Burnley have won as many PL games this season by more than one goal as us.

It's been an issue all throughout ETH's tenure but especially this season. Almost every win we do manage is only by the odd goal and ends with us clinging on at the end. We just don't have comfortable wins.

Useless stat.

Part of me fears that Jim wants an English manager, in which case we'd have to consider Southgate and Potter. I reckon the Euros will be the former's last tournament (win or lose), and I reckon Jim will sound him out in advance if he really wants him. Am hoping Potter isn't on the radar because IMO he needs to prove himself at a big club first.

FTR I can see Jim going for a foreign manager, possibly Tuchel or Nagelsman.

Hopefully he goes down the foreign route, maybe if I hadn't seen recent evidence of Potter at a bigger club I wouldn't write him off so easily

Useless, but still interesting. What it confirms -- and I'm going to assume it's true -- is that we've been scraping by a lot of clubs we should have pounded, the word "should" perhaps belonging in air quotes as it used to the be the case that we would pillage clubs Luton Town and Wolves.

So the stat is useless only in the sense that we already know watching United all season that we've been scraping results against clubs we used to pillage, but for those with short memories, it's actually a pretty good stat.

Roma replaced Mourinho and they now have 9 wins in 10 games or something like that. They beat Brighton 4-0. They are fifth in their league.

Same players.

I don't know why so many fans gave up, there are still many games this season, we don't have to suffer through this shit ETH is serving us. Get a caretaker manager, and we'll certainly improve. ETH is our main problem, not the players, and not the injuries.

And how many times "same players" turned around their performances for us when a new manager came in and then reverted to mean after that? There was a point when people were happily shitting on Rangnick because "look, we didn't need to replace 10 players!" last season.

These players dont have it in them to keep consistently perform and raise their level for good. They put in 2-3 good performances and then lose to Fulham at home. 0 consistency.

There's a clear pattern for everyone out there to see.

All the noises around INEOS takeover were that they want this transition to take 3 years. If we are after persisting with ETH for several years until we see the right manager available, Ratcliffe might be approaching 80 or be already dead by the time we finally make up our minds.

I don't think we are just going to wait for the sake of it, I think they will have a series of meetings with ETH where he will lay out his plan - which he seems to actually be quite good at - and they will give him a new contract with guarantees and some control over transfers (not full like now but still substantial), fully believing he can do the job.

Jeez I really hope that doesn't happen,INEOS need to be proactive on this one. Don't buy into this idea the options available are underwhelming

Making the slightly more unpleasant/difficult decision is far too mentally taxing for some. Obviously including our board.

‘The season is a write off anyway’ (so they proclaim in fecking dec/jan/feb). How common is that phrase around here?

Let ETH waste the rest of the season and guarantee a 7th place finish. Feck it lets give him next season to piss away as well, why not. It’s just one more season, practically a write off already.

Which caretaker would you want?

I don't give a fart about whatever patterns in the clouds you are seeing. I care about what I watch during our games.

What I do know is that I don't want to watch for 2 more months of the shit ETH is serving us all year. ETH has failed, it's over, he will be gone in the summer anyway, just get rid of him right away. Get any caretaker manager, I don't care who, it doesn't matter, he will just be a caretaker.

I want to watch football, not ETH's smelly turd. It is simple. Enough already.

I don't care. Anyone. Roma found Daniele De Rossi . We can't find anyone? Is it that hard? It is just till the summer.
Anyone ? Sounds like you just want a new toy.

Not sure about what was happening at Rona but we know many of the players we have are not up to snuff. Been on this managerial merry go round and so far it has not worked very well.

How many more times are you going to say "I can't watch this shit anymore?".

At this point, Maguire as a player-manager will do better than ETH till the end of the season. ETH is our main problem today.

Is it so hard to realize that a manager who spent 400 million and made us play worse than before is the main problem today?

He doesn't know what he is doing. Get rid, and hopefully he will take Antony with him at Bayern, Real, Barca or wherever he is going next (probably home). Thank you and good luck. Enough is enough!

Maybe you should really give a fart about what has been happening since 2013.

But I guess 1 season of 3rd/4th and then the next season completely in the mud with you asking for the flavor of the month manager again is what you really enjoy.

Roma just having the "Mourinho out effect".
Get him in as caretaker until summer, then immediately fire him and get in the preferred choice for new season.

Do you guys seriously thinks this lot will play hard for ETH? He doesn't have the charisma or personality of a motivating manager and he doesn't seems passionate. Just look at Klopp, Pep and Artete at the sidelines. Win, lose or draw, their expression say it all. We are losing, he sit there without any idea what he can do to change our predicament. Those subs that he puts in hardly turn the game on this head except McTominay who scores a few. We need to part way with him ASAP and hope he joins a rich club so he can take Antony, Mount and Rashford with him. Sack him now so Munich, Barcelona and other clubs can have a free run at him.

Ye that seems like a repetitive thing. It happened under Ole. And then the players down tools again in the 2nd season. We always have a decent first season under a new manager and then it goes pear shape.

