Weghorst shouldn't have been near the pitch today. Pellistri was clearly a better option as an impact sub
When? He wouldn’t be a starter? If I remember we refused to pay his fee, waited a year and got him cheaperPeople said the same about Sancho
He'd gone three at the back and put on Garnacho which is a risk on such a big occasion. To put on a player who has played hardly had any first team football on as well would have been reckless. Let's give him credit for making the decisions he did instead of focusing on those that don't even make sense with hindsight.Weghorst shouldn't have been near the pitch today. Continually playing someone who so clearly offers nothing is reckless , giving minutes to someone who could do something when we were chasing the game would not be recklessHe'd gone three at the back and put on Garnacho which is a risk on such a big occasion. I remember a few people getting upset because we didn't pony up the 100m hehWhen? He wouldn’t be a starter? If I remember we refused to pay his fee, waited a year and got him cheaper
I see your point. I can only imagine Weghorst is the lesser of two evils. At least he's experienced and puts a shift in. The bare minimum, I know. But that's a reflection of the sorry state of our squad. Perhaps there's a legitimate reason he didn't want to throw Pellistri in. I don't believe any of us have seen enough of him to believe they know better than the man who works with him every day.Continually playing someone who so clearly offers nothing is reckless , giving minutes to someone who could do something when we were chasing the game would not be reckless
I don't get why Pellestri hasn't had a chance to show if he's up to scratch, there have been plenty of chances to do so, Antony has been subbed most matches but Sancho kept getting the chance despite not doing very much to earn itI see your point. Yeah but surely there becomes a point when he has to say enough is enough + even when Sancho wasn't around he didn't really get a chanceWhich is logical because he wanted to push Sancho, who has been one of our biggest transfer busts to date. I agree with you in hindsight, our youngsters bring more energy than Sancho brings in 60-70 mins

Tons of logical fallacies in here, not least of which is assuming Mount is being signed as a squad option, rather than a starter.Correct. I will back any manager who thinks they can get a tune out of a £20m player and I will ask questions about a manager who says he needs a £70m backup option to get a tune out of a squad option.
Yeah, we missed Antony today - I don't think he's been half as bad as some people think. At the very least he is a handful, always gives 100%, and works his arse off - sadly, for all his technical ability none of those things really apply to Sancho.I know alot of people don't like Antony, but at least today he would have been better than Sancho.
Antony may have his limitations but he never sulks and looks disinterested. Pep isn't a better manager than ETH? Now theres stupid and then theres stupid. Of course he bleeding well is. He's arguably top 5 coaches of all time.
It's not a slant against ETH who has done well. Pep is in a league of his own though. Some people consider him to be better than Fergie mate so to say ETH is his equal is foolish.
Agreed. The thing that I have liked about Ten Hag's signings (bar Erikson really - but on a free he was a no-brainer) is that they all have a real fight about them. Martinez, Casemiro, Antony and Malacia all clearly have a certain energy and/or work ethic about them. In that sense I think they are the type of players that Fergie would have signed - spirit, character and a will-to-win. If he continues to identify players with those characteristics, and the ownership situation doesn't feck up the summer budget, then I feel confident that this team will be going places.Antony may have his limitations but he never sulks and looks disinterested. Any day would have a antony than Sancho
Fergie would have found a way to get the better of Pep if they were around at the same time I reckon. I think Ten Hag is halfway to finding it himself to be honest - with Licha Martinez, a genuine centre-forward, and a better version of Eriksen in the team today we would have won.First things first; it’s my opinion. Second; learn to be a bit more respectful.
Now I never said EtH is better, I said that Pep is not better. I rate Erik ten Hag and see him in the same bracket. Also, give EtH the same as Pep and we will see. Ffs I really rate Pep, but the guy only work with teams who are really good from the go.
Pep better than Fergie?
Do you think that ETH is in the same bracket with SAF? Because Pep is certainly in the same bracket with SAF.
We certainly have a lot of hope for ETH, but right now it is just this: hope. He hasn't achieved anything remarkable yet.

Not only are City's first team majority superior to ours but look at the bench options
City
Ake, Foden, Laporte, Kalvin Philips, Mahrez, Ederson, Alvarez
United
Weghorst, McTominay, Garnacho, Maguire, Malacia, Elanga, Pellistri, Dalot
On top of that City's backup goalkeeper absolutely showed up De Gea today in terms of playing with the ball at his feet. What in gods name is ETH supposed to do with this. Having to rely on an 18 year old Garnacho to turn it around at the death speaks volumes on how badly this squad has been put together over the years
I agree completely - Ten Hag is the real deal. I have rarely seen a manager that seems so single-minded, and so full of self-belief in his methods. A totally different character to Fergie, but with some similar attributes. I only hope that he gets the backing from the board that he deserves this summer...and hopefully early summer. He would. I don’t think anyone comes close to Fergie. One of a kind.
I think you are spot on. He is getting closer. What he has done this season is exceptional imo.
It’s something special about him. His a bit different and somewhat crazy. Strange that people can’t see that. People like him are the ones who make it and get success.
Just back him. He’s great.
I do think what he does with De Gea will define his reign here, though.
It worked for Klopp's Liverpool. You had Salah, Henderson, Firmino, Wijnaldum, and Mane suffocating teams back, and if they got through that you had Fabinho, Robertson and Trent midfield options to stop the play. And then excellent one v one defenders to stop anything long.
Swap those names in order for Antony, Bruno, new striker, Mount, Dalot and Rashford as the front press, then Casemiro, Dalot and Shaw helping build play and then defence covering. Which is why I suspect Kim Min Jae is linked, his one v one defending.
The system hasn't worked this year because there are players who don't fit anyway anyhow into it. And he's had to adjust for the most part with Eriksen especially playing deeper.
Mount does feel underwhelming, I totally agree. But if he does what Van De Beek did for EtH's Ajax, I can see the logic.
I agree with the trophy. However, it is harsh on OLE's 20/21 in the EPL, as we had to play like four games in ten days at the end of that season, and he decided to throw a couple of games, which might have affected the total points. That's better than anything Ole has done here. More points than Ole's two seasons and an actual trophy, something Ole couldn't even achieve.
Is he feck.Do you think that ETH is in the same bracket with SAF? Because Pep is certainly in the same bracket with SAF.
We certainly have a lot of hope for ETH, but right now it is just this: hope. He hasn't achieved anything remarkable yet.
Got it spot on today City are a far superior team but we were in the game. De Gea should have saved both goals and given city’s long shots looks like Pep saw him as the weakness.
I’m going to take a guess and say that if he’d started Weghorst so Rashford and Bruno could play in their preferred positions you’d have been in this thread moaning about that as well.
It’a been quite well established that Garnacho’s better as an impact sub. And if not for a shot going a few inches wide it might have paid off today too against a team that is about 10 years into a project as opposed to EtH’s squad that’s a mish-mash of players amassed during multiple different managerial reigns with basically one transfer window under owners that have actively been seeking a way out of the club for the past year and unwilling to spend a penny more than absolutely necessary.
In short, your post is a moron.
Lucky for him today that City didn't get out of 2nd gear and give us a hiding.
Don't see anything special about his tactics, could almost say he's naive.
I do wonder how much was done for him at Ajax, his backing of dross like Sancho and DDG will be his undoing.
