So ideally, this summer we sign a more athletic CDM, who can also play box to box. Then a CDM like de Jong comes in a year or two once team is used to the style of play and has mastered it.
Why not get both the DM and the CM this summer? Why postpone it for a year and leave a glaring gap in the team when the need is current?
Matic, Pogba, Mata and Lingard is leaving, and there’s question marks around DvdB, Fred and McT being good enough.

Not really. But at the same time now they are at big clubs they will cost more.

de Jong hasn’t had a great time at Barca, and Barca is a club where you’d expect him to fit into the system more.

De Ligt has struggled at Juventus.

I know both are young and can still have great careers. But I’m at the stage where I look at players like Dias at Liverpool, what a signing his been. Imagine if our “scouts” at the time RR recommended him took the plunge, instead of telling the board that he wouldn’t improve us.

I really think De Jong 1) is too expensive for the rebuild we need 2) his the wrong type of CM at this moment. His like a Pogba but very different style and position in CM… if you put him into a team that’s struggling he’ll struggle too, if you put him into a team that’s used to controlling and dominating then he’ll elevate you to that extra level.

1. De Jong has been the best player next to Messi in the first 2 seasons. Has a mediocre year now.

2. Juve fans love de Ligt and he ‘hasn’t struggled’. He is highly appreciated by the club and a beast for a 22 year old. Just signed an extension. I watch all their games and they love him. Check out Juve reddit to find out what they think of him.

De Jong is the engine of our dutch NT which was absolutely shit until he became a regular.

I think de Jong is exactly what you guys need. A press resistant player with a great engine.
Combine that with Timber and you guys have a great setup.

60/65M seems like a steal to me for him.

Get rid of some deadwood to bump up the transferbudget to 170M.

I am liking all that Erik has done so far. Start with our midfield and build out from there. If we end up getting De Jong, and the prospect looks likely at the moment, it will be all down to Erik's presence as our coach. A good start.

This is why he is rated as one of the better coaches, he can get more out of players.

The players are all good enough to be in the squad.

Lets look at negatives but we have Bruno, Sancho, Ronaldo, Fred, Varane and many younger players who he can build a team around, added with 4/5 signings.
Thats just wrong. Harry Maguire and Scott McTominay are not good enough and will never be. Harry Maguire is so unsuited for a team who wants to play attacking football as he can't play a high line because he is slow as a snail.

I saw some quotes about Greenwood on facebook attributed to him, are they true?

There aren't any I can find that don't look made up.

Closest I can find is on ja606.com where he is alleged to have said "If he is proven innocent he will definitely have a place in my team" but again, there is nothing anywhere else that reports this.
Yes this is what I was referring to I think it's fake.

Never mind I'm pretty sure they're fake. Basically saying that if Greenwood isn't charged he'd be going straight back in the team.

Most likely rival fans trying to stir it up.

Ultimately, I don't mind losing matches. I don't mind either Europa League or Europa Conference League. It is football, and to lose is natural. He is beyond that. Whatever the circumstances, he should never wear the red shirt again. I hope Erik doesn't intigate something untoward just because we are short of players at the moment.

I totally agree with what you're saying, but if the charges are dropped (or he has to go to rehabilitation classes or some other BS cop out) you can guarantee he will be playing his football somewhere.

Footballers are put on such a high pedestal that they get away with far too much.

Footballers are put on a high pedestal, however the club has to return to the ways of no one player is bigger than the club. They've done this will Mason. All the goodwill and support and campaigns the club put forth means nothing from a personal/human standpoint if they allow Mason to come back. United have scrubbed Mason off their digital, social, and owned channels since he was charged back in January.

The club will either retain his rights and allow him to be sold, release him outright when possible or just let him fade into obscurity until his contract is officially expired, which the team won't even announce. We won't know anything publically until the Summer and that's fine. The club has a unified stance on Mason and it looks like he's much more outside the selection (as EtH mentioned he's working this week on squad selection and scheduling) than anywhere close to the selection (i.e. first team squad).

Hopefully he isn’t part of anything going forward.

Why should we kick him out if the court officially announced him as guity-free? That means he’s innocent. It seems like you are hell-bent on him being guilty while the investigation is STILL being conducted.

If he’s deemed guilty after investigation, he’d face prison, not just being kicked out by us.

But that's not the point, you have European elites like Barca, Bayern, Juventus, Chelsea, us (if you'd consider that) raiding Ajax's talent because they deem them good enough to play at the elite level. Whether they actually manage to fulfil that potential is another matter, but the point is elite teams are throwing 40,50,60,70 millions at Ajax for their players.

No one on the elite level would even look at Everton's talent, much less buying them.

If he gets off its on a technicality, highly unlikely given everything that was floating around at the time. I don't want those sort of people associated with the club I support.

It might not be perfect given I agree innocent until proven guilty, but it's a weird case with so many details already being public knowledge

As great and exciting as that was, I really hope not. Trying to rebuild what he had at Ajax with the same players eg De Jong, De Ligt etc would give me nightmares of Moyes’ window when he tried to sign half the Everton team.

Look at Klopp, when he joined Liverpool he didn’t instantly go looking to raid Dortmund. Not did Pep at City go after Bayern players. A sign of successful managers is that they tend to start from scratch with each new job.
Comparing Ajax 18/19 to Everton. One had great run in UCL reached semi final and beating Juventus and Real Madrid on their way, while the other one was………

The reason why Klopp didn’t raid Dortmund is because the Dortmund players went to Bayern instead. As for Bayern, City had KDB, Silva, Fernandinho, Aguero, and Kompany. So why should Pep go after Bayern if he already had quality players in the city squad.

End of the day, it’s about signing the right players that fit the manager’s system. The likes of De Jong would fit ETH’s system since he was the key player of ETH’s 18/19 season.

The internet has already given its verdict.

The evidence was there for the internet to see and hear. Disgusting cnut shouldn’t be allowed anywhere near this club again.
Ideally we should sell him for 50m or something. We aren't getting shit if he's convicted, although we won't have to pay his wages either.

A swap deal with barcelona for de jong will do me fine.

Nobody is going to pay 50m or even £50 for him. Even if he's not convicted he's gone.
Can't see him come back from this and rightly so.

Not guilty ≠ innocent.

We know enough from what was immediately public that he isn’t innocent.

random thought...

Do you think ETH could get a tune out of Pereira? He's not the greatest player but he might work in a well drilled system

I would say no, because Pereira lacks the basic quality needed to function as a PL level CM/AM

Well we don’t really. We heard and saw a tiny snippet of reality. If it all proves to be true then yes he will never play again and will likely face prison time. But how about we let the courts do their job rather than the social media brigade. If he gets cleared of all charges (yes unlikely..) then he shouldn’t continue to be stigmatised.
