I've got complete trust in the manager to sort this out in the long term if he's given what he needs.... However....

The way he is persisting with Weghorst not only to the absolute detriment to our play and results; but shifting our 2 best players out of position to try and accommodate him is completely baffling.

I wouldn't be surprised if Rashford, Bruno and other key players in the dressing room are growing increasingly pissed off (privately) behind the scenes.

Awful performance today.

Have we? He’s been part of the team that was being praised 3-4 games ago as being a dark horse for the title. It’s all fallen apart a bit but many of us were worried about the number of games catching up with us.

I’d prefer to see Rashford central and Garnacho on the left but Garnacho isn’t fit.

Martial is barely available. Sancho can’t seem to play well other than 1 game in 10.

Our depth is really hurting us now.

Looking at results when judging a players performance is often a bad way to evaluate footballers though, especially attackers. In many of our best results he still managed to hinder attacking play to the point where we'd take him off and immediately look more dangerous. The pressing bit that people love to talk about is laughable too, as if we are some machine at winning the ball high up the pitch (we are bang average, which is better than previous years but not elite in the slightest). If that's all a striker brings to a side, and is a genuine 0/10 going forward then he's a useless player overall.

In my mind it's the one big time mistake ETH has made so far in his time here. Even Antony is quite defensible, and as I said before I don't mind the thought process behind bringing WW in but this insistence that he starts essentially every match is fecking idiotic and now is starting to cost us points as well

More wonderful coaching leading us to great progressive football.
It is tough for you. Failed Cardiff manager can't get a decent job so you are stuck with United.
Be patient. Soon, some club from Norway will hire him. Any second now...

22 points behind Arsenal who have spent a small fraction United have in wages and transfer fees.

Hopefully we can do better next year.

We are 3pts better off than under Rangnick and we've been whacked 6 and 7 at the home of our two biggest rivals.

ETH is a good coach but he's not immune to criticism. He's starting to get big calls wrong an awful lot and none more so than Weghorst experiment.

I still have faith he will get it right and turn us into a quality team but he's starting to get on my nerves a bit I can't lie. Those subs today too were stupidity. Varane and Martinez were playing well. What was the point?

I don't get these comparisons. The main difference is that even while bad under Ten Hag, the overall feeling around the team that we're just starting and this is the beginning of the cycle. We might not be doing brilliantly in the league but it's his first season, won a cup after 5 years drought and a lot of things have improved regarding playstyle and results. The feeling around the team is we're under the right track and there's a room for improvement. Last season it was the opposite, the feeling was that we're going to get far worse rather than better. Last season felt like it's truly the end of United as a top club if anything. Things are completely different now.

Ten Hag had made a lot of mistakes and not all his decisions are good but he has definitely improved the team, this is undeniable. We're passing currently through a bad period of form after a cup win which kinda happens. Not the first time I see a drop in performance after a trophy.

Also, not to mention he has a 70% win percentage with United in comparison to Ralf's 35% something anyway.

TBF doesn't sound like you think he's great.
You think he's great?

You're just a relentless Ole fanatic who offers nothing in the way of discourse. Why was it ok for you and your ilk to lick the arse of Ole? ETH has shown progress, and if you can't see it, maybe football isn't your thing. You're in here getting upset, because eh Ole? Very odd.

 Very good

I rooted for Ole when he was our manager, sue me.

I'm rooting for Ten Hag too, but I'm not gonna go on like we're doing great when we're a Casemiro suspension away from being every bit as bad as anything Ole served up.

The only way to try to be top on all fronts is to build a squad with very good depth. This can only happen when Glazers are out and in the meantime we continue do well in the transfer window. We lost the opportunity in the past several years to enforce the midfield. We have to do the right acquisition in the summer.

Is it a case that he persists with Weghorst so as not to disrupt our more important players in their favored positions? Ten Hag clearly has a long term vision that obviously wasn't going to be implemented fully this season.

We are still quite a few players away from being good enough. EtH had a poor match today and made quite a few mistakes but the squad really is paper thin in terms of quality in some areas of the pitch.

Casemiro and Eriksen being out are a big blow and the quality we have to replace them is not up to scratch. It is pretty difficult for any coach to get a tune out of a midfield of Bruno, Sabitzer, McTominay and Fred as the only options.

We are also desperate for a top quality striker.

