Nobody can really know what will happen, but I genuinely believe EtH stays for next season. I can't see any of the top managers wanting to come here for the poisoned chalice and I don't think we'll be decisive enough to move him on. We'll dither and trust him in the end, with a couple of new signings coming in to help him out but not wanting to spend much in case it doesn't work out. He'll be sacked late next season after failing to improve.

I no longer expect him to go. The last few days I was convinced he couldn’t remain and his position was becoming untenable.

Surely if we don't win the cup or get any sort of European football it will affect what players he can buy unless we sell a few players. Doesn't selling home grown players boost your spending power. The only one you would think could go is Rashford because if he sells Garnacho or Mainoo the s**t would hit the fan. Suppose he could sell McT.

How much of bringing in the youth was a necessity because of injuries vs. a conscious decision? And now he’s running the risk of running them into the ground because of his stubbornness to rotate the squad.

Also if we continue performing at the current levels, we’ll further damage the confidence of the younger players. So insisting with ETH for next season will be even more damaging in the long run.

And besides that I can’t find any other positives he’s done for the team that would warrant sticking with him based on our current performances.
Not sure it's stubbornness about rotating, more a combo of injuries and a weak squad. To not play young players in case they get sad we're losing is frankly odd.
The main issue for me remains the inability to structure a team. Even the likes of fecking Everton and Burnley can make themselves difficult to play against through being organised.

Then you saw our masterclass vs. Bounremouth!

Seriously though, whats changed?
I mean post Bournemouth. I think emotions are just high after games. The longer you have to think and reflect after a game your viewpoint becomes clearer. I think the noise from after the game in terms of INEOS position and other managerial targets points towards him staying IMO

Garnacho and Mainoo were conscious decisions, and so much so they are now considered starters

It makes very little sense to keep him, he's very unlikely to turn it around and we have been getting progressively worse with him in charge, but it's exactly what I am expecting us to do. And not just give him a few months of next season to prove himself but give him a free pass for another year. I think he's going nowhere for at least 18 months. All the noises from the club indicate his position is strong and I'd not be surprised if behind the scenes it's us trying to convince him to pen a new deal rather than the other way around.

I think he's done.

INEOS are changing everything from the top down and they'll get to Ten Hag at the end of the season. Shame, I like him and think he would've benefited from the new structure. Even if he's made some bonkers signings and lumped us with some flops on long contracts.

Sounds like Ratcliffe knows ETH has to go but wants to leave the decision in the hands of experts, that's encouraging.

1st year was very positive with something like a 25+ game unbeaten home record.

2nd year has been woeful albeit with huge off field distractions.

This season only has a few games left and only a few questions left to answer.

Does EtH get a 3rd year? being the biggest decision to make.

The way this season looks to be going, he might be the worst manager post-Fergie in every positive metric? The season has gone from bad to worse, to unmitigated disaster.

What's absolutely infuriating is that other teams are showing the fruits of their labour during the run-in and displaying what they're doing in training. Meanwhile, we're actively getting worse. By now, there's no chance training will suddenly show us a different outcome out there on the pitch. We'll continue to bumble through games reenacting the same horrendous errors and uneasy setup, and he'll do nothing to address it.

I've never seen anything like it.

If we manage to steal FA cup win, the season will be kinda saved.
But I think there's more chance we go out to fecking Coventry than winning the whole thing.

Knocked out of a piss poor CL group, 7th in the league with a minus 1 GD after 32 games, 241 shots conceded in the last ten games (must be a PL record). Add to this the fact that we've massively regressed and the football is an utter shambles. It's been an absolute nightmare of a season.
And then you have people taking all this as evidence of players being poor. Even using it as a defence for the guy who had a massive say in our 400 million transfer spending. Some even going as far as to say the likes of Spurs and Villa have it easier because their players fit more into how their managers like to play. I wonder why that's not the case with us, hmmm.

I reckon if he wins the FA Cup, he stays. Big if though when City are the other finalist
That kind of reactionary decision over a single game of football would tell us all we need to know about these new people in charge if that's the case, don't you think? If they keep him they better have a good reason that doesn't involve a domestic cup match.

Agreed. If he's not the right guy for the job, then he's not the right guy regardless of a one-off result.

Like LVG?

Yeah, that was weirdly a good decision in a sea of utterly terrible decisions. The last reactionary nonsense left us with 3 years of an underqualified manager.

Winning the FA Cup shouldn't excuse all that's happened this season. Anyone can win a one off final.

Mourinho being available forced that decision because Pep had just gone to City and United wanted to make a statement.

I honestly think a lot of the youth players suddenly making the squad and training with the first team is some last minute lip service. Mainoo and Garnacho aside.
I really hope Radcliffe is not taken in by this. Garnocho played a lot of games (perhaps too many given age) as Antony was garbage. Mainoo is quality but again risks being overplayed as he signed Mount instead of upgrade to Eriksen, and Casimero terrible signing too. If ETH had got FDJ would Mainoo be getting many minutes? Likes of Kambwala came in due to injuries etc. I really dont get the whole huge credit to the manager, these players have been moulded in our youth set up

Brings back memories that.

I was in Mallorca and watched the FA Cup Final in a bar there. Then news started breaking over some cocktails that Van Gaal was going and Mourinho was the most likely to be coming. Flight back the next morning and all the talk everywhere was about Mourinho probably going to United. Felt like a really huge deal at the time. Not had that 'buzz' from a managerial appointment since

there was a poster here who claimed the deal to get Mou had been done in December, some 5 months before the Dutch idiot got the sack. The poster claimed he had got this info from somebody who worked for Adidas. So for the Red Cafe regulars the news wasn’t actually a news

Same here, while I think Ten Hag is a decent coach. What I've seen this season has been laughable. I've never seen a team look so open at the back while simultaneously crap going forward. It's baffling that ETH and his coaches have watched this farce play out for an entire season and not changed things up.

What do they expect to happen exactly?

Why would an FA Cup win save him?

It wouldn't change everything else that has happened this season. That's what he'll be judged on.

Winning the FA Cup 100% should not save him.

In a one off game you can beat anyone, you can get outplayed but if the luck is on your side you can win on penalties for example. It wouldn't change anything in terms of ETH needing to be sacked, although it would be a great moment.

Exactly. When I was arguing for him being sacked 2 months ago the most vocal of his supporters were arguing that they wanted to see how we improved in the run in with more training/time etc. Well it's gotten even worse, yet people STILL aren't sure whether they want him sacked or not. Boggles my mind

Yeah us scraping by fecking coventry and then fluking a cup final should never save any managers job on its own, although I'm sure many would hold it up as a grand achievement
