Our squad is too thin to be competing on so many front but he needs to learn to make use of his bench if the legs start going.

Expecting an ETH reaction. Games are coming thick and fast but those six should all be winnable.

He should have taken off Eriksen, the lad was tired, shift bruno in his place and Garnacho out wide

He brought him on against city and it worked so you couldn't say its a risk

We sat back like a bunch of cowards pretty much.

Playing away at the emirates, to a flying Arsenal, we had 42% possession, scored 2 goals. At times had them defending in a block, struggled to break them down though, which makes sense with no Martial, Case, Sancho, Dalot. Not sure how that equates to sitting back like a bunch of cowards, unless you expected us to have more possession than them?

No shame in that defeat, until the 70th minute mark we matched Arsenal most of the way. We've come a long way but still have a lot of work to do and useless players like McTominay to ship out.

Keeps subbing off his own £80m player and never has the balls to do daring subs but instead keeps on taking off attackers for midfielders. I 100% agree we should not be too harsh on him due to it being his first year but at the same time, do not kid yourselves, if Spurs, Chelsea & Liverpool were not so shit this year we would be miles off top 4.

We are only 6 ahead of Contes miserable Spurs.....

We finished 13 points behind them mate. So a 19-point swing in 6 months. Get a grip.

Ban him from signing Dutch players.
Unironically he does need to be reigned in on transfers. Managers can have their targets but he shouldn’t be leading on specific players for every position. If we’re outpriced on them - alternatives must be considered going forwards. We can’t give him the same freedom for more Antony’s for example.

You all need to calm down. We are not a great team yet and we will lose games. Fergie lost games too and he's arguably the greatest manager to ever live.

Poor decision not to change things up, especially as it looked like we were tiring out a bit towards the end. But I understand he wanted to keep bodies close to our goal as we couldn't afford to have an end to end game at that point.

I can take loses like this if it means everyone, players and managers take lessons from it and move on. Positive thing for us fans is that Eric is honest and perceptive enough to see how he and the boys could have done better.

Onward and upward.

Exactly, and because of the fee for Antony we are in a situation where Wout Weghorst is our main striker away at Arsenal.

Our midfield without Casemiro is simultaneously full of players we need to sell because they're not good enough and so brilliant that should be playing free-flowing football at the league leaders.

We were excellent for 65 minutes, shame we couldn't close the game or be a bit more attacking to ease the pressure, but we are running on fumes and had to play AWB, McTominay, Weghorst (who was solid tbf) against the most in form team in the league away.

Dear god, these meltdowns are ridiculous. Some people lack any sense of perspective. Ten Hag did a great job getting the team to play to such a high standard. Unfortunately the opposing coach did the same with a stronger, better rested squad, at home. You can't win them all, especially in the first season of a new manager after ten years of mediocrity. I guess a bunch of forumites here have gotten so used to negativity that they can't recognise a good thing when it smacks them in the face.

He needs to make a strong decision and get rid of De Gea in the summer. He surely can't be happy with watching his distribution.

I don't think DDG was the problem today, but the manager will surely look at a few other options given that spare a few notable performances this year, Dave's best days are behind him and at 300k a week (or whatever he makes) that's a hard wage to justify given that there are others available for much cheaper.

Another great set-up and we were unlucky not to get a result. However, we may be seeing his first weak spot. He seems to trust his signings way too much.

Garnacho should have come on for Eriksen and generally we were way too defensive way too early. Even if Antony faded away, he is someone who can keep the ball and give us a breather. With Fred on for Antony, we were done in attack.

Ten Hag got it wrong in this.

In game management not great and should have been more proactive.

You win or you learn though. No matter how frustrating that was

Terrible management second half. How is it possible to keep 2 players on the pitch with no contribution and keep 1 player posing a threat on the counter.

Keeping Weghorst on is just criminal vs Garnacho or Elanga. Arsenal didn't have to worry a second about the counter anymore.

And he subbed Anthony which still had the legs, and kept Eriksen on. Give one good reason to stay with Eriksen and Weghorst

Bad week for him as we have conceded injury time goals in back to back games. He will learn from this and gotta remember has only been here 7 months compared to Arteta's 3 years. He also still has the remnants of previous managers players to move on too.

So the manager can't be criticised now? Has this morphed into a cult?

