He got it wrong today. Putting McTominay on Bruno Guimares made sense in theory but it just limited us so much because Bruno is poor playing in a deeper position. It all just snowballed towards the end.

Have to say, the effort the players put in today was criminal. Hardly anyone got into a 50/50 with full conviction. Nobody focused on passing the ball properly. Everything just looked like it was done with little effort or thought put into it. Martinez smacking the bench when he was subbed today mirrored my frustrations at how the game went.

thanks for the league cup but you’ve taken us as far as you can. time for a fresh face and with some new ideas that don’t consist of just playing the tall lads for a laugh.

Seriously, every time we lose we get absolute nonsense like this post. ETH isn't beyond criticism but this is a whole new level of idiocy

Werghost and McT shouldn’t be starting again. They’re shite. ETH got it totally wrong today, hope he learns from today.

Rashford’s insane form had been papering over the cracks I have been saying that for a long time. When he doesn’t turn up, we don’t score. We need new wingers as well as a striker.

You can’t expect one or two players to carry the attacking burden.

Also Bruno is a very double edged sword. Yes he is capable of magical moments but I don’t think he’s worth sacrificing the stability of the team over. The number of times he loses the ball is ridiculous. You can never control a game when your midfielder keeps gifting the ball to the opposition every minute.

How many times have we been bossed this season? We're 3 points better off than last year. Where's the amazing coaching and "system" "style" we were all promised?

It seems that right now the current manager is on par with Ole, with the superior squad and players. I have been saying it for a while.

We had it for a good chunk of this season but we’ve also had to play a lot of games without one or both of our first choice midfield. A lot of this team are lacking technically too and of course aren’t Ten Hag’s players.

Brendan Rodgers is available surely now is the time to pounce. #overreactionsgalore

What he has to realise is until he has the squad this club should have he cannot attempt to win every single trophy. Something has to give. This is one of the strongest leagues in the world, every game is taxing. The owners screwed him over in January, while they are trying to rinse any prospective owners for billions they neglected the squad, they let Ed Woodward and Matt Judge along with complicit managers waste millions and millions of pounds.

To be honest the only criticism is he has no clue how to set up a team when Casemiro is missing. It's not all down to personnel I think.

Seems obvious to say that without our only defensive midfielder, surely we could pack the midfield and play Rashford upfront away from home.

Fergie would have had Fred, Sabitzer and McTominay all playing today, and maybe even someone like McTominay playing wide right to help cover ASM.

Football seems to be so rigid these days.

Still don't know why we try to play out from back, when de Gea ends up punting it up field after 2-3 passes between our defence.

He's over thinking it especially in away games. We've conceded three v arsenal, seven v Liverpool, six v city, four at Brentford, two at Newcastle...

His subs today were bizarre. We had no midfield control and his first subs were attackers, including taking off Antony who was our best of the lot today.

Also taking off both CBS killed all flow of the game, was surprised that Martinez came off as he's the only one who can pass out the back.

Hopefully we get martial playing, eriksen back soon, and two games until casemiro returns.

The annoying thing is how the players lacked urgency and now have two losses and a draw in our last three league games

You are new here but the number 1 rule is rimaldo is always joking.

He is a very smart men manager with a lot of common sense, and a very pragmatic coach… which simply means that he needs the better players to win small margin games, the same as pretty much 100% managers out there.

The real question for all managers everywhere is: can he make a unit perform more than the sum of its parts or at least as the sum of its parts?

If he continues to back Weghorst he will lose a lot of the credit he's built up in the bank very quickly. Especially if we don't get top 4.

whatever the mistakes of the players, today was on him.
starting mct
subbing off antony -> 0-1
subbing off BOTH CBs??? -> 0-2

not a good performance, many possible reasons, but the way it happened, the loss is on his weird decisions.

Yeah, because giving Fred the job of covering Guimaraes instead of McT would obviously have been the safe choice and would have made all the difference. Antony had been tearing up their right flank all game long and has no problem playing the full 90 (that's why he almost never gets subbed), and whoever heard of going to a back three just because we're down and there's ten minutes left. Or of bringing on fresh legs if you do.

We just played a really poor game, not for the first time lately and which we've done pretty much all season away against top half sides. But people will go on about starting lineups and subs as if all this was an entirely avoidable calamity but for the inexplicable inability of the manager to understand the game of football.

Hello everyone,

As a football enthusiast, I've been closely following the performance of Manchester United under the current coach, Ten Hag. And after much observation and analysis, I believe that it's time for the club to part ways with Ten Hag and consider hiring Brendan Rodgers or even Steven Gerrard as the new manager.

Firstly, let's talk about Ten Hag. Despite his impressive track record with Ajax, he hasn't been able to replicate that success with United. The team has been inconsistent this season, and their recent loss against Young Boys in the Champions League is a clear example of that. In addition, his team selection and tactics have been questionable at times, leaving many fans frustrated and confused.

On the other hand, Brendan Rodgers has proven himself to be a top-class manager over the years. He led Leicester City to an FA Cup victory last season, and his tactical brilliance has been praised by many. Moreover, his experience in the Premier League could be an added advantage for United. He knows the league inside out, and he has a proven track record of improving players and building teams.

Another option that United could consider is Steven Gerrard. Although he may not have as much experience as Rodgers, he has already shown great promise as a manager. In his time at Rangers, he has led the team to a Scottish Premiership title, breaking the dominance of Celtic. Gerrard's leadership qualities and tactical acumen are undeniable, and he could bring a fresh perspective to United's management.

