Amazing how this team looks better with pretty much the same players. Ladies and gentlemen that’s what coaching does to a team .

I'd say today is the first game we've looked better in terms of quality and the three new players and a fit Varane is helping a lot with that.

Not that I'm doubting fresh coaching and fresh motivation is helping.

We have some good midfielders individually but they share the same flaw, they all range from average to terrible under pressure.

It's pretty clear why Ten Hag was so insistent on De Jong.

Hate to be a negative nancy but he's been shafted by the owners when it comes to the entire offensive options. We have Rahsford who is an absolute joke. Martial who's 24/7 injured, lost Greenwood and a 38 year old Ronaldo. Antony was a top buy but he needed more. We are so bad going forward because all his options are shite.

Sancho & Antony the only ones who can make things happen. It is time for Erik to put Rashford in the bin and give a chance to Garnacho who is techincally superior anyway.

Mate, they spent over 200 million. If he's short in one area he has to take some responsibility, because clearly if he wanted to allocate some more funds to it, he could have. But also we had too many holes to fill, so there was always going to be an area where we're short.

Ah I see now.
I’d say those subs improved us offensively as well. We kept getting behind them because Casemiro allowed us to push up a bit.
it’s weird, it’s a good performance but there’s about 50 percent more to come from this squad which is really encouraging
Yes Im not expecting full Ajax football from this team in such a short period. Specially after such a bad start we have to build our confidence back and that starts by keeping clean sheets, but as time goes I expect to slowly turn into a more aggresive offensive minded team.

Was Rashford an absolute joke when he banged in the winner against Liverpool the other week?

A rebuild won’t get done in one window

If you don’t have the patience give it a miss

True but as the season goes on and WC and tight games you will see what I mean by shafted. Injuries will happen bad form and so on and you will see how the lack of quality options attacking wise will be detrimental to how he wants to play.

Problem isn't the football itself. It's poor but to be expected with this squad.

The problem is the players he's brought in to address our issues. Especially in possession.
The players he's brought in? You mean some of our best performing players in the last three games?! Or are there some invisible players that we signed that only you can see and are shite?

Klopps Liverpool didn’t? Peps City stuttered?

Yep.

And in Pep's case at least he inherited a much better side than the one ETH did, with the likes of KDB, Sterling, Fernandinho, Aguero, Silva, Kompany, Zabaleta, Clichy and Yaya Toure already in the team. And then spent something like £180m on top of that that summer.

agree we are woefully short there

can see a few of the kids being more involved

but the Jan window is a bit closer this season in terms of PL games (because of the world cup), so maybe the chance to do a loan

A goal against Liverpool eradicates nearly 2 years of his shithousery?

Not a rebuild to get in one or two quality options to a criminally weak attack.

As the season progress you will see it will become troublesome for him with these options for the offensive.

Ajax fans weren't kidding about his subs.
They weren't late today?

I really didn't like the 4 midfielders and then 5 midfielders on the pitch at once though. Feel like we overcomplicated it and could have brought Ronaldo on for Elanga, and Casemiro on for one of the midfielders.

I’m just wondering if you thought he was an absolute joke then and tonight when setting up the winner?

The patterns of play are visible but they're still few and far between. It doesn't help having players as clumsy in possession as Bruno, Rashford and Elanga of course.

We made those subs because of basic fatigue though. We didn't shut up shop and stop trying to play football all together. We put midfielders on to help us control the middle of the park against a team that was going to throw more numbers at us. If we were subbing on CB's a la Jose style then I would agree with you, but we had 5-6 counter opps' in the last 20 minutes of that game to score goals and just didn't have the quality, which is what having two more forwards (Martial returning and Antony) will help do. Bringing Ronaldo on and sitting Rashford on the left also help the ball stick a bit more when playing it up to the striker from the back, while Rashford can offer those diagonal runs that he's more effective at.
I do agree we have some players that seem cant handle the physicallity or rythym of the EPL. Sancho doesnt have the stamina to last the 90', while Eriksen is melted by the 60'. But I dont think the subs have been because of fatigue, I think its Ten Hag wanting to be solid in the back and maintain the result.

