I loved ole as manager
why?! He was awful.
I loved ole as manager
Yeah, it all points to unfamiliar set-up or structure. We will break the 44 goals conceded this season yet we seem to play well.Good article that.
Certainly in terms of stats we're having a peculiar season. Up there in terms of clean sheet but also conceding lots of shots and on the end of a few drubbings. Heavily reliant on one player for goals but with it a brilliant win rate.
Even our goal difference. Would be interesting to know how many teams have finished 3rd with around a +6 goal difference.
These things don't usually go hand in hand.
Liverpool considered to be having a poor season but they've scored more and conceded less than us.
Either way ETH is making it work as well as can be expected in his first year.
Fair enough. I feel the same about Dave Sexton.I don't know about anyone else but I'm just happy to see he is still on peoples minds
Are there really people who would rather United fail just to stick up for an old manager? I haven’t seen that. Would be very weird if true, if they are Infact fans of the club.
But this is the thing, he wasn’t always awful! People seem to love hating on him but my memories are that we had a run where it was the first time I’d enjoyed watching us play again, we got a belief back that we could come from behind, record breaking away results, we had some good cup runs, good wins against bigger teams, It fell apart yes but it wasn’t always awful.why?! He was awful.
Yup, when over half your 'contributions' to this thread were posted after Sunday, it paints a pretty damning picture.
New one from yesterday was 'Bald is cold'Bald is best.
Apart from an initial 10 game run where the players obviously felt like a weight had been lifted it was mainly mediocrity. There would be the odd run of games where you (one) tried to convince yourself that things were good, but the tactical decisions never improved, the players never looked any better coached - or fitter - and the rhetoric from Solksjaer was uninspiring and cliched. For everyone bemoaning Sunday's 'worst result ever' they should remind themselves that a few years back Solksjaer took us on our worst run of form since the 1930s - 7 defeats in 10 games - and that wasn't at the end when things were falling apart, that was when he'd been here longer than Ten Hag has. It's weird that some of the same people who have talked about other posters not having 'standards' cos they aren't crying about the Liverpool result didn't seem to worry about standards when we had a manager that everybody in the world could see was not of the standard that United should have had in charge. But this is the thing, he wasn’t always awful! I’ve seen posts saying that finally ten Haag has us coming from behind in games since Fergie and that’s just not true, you can hate OGS without having to lie about his time here. And you can also love having ten Haag here without having to hate everything that went on before.
You have your memories I have mine, guess that’s football.Apart from an initial 10 game run where the players obviously felt like a weight had been lifted it was mainly mediocrity. I'm so happy we got rid of that fraud, so I don't have to explain for the nth time why these runs are pathetic and suitable for a Spurs supporter to be proud ofYou have your memories I have mine, guess that’s football.
the away run, the Europa league run; neither was in the first ten games. We also started coming back from behind when before that I had no faith in us ever turning games around. It wasn’t all bad. Cool to hate the guy I suppose.
Good on youI'm so happy we got rid of that fraud, so I don't have to explain for the nth time why these runs are pathetic and suitable for a Spurs supporter to be proud of
is it 'cool' though? Is it really?!a

