Erik ten Hag | Currently unemployed

Tbh I don't see how we don't have a big turnover. At least with outgoings. Question marks over all of these in whatever capacity:
  • Henderson
  • Wan Bissaka
  • Jones
  • Tuanzebe
  • Brandon Williams
  • Bailly
  • Matic
  • Pogba
  • Mata
  • Van de beek
  • Pereira
  • Lingard
  • Ronaldo
  • Cavani
  • Rashford
  • Martial
  • Chong
  • Pellistri
  • Amad
Of course, a chunk of these (maybe 5) will probably just go out on loan again, and I doubt Rashford, Martial, Van de Beek, Matic and Wan bissaka are going anywhere. That's still 9 players out though!
Most of the questions marks won't be transferred IMO.

Chong isn't even worth considering tbh.

Our squad was already bloated though wasn't it?
So 9 out, 4-5 in I'm assuming

It is and if we add 4-5 then we should get rid of 13-14 players. We currently have 38 players in the first team, that's in itself completely daft.

The obvious ones like Pogba, Mata, Lingard etc will leave. The question is how many of the not so straightforward ones like Martial etc will be sold. We tend to sell players 3 years after they've become useless to us.

There we go - so it's more bloated than I thought.

Definite outs include: Pogba, Lingard, Mata, Cavani, Grant

Players sold or sent on loan are likely: Williams, Menji, Pereira, Amad, Pellistri, Tuanzebe.

Matic I think might stay another year but from the above thats 5 exiting the club and a further 6 going on loan. Might justify 4 incoming transfers. That's before we consider what he does with the likes of Jones/Heaton/Baily etc.

Hopefully we sell all the players that receive good offers until we reach 14 players leaving the club. The exceptions being Sancho, Bruno, Fred, Varane, Dalot, Lindelof, Shoretire, Amad, Pellestri, Garner and Mejbri.

I'd be surprised if we could offload Martial. We cant even sell Pereira to a willing buyer.

Martial is a better player, the question is whether we are willing to accept a relatively low price. Pereira is a genuine lower league player.

HIs wages make it very problematic to navigate a move though. And his flop at Sevilla will make upper B class European sides think twice.

Which is something that you can offset with a lower fee. Now I think that people are making way too much of a deal about his Sevilla stint, players often fail after a transfer or need time to adapt, clubs aren't thinking twice that easily especially when there is an injury involved and that he was doing perfectly fine before that.

I'm a lot more concerned about the amount that United is trying to get than Martial finding suitors.

I'd say half of them will be sold/released and half will stay (or go on loan/stay).
I'm leaning that it's safe to say all of these won't be here next season:
  • Henderson
  • Jones
  • Tuanzebe - loan
  • Williams - loan
  • Bailly
  • Pogba
  • Mata
  • Pereira
  • Lingard
  • Ronaldo
  • Cavani
  • Chong - loan
  • Pellistri - loan
  • Amad - loan
That's a big turnover however you look. A lot of them have their contracts expiring or have itched to leave for years without playing a role anyway.

Matic would most likely leave and Greenwood would probably be terminated as well. Martial woukd hopefully be out as well.

Ajax say deal not done. To stop their season being derailed? Also, talking to a bundesliga club?

I doubt it. Greenwood I'm not even including in the list, he should be done of course. Matic though has value to stay as a DM and with his experience. He's capable of coming in and having a good impact. Martial will stay purely because we don't have a starting striker nor do we have a backup striker if we let go of him... So he'll stay another year as depth I'm sure.

Don’t think Ronaldo or Bailly will be going

Every and I mean every reliable journalist close to Utd have reported a ST is a big priority alongside midfield. Martial has no future he isn't staying to compete with Ronaldo and a new No9 and I also fail to see how Matic stays if we keep Garner and buy a new DM

Rangnick also openly said it's obvious we need to sign a CF this summer.

Ronaldo will definitely stay but I'll be very shocked if Bailly stays. He's actively sought a move for almost a year now and almost joined AC Milan in January. We can't keep an unhappy player forever especially if Ten Hag indeed wants to bring Jurrien Timber with him

I'm surprised so many people are overlooking it. It's very obvious a ST will be signed alongside one or two midfielders, likely with a CB too

I was worried Rangnick would choose Pochettino because they're both counter pressing merchants. And I was hoping the likes of Bout and de Regt would sway Murtough, because from what i've read about the two Dutchies, is that they're well versed in the play style of ten Hag.
True, but wasn't there an article saying that Ten Hag also favors counter pressing when losing possession and then Ajax usually regroup in a 4-5-1 if they fail to win the ball immediately or am I misremembering?

You see the difference is that ten Hag utilises the counter press as a secondary weapon in a compact high block with the primary objective being to hurt the opposition by controlling the 5 horizontal spaces in both halfs by controlling possession via positional play.

The likes of Rangnick and Pochettino are wedded to the counter press and don't really place much emphasis on controlling the game in possession. But instead place a heavy emphasis on winning the ball back high up the pitch via a coordinated press to force a counter attack.