The game today felt like we played with 10 men, part of the blame has to go to Ten Hag but it's also true that years and years of poor recruitment has meant he has a decent first 11 but not a lot in reserve.

Saying that some of the subs today were pretty mind boggling especially taking off Varane and Martinez and replacing with Lindelof. Even now I can't see the logic behind that weird substitution.

Because Ole is a club legend. It's weirder when people act like top reds and pretend otherwise. Gee, why do United fans give Ole more leeway than other managers? Real headscratcher, that one!

He was my second choice. If he doesn't get top four, he would have easily failed this season. However, he should be giving another season regardless of if he gets top four or not. He is bringing the right mentality to the club.

The 7-1 thrashing was a low point, but I have seen a lot of good from the way we play. If we are not challenging for title next season his future should be debated.

Casemiro is Ten Hag's purchase, and the lack of any other good midfielders in the team is the fault of your favorite manager spending +400m in 3 years and not even bothering to buy a single midfielder throughout all this time except VDB who was frozen immediately after.

Today's Match Result is on ETH if you don't agree with me it's fine and I'm open for some convincing because I don't know what he was thinking putting Mctomainy in the number 10 position or pushing Bruno whom we all know is bad at ball retention into the Eriksen Position or playing Sabitzer in the Casemiro role. It was a bad set up, we can agree to the fact that our midfield is quite bad without Eriksen and Casemiro but Swapping players position like this helps no one, you've got to play your best players in their best position not moving them to unfamiliar roles, what irks me the most is he choosed Newcastle away from home for all this experiment, which to me is just crazy, then to top it off he went full Bananas by subbing off Antony for Sancho, in this sort of games you need players with fire in their belies and that's definitely not Sancho then what was the Sub for Varane and Martinez about, didn't really) caring how exposed we'd be on the counter or set plays.

ETH lost the plot today, i can't believe he was that Naive, we've now lost all away games to the the top teams we've played in the league which to me is really not good enough, it shows how weak we are away from home, as much as the club needs to overhaul the Midfield to help his cause, he too needs to learn from this sort of games if we want to become a topside that dominates games home and away.

I know a lot of people are complaining but come on. Typical redcafe meltdown. People getting concerned....really?

Two of our three midfields are out who are a cut above the rest.

We have no striker.

Our players are quiet obviously gassed.

I can't wait for the season to end in a way, we have been too successful for our own good becausw don't have the secondary squad to see i through. EtH hasn't got bad overnight, come on guys.

Football is fickle. I think he deserves criticism for today but we will look much better with our midfielders back.

It is definitely concerning that we have regressed since winning the league cup.
What is even more concerning is the comments given by Luke Shaw after losing to Liverpool that some players were content after winning the LC.
He has become victim of his own success. Before the season started many did not expect us to even finish in top 4. Now suddenly he is expected to fight for the title with this squad.

Was also powerless to stop the dressing room from fracturing, which made ETH’s job that much harder and the players seem to be reverting back to that a bit.

Precisely. I don’t understand why some fans have to defend players or managers fanatically. It’s very clear ETH has made quite a bit progress with the club and we’ll give him credit and time for that, but he has also made a lot of wrong calls lately. Which meant we’ve been on the receiving end up of drubbings away from home and we’re running out of steam at thewrong time in the season.

You can’t move forward if you don’t recognise your mistakes. And I find shielding the manager from all the criticism is unhealthy for the club. He needs to become aware that he, and not just the players/squad, needs to improve too. He needs to learn to set up more defensively and with counter-attacking intent when he doesn’t have the team to dominate away from home. Playing 4-2-3-1 without good midfielders and a striker only in name, again and again only to get humbled is very poor form from him.

Because Ole is a club legend. It's weirder when people act like top reds and pretend otherwise. Gee, why do United fans give Ole more leeway than other managers? Real headscratcher, that one!

Exactly. People overlooked the fact that he blatantly wasn't good enough, because, club legend. fecking ridiculous the posters who couldn't separate Ole the player, and Ole the manager.

can’t really do much with this shite team. Need to judge him when we’ve got a proper striker and a quality midfield. The squad is so poor without Casemiro and lacks quality without eriksen. I don’t think guardiola would win games with mctominay and weghorst in his team. Plus we’re playing more games than anyone els as we’re deep in all competitions.

