s the outstanding candidate but like anything. If it can fail it most likely will here. He’s going to be have to be some manager to work around these owners and players and be successful. If he’s allowed to streamline the squad and sign borderline world class quality we’ll be great again. It’s all just still far too unfocused and wasteful and we’ve got so much left to do before we are a top team again. It will probably still take years even if we even stick with him that long.

Please be true. Is Mokbel considered accurate these days ? If he doesnt go here bet you all City will snap him when Guardiola eventually moves on.

If Van der Vaart’s views on Maguire are the general Dutch consensus then he will be terrified at this happening!

Do it you bastards.

Murtough will be a club legend in my book if he gets both Rangnick, follows up with Ten Hag and gets us competing at the top again.

Robert Martinez played at Motherwell and he’s now in charge of Belgium :)

The rumors that we are going for Erik following Pochettino’s camp ruling themselves out makes me think this is heading in the right direction.

I seriously worry about the current team being suited to his style while the current team is a tailor fit for Poch.

Bruno in a possesion style scares the hell out of me and we dont have a forward to hold the ball up top. Full backs are also average and we need a dribbler who can play from right (with a left foot).

I do prefer ETH above Poch though.

Finally we may have our very own Pep Guardiola is my idol but i’m fine with Pochettino too to be honest. Two really good and available managers who will do good things here for the club

Correct me if I am wrong but ETH isnt the type to want possession only football. He likes to knock it about in certain areas of the pitch sure, but in the final third he likes to move quickly with direct play. @AjaxCunian or another resident Ajax /Dutch league poster is best to confirm or deny that though.

If I am right then I think Bruno can suit him just fine. He has a great way of sharpening players and maximising their best attributes as with Tadic and Haller. I have little doubt he would sharpen Bruno.

These posts scare me. Nothing has insinuated him to be a front runner really.

I think there is a lot of work to do on the squad in terms of incomings and outgoings but if we look at Liverpool it took them the best part of three years before they began to look like the team they are. So decisions, some of them unpopular, will need to be made and I just hope the club has the stomach to back the manager, be it Poch or ETH, through the process.

Whoever we sign, I hope we back him by signing the right players! The squad we have now is nowhere near good enough and we desperately need midfielders, a good striker, wingers and right back.

Here we go, here we go! I believe! Cocks out, boys!
Hold your horses! Some of the noise is likely from ETH camp to single hed take it if offered. I wouldn't be surprised if Pochs camp did the same before the end of the season and the pendulum of article noise swings the others way.

No. Poch will either get knocked out by Real Madrid in Spain and we will lose interest, or win against Real Madrid and become their manager in the summer.

Win-win scenario for us. This is what I want to believe, so I do.

Manchester United board will make a competent decision? No way. Will believe it when I see it.

While I personally would be pleased if he were appointed, there is a (small) part of me that feels that Poch would be the right choice and that is mainly due to reports that the players want him. You can get any hipster coach in the world, but ultimately, if the players are not having him, then he will be a guaranteed failure. I don’t think the importance of the players being firmly behind a manager should be underestimated, and if Poch is who they believe in - it should be a massive boost to his chances.
Players wanting Poch is the main reason why we shouldnt be going for him. If true of course.

Fernandez and Laird. Also, Shaw has some football in him if he's motivated! Dalot is a decent backup if so.

Amad.

We have great players in the academy and on loan if we have a coach who is brave enough to use them. I don't rate our first-team squad that high, a lot of players who don't fit into modern football IMO. We do need a new striker though.

Based on what? One rumour report that suggested Real like him? Theres no smoke about that, it was an easy article to write after Real lost.

There is a feckton more that points to United wanting Poch than Real do.

Maybe the first sign that footballing decisions are left to Murtough, Rangnick and other footballing people at the club?