I can sympathise!New one from yesterday was 'Bald is cold'
If he can win the Europa league, and finish 3rd aswell as already having the caraboa then that’s a very good season in his first season in England. Beats klopp and guardiola anyway.
Nothing weird about it whatsoeverIt seems weird getting a manager of the month award a few days after the clubs worst defeat in their history.
Where did I say they were good memories? It’s just my memories of solsjkaers time here, it wasn’t all bad was my point when you said it was awful.is it 'cool' though? Is it really?!
Didn't the away run come during lockdown, when essentially all the same? And we bottled the Europa. Considering you said yesterday that even if we finish this season 3rd in the league and with 2 cups you would view the season as a disappointment, it's really strange to hear the kinds of things that you do class as good memories!!
We just have to iron out the Midfield structure to stop conceding alot of chances, then everything will be perfectly fine.
Please read the article.
That's obvious.
He shipped off CR7 who now regularly scores hat-tricks in one of the best leagues in Asia. He didn't do shit to keep positive characters like PogPog and J-Lin who both did wanders for our social media accounts. Instead, he populated squad with questionable, overly aggressive characters like The Butcher, Blondie, Dutch Donkey and that overpaid old sieve discarded by Madrid.
What an insecure looser. Probably cause he's bold and has a stutter.
Defintely! I’m excited to see how the play progresses over time. How we are winning so many games already is amazing but i expect the style of play to get better too with more suitable and better players and time to actually train methods. Certainly seems capable of it.He's working miracles at the moment. We have to remember he's barely getting any time on the training ground because of the short time between games. I cant wait to see after the summer when hes got new reinforcements in, more time over the summer to implement new ideas and then not such a mad schedule next season where we can actually keep working on new tactics.
If you consider where he had to start, it would be a great achievementIf he can win the Europa league, and finish 3rd aswell as already having the caraboa then that’s a very good season in his first season in England. Beats klopp and guardiola anyway.
It's just really fecking weird. He has 23 posts in here: 12 have come since Sunday, not one to praise ETH when he won the League Cup and some of his posts in here are bigging up Ole's away record. That's a pretty clear agenda, and he's not the only one, others who only became active in here after Sunday, have suddenly disappeared after last night. Not a word of praise from any of them
Very good pointVery telling quote from ETH on being unsure the fan reaction at OT after the Liverpool game:
"I was curious about that and I was pleased by the response from the crowd to the team," Ten Hag added. "From minute one they were behind the team, the team gave energy by performance and they gave it back. There is a great bond between the team and the fans and we are pleased by that."
I was struck by ETH using the term "we" here...it's a small thing, but not insignificant IMHO. I feel like the difference between ETH and so many other managers (especially some of our post-SAF ones) is that he is an authority figure to the players and demands that respect and position...but he also considers himself PART of the team. He's in it with his players, and the players feel that.
It's a subtle thing, but can often be a huge part of a manger getting through bad periods. Players don't feel a separation between themselves and the manager. There's no scapegoating. Everyone is in it together and good and bad performances are on everyone...not just the players. It can go miles towards long term success and not losing the dressing room.

It's a great mentality to have. We all have each other's backs. Brilliant.

Me and the lads sure didHang on? Talking about having your own memories
Did we not come from behind under Mourinho? Did the club not even do an article on it?
Supporting Ole was exactly like being a Spurs fan, an away run here, a cup run there, meh league points totals every season and no silverware.

Never said that they were good memories, Jesus Christ and I never said anything about a disappointment. Honestly the stuff that gets made up for a jump on is quite funny.Feck off @Zlatan 7 you never said that???
You think an away run and a Europa League were good memories yet you’d consider third and 2 cups a “disappointment”?
I’m not having you said that, even Cato wouldn’t be that see through.
Fair enough, we came back under mourinho too. So it isn’t a recent thing.Hang on? Talking about having your own memories

I wonder if you guys talked about Erik in Ole's thread this much when Ole was the manager. Bite you bastards.

He bitLogged in, was thinking "look at how many pages about Erik and we won yesterday".
Hmm. Must be something wrong.
Started reading, Ole this, Ole that.
Move on, he left, stop being so hurt.

That’s a fair and balanced post and agree that season was good, my username came from the Zlatan signing. Maybe the mourinho era left such a sour taste it increased my enjoyment of the ole reign, untill the end obviously.fair enough, did seem far fetched.
My fave time watching United since Fergie is by far this season, and before that it’s Mourinho/Pogba/ Zlatan’s first season, by some distance too. We won cups that season, drew so many games we should’ve easily won and felt like we were going somewhere.
The Ole/Phelan honeymoon was great, so much fun, but even that turned into an absolute clusterfeck for the final 10 games or so, a sign of something that was to happen each and every season under them.
Always felt we were running in quick sand with them after that and that every good run would inevitably end with a run of relegation form.
