He's got a hell of a job on his hands. I just hope our entitled fan base don't start calling for him to be sacked after a defeat.

Provided he culls this current squad I agree.
This is on the board.

They need to do a major clear out before he even begins his tenure and continue to do so until we have a team that is able to challenge.

Needs to be fully backed in terms of who he wants to bring in and who he wants to get rid of. Basically given full control and power on what he wants to do and how he goes about implementing it. Otherwise it’s just not going to work.

He has an uphill battle you feel unless we have a clearout in the summer. The whole squad has a stench of negativity indifference and mediocrity stemming from it and we need some big big changes to break that.

The very fact we’ve hired him makes me concerned about his actual ability. Hopefully the decision makers actually picked Pochetino but there was some miscommunication and we’ve just decided to go with it.
What is this about?

If he is able to turn this around then he will prove himself as one of the best managers in the world. It may be a great opportunity for him despite all negativity.

He needs a mass clear out and at least 5 signings in his first summer or things could get difficult pretty quickly.

We hear the clear out talk every year, but this summer is an absolute guarantee.

Mata, Matic, Lingard, Pogba, Cavani all certain to go.
Factor in Greenwood as a 6th if they ever get his case done!

That's a huge set of first teamers to go in a batch.

I think we should allow him to gut the players and bring ones he likes.
The mentality just isn't there, they're damaged goods at this point.

I’m the opposite. there were reports he was doing his due diligence and wanted plenty guarantees before signing a contract because he seen the scale of the job on his hands. The fact he’s put pen to paper means he’s obviously got those guarantees in writing and hopefully we’ll see a mass clear out and at least 4-5 new signings in the summer.

He needs to purge 90% of that first team, this summer not in few windows, if i want to watch unquality shit, rather him signing free unquality agents on low wages, at least that makes more sense than watching cnuts that are paid 150k plus per week and giving us midtable football, that can be achieved with feckers on 30k per week.

It's never as bad as it seems, the players just need some proper coaching.

We'll look like a completely different team from the first pre-season game.

No the players need to be sold ASAP. The sooner these overpaid, overhyped $&#& leave the better for the club. Not one of them is fit to wear Man Utd jersey.

I see a lot of cultists behavior already, saying that no matter what happens he will get a free pass next season or he doesn't have to win anything or get top four.

If ETH failed to meet the basic objectives, he will not last long, especially if he is backed a lot in the summer. ETH has it easy as the standards is so low that it can't get any worse. Moreover, since he has control of players he wants he can implement his philosophy as quick as possible unlike most other big club who doesn't guarantee that to new managers.

ETH needs to take advantage of this great opportunity as he has a lot of positive going into next season.

Jones, Bailly are also certain and Martial will probably leave as well. There’s no way we’ll replace even 3/4 of those with new signings, we’ll do well even to finish top half next season. Patience is needed.

True. However it’s only really Pogba and Greenwood you could say are first eleven players, the rest are squad players at best. We need 4 or 5 in of real quality to slot straight into the first team to see any real improvements.

They will, and it won't take long.
I don't get where this sentiment comes from. Moyes and Ole were both applauded by the vast majority of Old Trafford long after proving they weren't up to the job - even after being twatted 4-0 by the likes of Liverpool, City, and Watford.

Wouldn't say the first 2 are certain at all as they're still in contract, but yes Martial, and maybe Perreira if he's still hanging about too.

These players will get him sacked and the deluded fans will get on the sack the manager bandwagon.

There, Ive called it.

Couldn't agree more, if he goes on the sort of run Ole did before he got sacked, or he carries on playing the sort of football Ralf has us doing now, then people will want him out very quickly.

Though should that happen to a manager like ETH for us, then where that will leave us I shudder to think, but I agree that the same rules will apply to him as the rest.

We've just appointed a systemic manager on a 6 month interim contract, with a group of players who cannot play together in one system the manager wants to play. On top of that we lost 4 coaches when Ole left and had to bring in 2 MLS coaches so someone could take training. The current group of players either couldn't do or couldn't understand the system Ralf wanted to play and unless we have a massive overhaul of the playing squad, what you're seeing right now is what we'll get for the first 6 months of next season. By which point Ten Hag will be a fraud by a section of people on here.

Anybody who expects us to compete for trophies next season is living in cloud cuckoo land. Completely unrealistic. Top 4 is even very unlikely considering the level of the competition in the EPL.
As you say best is to expect is an injection of positivity, sprankel of hope. Ten Hag’s short term objectives has to be getting us playing football & install some resistance in the side. I can’t see us going down the Gelatico route ever again and I suspect we’ll see more younger, unproven and above all closer knit squad next season.

I'd rather we end up midtable next season challenging for a cup and clearing out all the rubbish and mixing new signings and youth under ETH leadership.

If i see Jones, Pogba, Linguard, lindeloff, McTom, in the squad (and some others) I will be furious.

Even if 10 Hag is successful in turning it around and building a good team, it’ll be 2 or 3 seasons before we’d have a realistic chance of challenging for the PL title.
If he’s only partially successful, we might be lucky to become a regular top 4 contender In a few seasons time.
We can hope the stars all align and he builds a title challenging team early on, but realistically, prepare for a lot of disappointment next season.

A total rebuild will take time and patience.
Not only will it be unwise to try and throw money at the problem, that money is going to be a lot tighter than Utd are used to, with our income and earning potential continuing to slip.

Assuming he still wants to come here, has anybody considered that he might be a nutter?

He's in big trouble if we don't buy a lot of new players this summer.

buying a lot of players will only make it worse.

Get rid of some, buy some, work with the ones left to up their game and promote from the academy. It has to be a rebuild (we all hate this word by now, but it has to be). It will take time……

Let see what we do in the summer before saying some things aren't possible. If ETH gets Ole/mourinho level of support then he should 100% get at least top four. That is the basic objective. Since there might be a lot of outgoing, that should be put into consideration into getting the right cohesion with his team. As such, no one should expect him to win the top trophies. However, if we are in the conference league or europa league, our team will be significantly better than the rest of our competition. So the basic expectation for that competition is at least reaching the finals or semi finals. ETH isn't coming to a mid table club. He is coming to one of the biggest club in football. Just because of how much Ole has set us back, our standards is low. But definitely if he meets those basic objectives then next season, he should be challenging for the title.

There’s no way in the world it will be possible to a) identify and b) sign the talent needed in order to seriously challenge before the start of next season. The fans have to be patient.

It will take time but we still need more than just some given we will lose many and some are as good as lost (Greenwood Martial etc). I don't think we should expect too many promotions. It's a huge step up to the first team and ETH will be expected to deliver CL footy as well.

If the board don’t back him (if water is wet) he has a genuine relegation battle on his hands next season.

This bunch are only going to down tools more and more
