I'm pretty impressed. He started the old hats, gave them a clean slate, and being given the rope they promptly hung themselves.
Player power is real, I remember Rooney's legs being done under Mourinho, but he couldn't drop him right away, he needed some bad results to demonstrate need, or let Rooney prove him wrong. When he was benched it wasn't disruptive, it was clear to the team, the club and the supporters he was done.
Likewise ETH has avoided disruption from Maguire, and Shaw to a lesser extend, as ostensibe England starters and established starters.
