Losing can be excused. Not being able to coach your players the basics of defending, attacking and everything in between after several years at the helm and hundreds of millions spent is not.

He has to go. If we still serve up these disastrous performances where the players obviously don’t know what to do years into his rein, it means there’s something fundamentally wrong with his coaching.
Exactly. Any team can get unlucky & lose but what we are witnessing is fundamentally poor coaching. Either, A) He’s telling them to do stuff they can not, in which case tailor the tactic of B) He’s unable to coach a cohesive system full stop. Either way this is not what Ineos should deem acceptable performance.

The only thing that will keep him in a job beyond this summer is any perceived lack of viable replacements. I cannot INEOS / Berrada etc. watch this dross every week and think there's a path forward with him as manager.

This is the worst football post-Fergie by some margin.

I know people slate LvG but at least his style had previously proved successful & in spurts produced things like Juanfield.

This football has no saving characteristics & the acceptance that we’ll concede circa 20 shots a game is malpractice.

You mean like they did the season before he got there? They also got picked apart in 2017.
Have you actually watched any of those Ajax games?

I made a point to watch a few games when we were linked to him and he played the exact same style we are playing now and it worked in the Dutch league due to the overall lower quality of the league. Even then he barely won it in his last season.

The league over there is utter garbage compared to the PL and hasn’t been a top league for about 20 years or so.

Do you remember our side basically strolling to the win in the EL final?

It’s a myth pushed by people that are too stubborn to see what’s right in front of us.

He’s no better than De Boer

Keeping Rashford on for so long and not taking of Bruno and Mctominay is not good or brave management.

At City Halaand, De Bruyne get subbed or even dropped. At United ETH keeps on our worse performers and subs our young players because it’s the easy option. Still EtH in, but would not object to a manager with courage taking over. The problem is still player power.

LVG still had a chance of top 4 on the final day of the season before he was sacked. ETH doesn't even have that now.

Easily,
It’s not even close anymore. I’m sure statistically for goals scored in the league it’s our worse average post Fergie too.

He seemed to have gambled on the Casemiro-Mount-Bruno triple from day 1.

It didn't look like it'd work from day 1, but 2 of the 3 have barely been available all year to boot.
He played Mount today on left in place of Rashford. It probably means that he realizes Mount’s best position is there.

Going from LVG to Mourinho has completely fecked us for years. Should have built on that possession orientated approach instead of ripping it all apart and going for counter attack football.

Berrada knows more about world football that this forum combined. If he is unable to come up with a manager that can improve on this we should all be scared.

We have vastly greater resources than 99.9% of world football. Whilst Klopp nor Fergie are walking through that door it shouldn’t take Pep to get a tune out of the squad Ineos are talking of assembling.

The bar to better EtH is on the floor.

He is the Donny of managers.

I think LVG style was misunderstood. It was adapted for us being crap so focused heavily on being defensively sound. The rest of it city would appear exactly the same if they had that squad.

He is shite. But il take it over Southgate if that is the best alternative the Glazers and Co can think of

You mean like they did the season before he got there? They also got picked apart in 2017.

You clearly don't know what you're talking about. He took over Ajax in Dec 2017. These were the players they sold:

Klaasen
Sanchez
Riedewald
Tete
Kluivert

Comparatively to you mentioning where they are now. These are some of the players that have left them in the last two years:

Antony
Licha
Haller
Gravenberch
Tagliafico
Onana
Mazraoui
Blind
Timber
Kudus
Tadic
Alvarez
Bassey
Klaasen

and you're surprised they're not competing for the league currently? Moreover, where's the evidence of the "great coach" at United?

Yep, it’s not even up for debate at this point.

Yep! I know it’s en vogue to slate LvG but I genuinely think another year or so under him then a more progressive manager. & both Rashford & Martial have completely different careers.

There were sparks to that team that we put out hiring Jose.

Easily,
It’s not even close anymore. I’m sure statistically for goals scored in the league it’s our worse average post Fergie too.
Statistically this will be the worst in so many more categories too.

Ratcliffe isn't going to keep him around if we serve up that sort of shite from now until the end of the season.

A miraculous cup final win vs City might be enough to keep him in his job until the start of next season, but surely patience will be wearing thin if we don't start showing some patterns of play soon.

Are they not being coached to close gaps when defending?
Not reacting to attacking possession?
Not marking man or zone?

I have no idea what defensive tactic ETH employs but am curious what his system is defensively.

80 touches in our box and 31 shots on our goal and people think this is good enough.