So whilst ten Hag utilises the counter press as a secondary objective, Rangnick and Pochettino utilise it as their primary objective. And it's the reason why I believe most United fans wanted ten Hag due to his ideas having the potential to have a more profound impact on the team as far as creating a identity goes. Because imo, ten Hag's idea is more ambitious due to the variety of attacking sequences it can spawn with devastating movement combined with technical play.

After watching this, it is quite a bitter sweet feeling.

One way , what a great team Ten Hag has tuned up: energetic, technically excellent, fast pace, resilient and fight for a win until last minute.

On the other hand, no way our current squad could play this way. That means Ten Hag would be climbing a very steep mountain trying to implement his tactics, and could be sacked before the squad is fully overhauled in the 1st or 2nd season.

That's exceptional time-wasting from Antony. Five minutes added. Goes off the pitch injured at 93.16, comes back on to get treatment, gets sent off, play isn't restarted until at least 94:45 (the throw-in right before the whistle seems to be from a different position so probably a second throw). Ref blows up at 95:23.

Just introduce a stop-clock system (at least in stoppage time), shithouses can't keep winning like that.

I think the assumption is we sign a striker to replace outgoing Ronaldo while Martial doesn't have anyone willing to stump up the cash to buy him so he stays as depth.

I guess that depends on Garner impressing when he comes in though. Matic has another year I think so it would make sense to see out that year.

I don't see Ronaldo staying to play in the Europa League or the conference League... Bailly has been itching to leave for years I feel like and just gets fewer game time every year. Not sure why he would stay. We can replace him with Mengi or Tuanzebe if we want a depth guy like that who barely plays.

I will miss Eth so much. Think he will do great if you get rid of all the deadwood and diva’s.

I hope ETH won't sign till he gets veto on transfers, coaches, contract extensions, contract renegotiations.

You're missing the bigger picture here. Feyenoord was time-wasting before Ajax came back. So the ref thought it evened out and just ended the match after the initial 5 minutes.

I'm pretty sure I've read is that they defend in a narrow 4-3-3 like Liverpool does, which is supposedly very hard to implement because it needs alot of pieces to be in sync. I feel like a lot of teams defend in a 4-5-1 because It's easier to coach.

What I really like about Erik ten Hag is that he is very similar to Pep on the ball and Klopp of the ball, which gives me hope we can get the best of both worlds. Our players are in a for rude awakening during pre-season because this team is gonna need a grueling pre-season to get up to Ten Hags demands in the game.

That's not how added time works, to punish or benefit one team or the other as the ref sees fit. If the ref, once the clock hits 90 (at which point Feyenoord were 3-2 down, so why didn't he just add three minutes then?), decides that five minutes should be added on, and at least a minute and a half is wasted by one team, then it's unfair to not compensate for that and reward further time-wasting during the time that was added because of time being wasted.

Added time is to compensate for time lost and/or wasted, so the ball should reasonably be in play for that time. If the ref is supposed to blow at 95 or thereabouts, a team can just win a free kick, then rotate free kick takers for five minutes until everyone's on a yellow card, and then have the game ended once it reaches 95 minutes?

I don't really care in this instance but it feels harsh on Feyenoord to reward Antony for walking back on the pitch while "injured" in a blatant time-wasting attempt and then not add that time back on, especially since the ref's deemed it so flagrant that he's given him a second yellow card for it. How is that "punishing" anti-footballing behaviour if it clearly works?

It's likely that 3 out of Ronaldo, Cavani, Greenwood and Martial aren't in the squad next year. A striker is a must.
Chance Pogba might stay now. Difficult to offload anyway.
Eh? He's out of contract in 8 games' time.

Irrespective of our players quality, Ajax quality, Ten Hag's tactical and coaching ability. I must note this.

At Ajax, for a few years now, there is a lot of swagger. It is hard to measure or make objective but it ranges from the social media departement, to the youth academy, the directors, the manager and players. People from Amsterdam are known in Holland as arrogant, bluffing, cheeky, courageous. And I havent seen that at Ajax for quite a long time up until the past about 6 years I'd say.

It much started under the regime of Peter Bosz where Ajax were "back", trying to cement a place with the "big boys of Europe" and crowning themselves as #1 in Holland. It sounds like a load of bullocks, but as a fan, that is what has been the vibe or mood around the club, for the past years and it shows in many ways.

United used to have this as well under SAF, very much. Just a certain air around the whole club.

That is completely gone at the moment here at United, when you watch our players, there is 0 confidence or swagger or invincibility around them. I do wonder if Ten Hag needs that and will be able to bring that back by himself, that stretches far beyond tactical ability or even occasional succes.

Did he have it at Utrecht?

Oh yeh I saw this but couldn’t remember where. Thank you for that, it’s a great read. More I mean the poster saying Ten Hag need an ‘arrogant club’ doesn’t really make sense when he’s taken smaller clubs with no ‘arrogance’ up a level,

You lads are really reaching now, almost making up things to be concerned about. It’s not a healthy way to live your life. Just enjoy the fact we’re appointing an exceptional head coach.

I am sure this has been posted before but for those who have not seen it, its worth a watch:

The key to success is the runs off the ball.

Hopefully, he can drill that into that bunch of lazy selfish cnuts.