Ten Hag has changed his approach between the first two games and the last three. We dont play from the back for example, he changed that quickly once he realized we're totally shit at it and teams were exploiting it. I do expect us to slowly progress into a more offensive team, this is by no means what Ten Hag's Ajax looked, but would be silly from me to expect that kind of football in such a short period.

Don't see the complaining here, the second half especially we were in positions in their defensive third with Bruno on the right, that would have comfortably ended up in goals had it been Antony.

People say drop Rashford, for who ? Ronaldo is worse.

When Martial comes back and with the additions of Antony and Casemiro we'll look very good.

I like the way we are starting to play now. Not like it is the best we have seen in years, but certainly in the last few months. It is a start. We are still very short on quality up front, though. It might be because our attacking play is the hardest implemented and most of our forwards are not fit yet.

The only concern I have is how he manages the late game periods.

Klopps Liverpool didn’t? Peps City stuttered?
Klopp and Pep both had their teams playing their style. They just didn't get the results they wanted.

This is not a complaint btw. I'm just stating verifiable facts. Ten Hag clearly has his players being conservative because he doesn't think they're up for it. Eventually I would like to see us replicate the instructions from preseason. I'm not expecting amazing results. I just want a more visible display of Ten Hag's brand of football.

I think it's understandable where we're at right now.

I thought we were wobbling in the 2nd half and ETH made a sub, brought on Casemiro and we regained control.

Good management

Crazy for some people to be unhappy after we became the football equivalent of skittles in a bowling alley last season. Two clean sheets in a row is not a coincidence, Erik is doing a marvellous job with a limited squad. As he integrates the new signings we’ll get better and with a good January window I think mid to late season we’ll be a pretty good watch, There’s already moments when you can see it’s working the quick movements the way players seem to be finding themselves in space for the first time in forever. Times when a quick triangle move completely circumvents a press, Glad most seem positive on here, the odd moaner is easily ignored in such conditions.

What?

This has to be one of the most clueless poss on the caf.

You are talking two incidents when I am basing that opinion on 12 months of performances combined. Yes, for Manchester United regularly startig such a mediocre player it is.. For me to change this opinion he will need to have a very good season numbers wise but I doubt it. Even a player like willie zaha which almost everyone calls shite is outscoring this guy in a trash team.

Hes done really well to turn it around after the Brentford shambles.

Defensively, it's the best we've looked in a long time.Confidence is slowly coming back and it's the first time in ages I'm actually looking forward to watching us.
It'll take time for him to get his ideas fully across but at the moment I'm happy with the job he's doing.

He’s learnt quickly that this team needs to be solid before he can be more adventurous. Bar two shit shows I think he’s been impressive.

You should probably just try being less dramatic with the ‘absolute joke’ nonsense.

We know where he’s been performance wise over the past year or so but he was looking more like himself against Liverpool and got another assist tonight.

How about you just leave off a bit and let Ten Hag do his thing? The negativity is draining.

For the first time in a long time, it felt like we controlled the midfield battle and were composed on the ball.

Actually, it was really the final third that let us down tonight. Up until that point, I thought we did well and controlled the game. A trait we've not had for a long time, so well done to ETH for that.

I know Leicester were terrible, and I mean awful. But last season we were the guys you wanted to meet if you were on a bad run of form and needed a morale boosting win. Some signs of improvement.

I really think it’s clear he’s missing martial (or at least a player like him). Martial is the glue to this settup currently and without him we have zero players in the squad who can make the ball stick. The good news is we have started playing like a team, defending like a team and showing glimpses of lovely passing moves. I think it only gets better from here. Starting to really believe again.

Exactly. It's gonna take sometime till we have a team playing exactly they way he wants, but pragmatism is crucial at the moment, and it's getting us results.

There were moments of nice passing to relieve pressure and some ways of keeping possession which were refreshing, lots more reverse passes instead of just lumping it (which still happened too much for my liking) but there are some clear patterns of how we are trying to progress the ball like Malacia coming into midfield and and Martinez then passing all the way through to the LW with Malacia then underlapping for example).

It’s early days, we really need more pace in the team though up front, hopefully Antony hits the ground running.

I would reason that we were hardly troubled because of how poor Leicester were rather than us being in control.

What's frustrating is that we have struggled to create chances again other than the goals. Three wins are good, but hardly any sign of progress.
