1. De Jong has been the best player next to Messi in the first 2 seasons. Has a mediocre year now.

2. Juve fans love de Ligt and he ‘hasn’t struggled’. He is highly appreciated by the club and a beast for a 22 year old. Just signed an extension. I watch all their games and they love him. Check out Juve reddit to find out what they think of him.

De Jong is the engine of our dutch NT which was absolutely shit until he became a regular.

I think de Jong is exactly what you guys need. A press resistant player with a great engine.
Combine that with Timber and you guys have a great setup.

60/65M seems like a steal to me for him.

Get rid of some deadwood to bump up the transferbudget to 170M.
Omg, get it done!

The image etched in every Utd fans brain for life.

Nobody is going to pay 50m or even £50 for him. Even if he's not convicted he's gone.
Can't see him come back from this and rightly so.
If he isn’t charged - which after 3 months there still isn’t enough evidence to charge him - then a team abroad absolutely will pay good money for him. 5 months ago he was a 100m asset - he spends 3 years banging goals in abroad he’ll be 23 and worth a fortune again. Society and football forget very quickly. A statement, a few PR interviews and lots of goals is all it will take. People thinking if he isn’t charged he’s just going to go work for deliveroo are ridiculously naive. Money makes the football world go round.

I saw the Greenwood quotes yesterday morning on Twitter at the same time the rest came out. This is the supposed article - I can’t verify them though as it’s in Dutch and behind a paywall.

Thats just wrong. Harry Maguire and Scott McTominay are not good enough and will never be. Harry Maguire is so unsuited for a team who wants to play attacking football as he can't play a high line because he is slow as a snail.

Which is why Ten Hag is the manager and not you. He will know exactly who is good enough and isn't. If he says they are good enough to be in the squad, I would rather back him, no offence.

in dienst genomen would normally mean your employment contract starts on that day

Would you say ‘ik ben in dienst van’ and ‘ik ben in dienst genomen’ have exactly the same connotations, or are there nuances? I’m practicing my Dutch.

Ed. forget it - Cheimoon cleared it up!

I know this is many pages back, but just for clarity: there is no ambiguity in Dutch, 'in dienst van' only means 'employed by' in this context.

:D

Those literal translations are fun. :) Dutch 'krachtenvelden' in this context means more like 'competing spheres of influence'.

Ah, thanks for the clarification.

Feck it, I'm officially excited! Seems like he has the right work mentality and strength of character to succeed here. And he's bald.

It will take time, but I am actually looking forward to seeing what he can do.

Looks like he wants de Jong bad, and I'm glad the club are pushing it, but I hope this isn't another summer long fruitless pursuit and there is an alternative to be found.

The only place greenwood can go is abroad if found innocent. He would be mercilessly hounded by the fans in this country, whoever he played for and the stigma on whoever bought him. Utd should wash their hands of him asap

He was my choice and I am nervous and excited. I'd love to be a smug "I told ya" bastard three years from now.

Well we don’t really. We heard and saw a tiny snippet of reality. If it all proves to be true then yes he will never play again and will likely face prison time. But how about we let the courts do their job rather than the social media brigade. If he gets cleared of all charges (yes unlikely..) then he shouldn’t continue to be stigmatised.

Not really. What was seen was strong enough that the onus would be on him to prove it wasn’t true, because it was very damning.

Again, him being found not guilty wouldn’t prove him as innocent, and the balance of probabilities say that he likely is guilty, which isn’t the courts burden of proof.

You seem to be agreeing with the point though. The burden is proof is with him but we don’t know what that is so no point commenting on definitives until we do.

This isn’t aimed at that particular poster, but there are a lot of people on here who have a great disdain for hard work.
Yeah I have no clue what some people (including that poster) have against hard work. It doesn‘t guarantee success, but helps increase the chances no doubt. God forbid you work hard on something you enjoy or like.

But that's not the point, you have European elites like Barca, Bayern, Juventus, Chelsea, us (if you'd consider that) raiding Ajax's talent because they deem them good enough to play at the elite level. Whether they actually manage to fulfil that potential is another matter, but the point is elite teams are throwing 40,50,60,70 millions at Ajax for their players.

