That’s a cautionary stat alright, but let’s hope Ten Hag nets a trophy in his first season and does not suffer Solskjaer’s dramatic fall.
 
From interviews I still think he’s getting to grips with English and I suspect that’s one of the reasons McClaren is there. To make sure Ten Hag’s demands and instructions to players is fully understood. I bet in a year’s time (all being well) Ten Hag will be fluid.
 
He’s doing a stellar job and I hope the new owners back him big time in the summer. We seem to handle and control games really well, and games are no longer on a knife edge like under Solskjaer, where there was always a dread that we’d let the other team back in it, even when we were winning 1-0.

Burgundy turtlenecks will be the hot fashion accessory before you know it.
 
His English is fine when he speaks publicly to the press. That is who he is and the less we see his words getting used without context or just used for click bait shit. It also helps that the squad is winning more and not in a bad place with vultures circling.

The difference being the bulk of those points for OGS came during his caretaker period, when the team enjoyed a mid season new manager bounce, and it unraveled quite quickly even before he was made official. In comparison, after the first two losses, EtH has had us anywhere between top 4 form or title challenging form, and unless we blow up spectacularly in the 2nd half of this season, is on course to accumulate a higher point total than OGS ever managed here.

It’s all about the trajectory of the team, and we can see that in the performance, just like when the consensus was Liverpool would pose a bigger threat to City in the coming years, even though they finished behind Mourinho’s Utd.

And yet you have people here complaining 'OMG those players they must be tired'. If they were he would not have played them.
The same thing happened with Casemiro, as good as he was he needed to wait.
 
ETH retired from playing in 2002 and became manager of Go Ahead Eagles in 2012.

Does anyone know what he was doing in those 10 years?

I think the key with ETH is that he was a journeyman footballer. So anything he's achieved in management has been on merit. He had to earn it.

The tired stuff makes me laugh, it's not the games that make you tired, it's training and they can do less intense sessions if they need to recover. Also, what happened to rhythm? Players like Rooney couldn't be rested, they needed to play every game to stay sharp, we still have players like that.

And this style looks more sustainable and progressive, given that the foundation is defensive resilience and midfield control. The attack is still clearly a work in progress.

We certainly look more solid and controlled under ETH. Peak Ole was fun at times and a bit of a rollercoaster, but yeah it wasn’t the most sustainable.
 
It's like someone took the best man management and winning mentality elements of Ferguson and mixed them with a progressive modern approach.

This guy is the real deal. I just hope the financial doping of City, Chelsea and eventually Newcastle don't put us in the Liverpool position where points totals that should result in titles end up with us in 2nd.
 
Just finished reading the match report in the newspaper; I then thought about the Sancho substitution. I wonder if Eric protected/helped him by bringing on Rashford and Martial at the same time? By being part of a triple substitution his appearance after a long layoff would be partially deflected by the perceived forward line shakeup; Forest defenders would be far more concerned by Rashford as he is the leagues in-form player and by playing Sancho in the number 10 role would ensure that he would be in the thick of the action.

This was my assumption too regarding the triple sub.

I also think he’s probably trying him at 10 because it could free up Bruno to drop deeper to cover Eriksen’s absence if necessary.

Well I think Keane definitely was skeptical about him but now he is convinced that ten Hag is the right guy. Just needed time before he believed that.

:D yeah he clearly likes and admires him a lot, and enjoys the job he is doing. I think Keane just seems quite happy United are starting to become a force again. Whatever happened with SAF, Keane still loves United and wants us to be succeeding.

Eh? Nowt wrong here. Ole had an incredible new manager bounce by virtue of not being Jose. It was pretty clear that's all it was, and things didn't look too rosy by the time he got the full-time gig. But feck me, his initial period as an interim was pretty fun!

With ETH, it's clear that he's building something sustainable.

This really means nothing without context. Ole was riding that happy bounce wave while using tactics players were used to, ETH changed whole style of play and mentality, it was always going to be rough at first.

We just also need a #10 backup and there's no minutes for Sancho at LW, so it's that or RW or shockingly win the job as a false 9 which seems unlikely.
 
Saw a quote from him that said "Good to reach the final but it is not about reaching the final, it is about winning it" which I absolutely love. No point getting to a final if you get there and lose. I hate when that's used as some metric of outstanding performance.

ETH has the mentality of a top manager.

Keane was gushing about him after the Arsenal home win in September. It was only with his weird take on the Ronaldo situation that he seemed to offer some criticism of ten Hag, but the reality of what is being achieved on the pitch and with the squad just can't be ignored, and Keane more than most is able to recognize the progress.

That‘s the best way to look at the onerous schedule of games we have.

In the short term it’s annoying that a team like Newcastle have significantly less games and may give them an advantage in the League Cup final and Top 4 race, but in the long run it’s for the best as we’re going to need to get used to playing 2 games a week on a regular basis if we want to be a trophy winning team with staying power. We’ve seen over the years teams that have an amazingly good season without Europe and then the following season with Europe, they fall flat.

That’s why I’m for playing in Europe regardless if it was even Europa Conference. The amount of extra games involved means we still have to retain a big squad and we don’t have to strip it down for a season, to only build it up again the following season if we do well.
 
In a recent interview about Sabitzer he said he followed Sabitzer ever since his Leipzig days.
Feels good to have a manager who's not only good at tactics and man management but also up to date when it comes into players and talents.