No it’s more a case of look at the massive progress and the fact that we weren’t that far off a draw or win against a team that has had years of preparation.

He needs to be backed up in the summer. Hopefully we'll have new owners by then.

Having to start a match of this magnitude with Wan Bissaka, McTominay and Weghorst as starters shows how short our squad is.

We severely lack quality, need at least 4-5 quality players before we can actually challenge for big titles.

Other than Garnacho, who are these magnificent players he can call upon from the bench to change a game against the best side in the league? Garnacho is a bit of a risk too in terms of giving the ball away.

You can easily discern a pattern and a style of play in the way the team passes the ball and the quick breaks, it's frankly miles better already than a lot of what i saw under Ole and Jose but we're not there yet. There are some real weak links in the squad who are giving their absolute best but just aren't good enough sadly.

He needs to be kept far away from any recruitment unless we want more Eredivisie trash. Get a specialist DOF for that role.

We have grown leaps and he can hardly do anything more with what he has got. We just don't have funds to back him in January. That bench was just not PL level

Credit to Arsenal for sticking with Arteta. He has created a beast of a team. We’ll get there soon I’m sure but that Ole appointment and painful stint under RR set us back a good few years on where we should be.

Sorry but I'm not trusting him with a penny after Antony. Hopefully the new recruitment staff can identify the players that will be valuable to the club long after ETH leaves too.

Bit disappointed with Garnacho not coming on earlier. Think ETH could have done better in game management in both games this week but overall we really don't have the depth of squad right now to cover all these games. We have improved a lot overall though.

We're miles ahead of where we had any right to be after that opening two matches of the season, entirely down to having finally appointed a proper manager.

In six months the Cafe has gone from whining about Brighton and Brentford (quite rightly) to being outraged by us conceding an absolute worldy at Palace (when we should have had a penalty if VAR hadn't cacked themselves) and losing 3-2 at the league leaders who've dropped two points at home so far this season. The latter taking place in no small part because of us having 14 dependable players in the squad.

Anyone pretending he's not performed miracles is a complete WUM.
Nailed it.

Yup. Majority of tougher games is already behind for 2nd part of the season, while Newcastle, Chelsea or Pool are definitely not on City / Arsenal level this season.

Not expecting a win vs Barca but domestically, team should return on a right track and fast.

the game today was always screwed. if you want to blame anyone, blame the 11 that started the second half against palace with zero urgency...

if we'd got the 2nd goal we could have rested case

People really need to realize it's going to take him a lot of time to get us up to his style of play.

He is attempting to build side that can both take the game to opponent and win. We couldn't measure up to them in this game, checking out the stats paints an obvious picture. Even if we somehow snatched a draw or even a win, it wouldn't have pushed us further in our development. There is a lot of work ahead of ten Hag to make his side approach games like these with the idea of being on the front foot. Signs are so far promising, but it is obvious that the process will take much more time.

I have a hard time to criticize him for that when the same team or structure with Fred in the middle and Bruno on the right completely shut down City 1 week ago battering them on the counter. The problem is that we had Casemiro instead of McTominay then. We couldn't bring the ball to our forwards in the last 20 minutes or so and am not sure if McFred midfield would help in that sense.

Spot on.

There's some proper fecking melts on here, posting paragraphs of waffle, in a cringey attempt to support their pathetic agenda.

Not something we don't already know but the squad depth is crap. When we have 3 players in the starting line-up who are probably West Ham level in Mctominay, Wan Bissaka and weghorst. Then we are relying on players like Fred to come on and tighten things up.

Only decision I would question is keeping Eriksen on. I'd have subbed him for Fred and kept Antony on but we aren't spoiled for choice in terms of what we have on the bench. All of the goals we conceded were pretty much our own doing.

People should understand that arteta has been with them for 3 years and ETH only been with us for a matter of months. We beat them 3-1 at OT and only lost today by a last minute goal. Massive progress made by us. To even be in the game against top of the league is quite good.

That’s the thing really, he’s only been here 7 months and personally I think we would have easily won if Casemiro was on the pitch. We went toe to toe with them for much of the game.

AwB was a bit of a liability both at the back post and playing out from the back, and Eriksen disappeared in the second half. Two to three decent acquisitions in the summer and we’re challenging for the title.