Of course, sacking Ten Hag and hiring a new manager isn't a decision to be taken lightly. There are risks involved, and it's important to consider the potential consequences carefully. However, given the current situation at United, I believe that a change in management could be what the team needs to turn things around.

In conclusion, United should seriously consider sacking Ten Hag and hiring either Brendan Rodgers or Steven Gerrard as the new manager. Both managers have the experience, tactical knowledge, and leadership qualities that could take the team to the next level. It's time for United to make a bold move and take a step towards a brighter future. Thank you for reading.

Thank god for that. What about all the other posters saying "we're 3 points better than last year", like that's even comparable?

People are being absolutely ridiculous about this. There is no manager that would have gotten better results with this squad.

We are playing Weghorst because we literally have no one else. Rashfords proven he isnt a number 9. Martial hasn’t played in months and wasn’t fit to start.
Bruno is the only fit midfielder that can play a pass so has to start deeper.
McTominay has scored 4 goals in his last two and has proven that he cannot play as a number 6. How can anyone suggest that he shouldn’t have started based on that?
Sabitzer scored 2 and assisted one during the international break. Given no one wants to see McFred - again, who else could have started?

It’s awful to watch and its depressing to lose but we’ve only lost 7 games all season with a team that was getting battered by everyone last year. We’ve never once played more than 5 players who are proper Man Utd starters in their position in all of those losses and we DONT HAVE A STRIKER.

I can save you all the trauma now - it isnt going to be any better against Brentford because we still wont have a midfield, a goal scoring striker or good options off the bench.

If Martial stays fit and Eriksen, Casemiro and Garnacho can get back to fitness we’ll finish the season strongly. But until that happens we’re going to need some real luck to grind out results. That’s not because ten Hag sucks, its because the squad does.

I'd go with midfield three, McTominay Sabitzer Fred. Rashford up front, Antony/Bruno on the right and Sancho on the left.

He's naive if he thinks he can just replace Casemiro with Sabitzer / McTominay and unchanged team setup/instructions.

Who didn't see Newcastle running through out midfield today?

This. He never tries to stack the midfield and play on the counter. This insistence on 4-2-3-1 even when we’re playing a tough game away from home, without our 2 starting MFs and when this has backfired against every single top 6 opponent… is some low IQ shit, sorry.

Play 4-3-3, Rashford up top and try tonick goals on the counter. It’s not like picking WW up top is proving to be a smart choice.

It worries me that ETH doesn't see that Weghorst makes the team much weaker. He keeps placing him in the starting line-up, even if he is only very rarely and for a few moments good enough.

It is no excuse that Martial is injured. ETH could easily have chosen a starting line-up without Weghorst. For example, with Rashford as a striker and Sancho and Antony as wingers.

That ETH continues to bet on Weghorst is just stupid stubbornness. It is clear that he is not good enough.

I'm sorry but we were told that with a proper coach that performances like this would be a thing of the past. That is as bad a 90 minutes as I've seen.

Who said that? The same shite players we have had the past 6 years are still the same shite players. A proper coach is just getting the best tune he can out of them.

Before people pile on, remember the pummelling Arteta received last season? The man has less than one season in the job.

He hasn't done anything better than Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. The difference has been Casemiro.
Eth showed lately that he has flaws. But before this bad run, our style of football was refreshing. Something which we last saw under LVG in his best period.
With ETH we will fight for title next year. No question that he is perfect manager for us.

BUT, i wouldn't give him 100% control over transfers. Its not just him, i wouldn't give it to any manager.

Sucks for you for believing whoever told you that. Too many players at the club are technically deficient which isn’t the manager’s fault.

But that's the issue, he tried to match Newcastle when he doesn't have the players to do so. Sabitzer had a knock on international duty and Fred was at home doing nothing. Antony didn't seem today like someone having an issue playing 90 minutes. Ten Hag didn't even have a clue where he wanted Sancho to play and after 15 minutes he was preparing another winger to come on in his position.

Lads, do you honestly think he wants the likes of wout, sab, mctominay, a crock in martial, sancho, maguire as squad players. Ralf was right that we need 10 players and we have signed some decent ones this year. We need another transfer window before we start giving off to the manager, but don't get me wrong he made huge errors today, but some posters here are going overboard with the criticism.

No, but this is;

I'm sorry, but I cannot provide a review of Ten Hag's career at Manchester United as he has never held a position at the club. Ten Hag is currently the head coach of Ajax in the Dutch Eredivisie. Would you like me to provide information on his career at Ajax instead?

Who said that? The same shite players we have had the past 6 years are still the same shite players. A proper coach is just getting the best tune he can out of them.
He is overthinking it. With shitty players you must play on their strength. You don't move shitty players outside their comfort zone.

I'm sorry but we were told that with a proper coach that performances like this would be a thing of the past. That is as bad a 90 minutes as I've seen.
I understand your disappointment with Manchester United's recent performance. While Ten Hag's appointment brought high hopes, it takes time for a coach to implement their tactics effectively. Even the best teams have off-days and suffer defeats. Let's give the team time and support to bounce back.

I'll have what you're smoking.

He paid too much for Antony and that’s all I’m gonna throw at him. Apart from that he’s been class for me. He just needed everyone of his buys to lock down his position and Antony hasn’t. Looks abit of a waste of cash…like Sancho was. We couldn’t really afford another like that and yet again it happens. Might come good next season. Sancho has had enough time.

On the other hand, the team's had it's best period this season with him playing up front. Not that I'm not eagerly looking forward to when we have better options, but it's not as simple as that.

Is that the case in the league? I feel we have been haemorrhaging points with him as our starting striker.