Could be his last week here. With Chelsea and Liverpool up next 2 losses and the pressure will be huge

He is shite. But il take it over Southgate if that is the best alternative the Glazers and Co can think of
This is the issue I have & this isn’t just aimed at you personally.

Gareth Southgate is not ‘the best alternative’ or anywhere near it.

Look at our football. The facts are we aren’t getting Pep or Klopp but be honest, we don’t need either to improve on the crap we’re witnessing.

Berrada is coming over from City with kore football knowledge than the Caf could imagine. If he & Ashworth [whose DoF in waiting] can’t come up with not 1 manager better than EtH who has managed club football in the last decade then we’re fecked regardless.

This isn’t EtH vs Southgate, the links came out right as an International break kicked off & our fans lapped it up.

I can actually see a scenario where Poch gets the sack at end of season and we pick him up.

At least we were solid defensively under Louis to offset the shite attacking football. We had the best defence in the league or close to it in both his seasons. Currently we can't even say that.

Within 15 mins it was obvious that Brentford were deploying a very low block to negate our fast attackers. A blind min could see it. No change from ETH, carry on with the same nonsense and hope for the best, while letting them counter on us.

That clown Schteve is as bad, shame he does not get the negativity he deserves.

I’m not even defending him really, I was earlier in the season when our injuries were insane. But we’ve got most of them back now, no midweek games and plenty of time on the training pitch. And it’s just terrible stuff every week. Which is mad when you consider what he was at Ajax.

I’m looking around at the options if we did decide to replace Ten Hag - and there isn’t really anyone, in a time when the likes of Liverpool and Bayern are already after a new coach. I think if Ten Hag was still at Ajax, and we were in this current situation with another manager - he’d be at the top of our list! Which makes me think we should just keep him.

Then I watch a game like that…

The injury thing was always a shit excuse, those may affect the results, but the underlying philosophy should not be effected. We have been poor no matter who has played. We don't look like a team, and that is damning. His time at Ajax is too overrated, and there are examples like De Boer who did well at Ajax but failed else where.

There are plenty of options, even if they are not obvious. Just because you may not rate them does not mean that failure should be rewarded. It is very obvious that he is awful and not the right guy. I always give any manager the chance, but they have to show their worth here and earn their time and place as the manager. He has failed to door that.

I initially thought this, but the likes of Ornstein and Mitten have basically said in their own words it's not just clickbait.

Same mistakes over and over and over...At some point you have to start asking questions...He's gone IMO. We look clueless every single week...

I don't really know why we were so shit today. Feels like everyone went on international duty, had fun, and were a bit depressed coming back. There's no joy in the team.

The doomsday clock on ETH's tenure definitely ticked a second closer to midnight.
After the first ten minutes during which period Brentford stayed deep to see what we were trying to do, they started to play long. It immediately jammed everything into our box and they got plenty of corners. That phase seemed taking the soul out of our players.
Our players did look depressed.

We're in a terrible position.

A manager who in any other circumstances would rightly be replaced in the summer. But we find ourselves in a place whereby at least three other big European clubs are on the manager hunt, and would to most be more attractive positions. And all in a time where credible candidates are thin on the ground.

We could finish bottom half of the table and I don't think I'd be willing to twist to Southgate.

Who is an achievable alternative that we can even have hope of being better?

Please just for the love of God line up Nagelsmann or de zerbi. This guy is not it.

He'll end up with probably our second worst points total after Fergie retired.

Been the same for most of the season. He's so slow to react and make changes either in tactics or subs most of the time.

I'm sure Southgate would find a way.

I still do rate Potter, objectively speaking. Though he should try a middling club first to prove Brighton wasn't some fluke.

In all seriousness, I don’t rate Southgate. Bottled the Euro final after the early goal and is too conservative, but at least he seems to be able to generate something positive from the players.

Never felt as deflated watching United for years. Sat in the pub, non-United fans laughing their heads off at the level of performance. One of the worst I’ve ever seen. Outplayed by a shoestring budget side. Could have easily been 5 or 6. No idea where we go from here. Dreadful.

I’ve said it for years. With the alternative being Jose we should have kept LvG as the likes of Rashford & Martial would have been far better players for it.
I initially thought this, but the likes of Ornstein and Mitten have basically said in their own words it's not just clickbait.
Hmmm, I feel like the leaks these iTKs were getting have dried up post Ineos & people are clutching.

I think Ineos will consider Southgate, what I’m saying is it won’t simply be a choice of EtH or Southgate.

For me. EtH doesn’t deserve to stay in the role so you address that & then the next manager. If there’s no other manager in world football that can do better than this next season we may as well go & watch bowls.