No one on the elite level would even look at Everton's talent, much less buying them.
I wouldn’t mind Anthony, Timber, Gravenberch because they are great young players. Might be a bit cliche because he’s their ex manager but they’re the type of players any coach would want.

But Di Jong, Di Ligt are no longer Ajax players. They are Barca and Juve players and just feels like we’re making the same mistakes that we’ve been making for the past 10 years. Especially with DI Jong who doesn’t really even want to leave Barca, and if he was forced to leave it doesnt sound like United would be his first choice, shades of another Di we once signed.

Near sure some of the Ajax ladz where telling us he didn't like youth
The Ajax fans here made a private conversation and planned to shit us up by downplaying what EtH has done over there. Sneaky really, but the truth is out now.

Why not get both the DM and the CM this summer? Why postpone it for a year and leave a glaring gap in the team when the need is current?
Matic, Pogba, Mata and Lingard is leaving, and there’s question marks around DvdB, Fred and McT being good enough.
It’s the type of CDM that De Jong is. He’s great in a team that’s fully functioning and already insych, but he’s not the type of CDM to improve a rubbish team.

I dont buy that for one second. Frenkie is not a luxury player that fits in when the team is built.

People get confused between CDM and DLP and we lack both. Even if we get a CDM, it helps us defensively but the problems building from the back will still be there.

Frenkie sorts that issue out, he receives the ball from the CB and can pass out the back helping us in transitions.

He is exactly the profile that this team lacks.

Di Jong, Di Ligt. :cool::D

I think it will speed up the transition period if we can get a couple of (former) Ajax players in whom Ten Hag worked with in the past and understand his philosophy and tactics. At least Ten Hag will have players he can fall back on if the results go south the first few months and the current group of players are having doubts with the manager.

Comparing Ajax 18/19 to Everton. One had great run in UCL reached semi final and beating Juventus and Real Madrid on their way, while the other one was………

The reason why Klopp didn’t raid Dortmund is because the Dortmund players went to Bayern instead. As for Bayern, City had KDB, Silva, Fernandinho, Aguero, and Kompany. So why should Pep go after Bayern if he already had quality players in the city squad.

End of the day, it’s about signing the right players that fit the manager’s system. The likes of De Jong would fit ETH’s system since he was the key player of ETH’s 18/19 season.
I think De Jong is a great player and would fit any top level team. However he’s not the CDM to join a dysfunctional team trying to transition into a fully functioning elite team that wins and plays with a style of play like Ajax. He’s the type of player you sign once the players around him are suitable to him and that role.

The perfect example would be someone like Kante, he play great and be a key player in any league and in any team. Whereas someone like Pirlo would probably struggle as a CDM in most premier league teams esp during his prime years.

So my objection is not to De Jong, it’s to signing De Jong this early. I think De Jong in our team next season will have weaknesses exposed and his strengths will go to waste. Also if he doesn’t want to leave Barca, and we’re not even his first choice if they’re forced to sell him then I’m opposed to buying him regardless of how good he is.

Considering I’ve compared De Jong to Pirlo, and said he needs the right players around him. Maybe like Pirlo had Gatusso. A counter argument to my point, would be sign De Jong and CDM that does the dog work… if people think the Glazers won’t look at De Jong £70m = CDM fixed then they’re very optimistic.

The difference now is that it seems that the footballing men make footballing decisions.

I am sure ETH knows what he wants. We need a ball winner, Fred can be that guy, what we lack is a player in the midfield who can pass the football and is press resistant, I don't even know when the last time we had such a player.

Carrick maybe

So were Hummels and Puyol. A high line isn’t about having quick defenders, it’s about defending as a team. That’s implemented by coaches.

I tend to agree, I don’t think he will be seen in our teams again.

Its almost as if people have no idea about defending. I mean playing a high line means only fast defenders work is one of the worst statements I have heard.

If you are defensively good enough, press the ball in the right areas, you can read the game and don't require that excessive pace.

Spurs played a high line with Vertonghen too.

De Jong would have a far bigger impact in this team than Kante would that’s for certain.

It all depends on the manager's system. To build the team according to the manager system, we should start with the spine of the team. FDJ was the spine of ETH's team in 18/19. Schone wasn't even Kante's type of midfielder or the CDM to join a dysfunctional team trying to transition into a fully functioning elite team.