You are in your feck 'rooting for ETH'. You're just wumming in here about Ole anytime we have a bad result. Everyone can see it.

You can give stats without context and it really does skew reality. Yes, we're only 3 points better off, but overall the football has been much better (with obvious exceptions). We have also won a trophy, are in the semi final of the FA Cup and QF of the Europa league. The progress is clear, those saying otherwise are blinded by their agendas.
Yes, let’s maintain some perspective on this. Points don’t tell the whole story.

Absolutely.

Not to mention, ETH started only 4 of his signings today. Two were emergency loan deals in January. He has to make do with plenty who are/never have been good enough.

The majority on here expected us to finish outside the top four, and any sane person, could see that it would be an erratic transitional season. But, agendas gonna agenda.

The fact we played 11 games last month and another 8 this month is on him and it's fecking daft. We're at the business end of the season and he's played the strongest team he can in every game he's been able to. As a result of that, we've got injuries and suspensions, and we're still in all competitions despite the squad being nowhere near good enough to compete for all.

He should have played the reserves against Betis and if we go out, we go out, or even Barcelona, do we care about this shite EL? Surely the league is the focus?

Now we're heading into the penultimate month of the season, threadbare, playing shit and needing to win all our games with a squad not good enough to or deep enough to play 2 games a week. On top of that, Sevilla, Tottenham, Leicester and Chelsea all have the new manager bounce to look forward to.

It's been a piss poor player management job from Ten Hag and if we finish outside of the top 4 and bomb out of FA cup and the EL, people will start asking serious questions. Rightly or wrongly.

Well said. As I said ETH has become a victim of his own mini-success.

Tea lady as a manager couldn't match failed Cardiff manager in terms of failure in United. So unless ETH doesn't relegate us, any comparison with FCM is out of order.

The desire to want him to succeed given his history made loads of us give him way more time than he should have had. If he left after the end of his first season where he was caretaker, or even after the EL final, that would have been for the best.

Although if I were OGS and United come knocking with a multi year contract worth millions, there is no way I'm saying no to that.

Only so much a manager can do, fatigue, injuries, suspension & having McTominay as your replacement for Casemiro.

I wish he had of just left after his interim period. We all would have thanked him and wished him well. He also would have probably gotten another job off the back of that spell pretty quickly.

They had Longstaff in CM. Two very ordinary CBs. Murphy in their attack etc. Players who have had very ordinary careers up to this point. They are a very oridnary team bar 3 or 4 players.

Furgie would go into certain games with the setup to let the players know, we are not here to lose today

I worry that Ten Hag is also high off successes we had this season

When you have most of your attacking and midfield options missing going into a game you don't have to lose the way you set up sends a message to the players

He hasn't been pragmatic enough especially away from home and we have been dominated in most of them.

We were better against Chelsea but needed a last minute equaliser for a draw

We needed a last minute goal to beat Fulham

Even with Casemiro in the team opposition teams just pack the midfield away from home knowing if they get past him they are in

How are we spending so much money yet our midfield falls to pieces with 2 players out

The way he is persisting with Weghorst not only to the absolute detriment to our play and results; but shifting our 2 best players out of position to try and accommodate him is completely

Rashford plays better off of the left and Martial has been injured.

Wout isn't taking anyone's place.

We need a number 9 in the summer, probably 2 as Martial can't be trusted to stay fit.

I don't know about agendas but I've dared to suggest we're not as far along as some suggest and been called an Ole lover.

Those saying we're completely transformed, that it's all down to management, are way off the mark. But they're so entrenched in their opinion they've lost all objectivity.

Even now, only 3 points better off than a truly terrible last season, with a worse goal difference, posters are still trying to tell us its much better.

"Yeah but finals and semi finals"

We got to finals and semi finals under Ole.

I'm all for ETH, he needs two to three years, but way more is needed before we start talking about transformations or him being a success.

Couldn't agree more. Your posts in here today - and in general - are really fecking embarrassing.

The likes of you should honestly be thread banned.
I would expect nothing less from Mr Gestapo. A thread ban for calling that performance today woeful

 I love how this so nonchalantly ignores the main thing Ole couldn’t do in those finals that EtH did in his very first one: win.

So if De Gea makes one penalty save in that Europa League shoot out you'd have a different opinion of Ole the manager?