Can't believe some people still bother defending Ten Hag. The whole allure and point of bringing him here was to see the team adapt to modern changes and play a modern brand of football with emphasis on controlling games and technicality yet we're playing some terrible football and getting outplayed by bottom tier teams. Basically what had been going on with his predecessors.

Hopefully when he's gone soon, we'll look to work on releasing a lot of these players who have been the common denominator between us playing terrible football and every manager who came here. As much as I blame Ten Hag for the horrid football and been disillusioned with him, he's the second manager in a row who has tried to implement a more modern style of football yet couldn't get it done and instead opted to revert to transition football. Ragnik and now Ten Hah have both failed to implement the brand of modern football that they and us wanted partly due to personnel.

The likes of Rashford, Bruno, etc aren't conducive to the type of football these managers wish to implement. Too careless with the ball which makes it extremely hard to control games, especially against decent teams. Part of the reason Ten Hag choose to become a transition team despite initially coming in with the idea of being a more controlling, processing team was due to the fact he'd realized he couldn't pull it off with the likes of Rashford, Bruno who also happened to be his key players, so he had to adapt and choose to implement what would be a strength for this specific personnel which was counter attacking football.

I would have felt sorry for Ten Hag but he was given the opportunity to get his own players but he ended up squandering loads of money on players who turned out to be duds. He was given the chance through money and time to put together a decent team that could play good football yet has miserably failed. Given the football on display is horrible, I see no point sticking with him. The biggest sell on Ten Hag was this idea that he'd bring good football and hasn't done so. Time to part ways.

Not to say they were hugely successful but Jose and Ole's first two full seasons were largely fine in terms of results. For them it was a third season meltdown, although I would argue the signs were there that it wasn't sustainable in the 2nd season.

I think I remember reading that on here after the 4-3 loss away to Copenhagen in November.

Compare that to Real Madrid's fans who were booing after 20min on wednesday against Leipzig. While the match was still a draw which would have seen them through. Just because they didn't like how the team played. Meanwhile United fans (at least a lot of them): "Write off the season, support the manager" And the same fans keep claiming to be fans of the biggest club in the world. It's really baffling.

It's not that baffling. United fans are not actually that experienced when it comes to top level Football. We suffer from the same blindness than the owners, SAF managed the club in a way that shileded us from the realities of Football which largely rely on accepting that you will make mistakes and be willing to fix them quickly, managers and players have a relatively short shelf life because the vast majority of people can't sustain absolute excellence for long periods of time(2 to 4 years is generally the max) and all of that generally only happen in a high pressure context, a pressure that comes from within AND outside.

In a way, we are the trust fund babies of professional sport. A strange mix of naivety and entitlement.

PS: I'm talking about the younger fans, the under 45 years old. Older fans have seen what happens to a massive club when you act the way some of the younger fans do.

United fans and their weird reverence for managers is the only thing keeping him in a job at the moment. Any other fanbase would have unanimously turned on him by now.

I am 33 and I do agree with your analysis here.

Let me tell you though, the last 11 years has definitely changed all that. I was naive when Sir Alex retired, and was blinded like the owners. Now, like the owners it seems, I no longer am. I sincerely hope this applies to the rest of the trust fund babies of professional sport, who technically speaking should be 11 years older and wiser.

So you think fans booing our team will get the manager sacked ? As in, the glazers do listen to fans? That’s an important message that United fans need to hear.

Do you know any random tweeter (did I say it right?) who has posted something like this? Preferably with one of those blue ticks, they usually look more credible. Copy it here and more people will get the “factual” message.

"These players"? Ten Hag has signed enough players to field a new team completely to the one Rangnick had pretty much.

It's like Trigger's broom this squad. People talk about these players letting managers down that we had about 10 years ago

I think results would need to get extremely bad for Ten Hag to be sacked before the season ends. I have a feeling that the new owners have privately told him that he will not be getting a new contract and there is an agreement to part ways in the summer. Just a feeling.

Exactly. Spurs are the perfect example as they looked a bigger mess than us the last few years. They went through all the managers and they couldn't get a tune out of them. Then Ange comes in and even though they sold their best player and didn't replace him, he's got then playing some of the best football in the league. The point is that Spurs stumbled across the right manager eventually. The household names like Jose and Conte failed.

Not many even on here thought Ange would do anything there. Probably the same ones that are saying to stick with ETH as there's no other options.

The fans are largely to blame for our mediocrity these last 10 years. When you have owners that go with the status quo, they will lean on fan sentiment. Then we've got a fanbase that won't or can't recognise when something or someone isn't working. Be it managers or players. The same fans that were criticising Rashford in Ole's last season were happy clapping the fecker all last season and are now turning on him again. When Pogba brought the club into a circus along with Jose, that was quickly forgotten in Ole's first season. And then they ask why players get so many chances here? Stupidity at its finest.

Careful mentioning Ange here, ETH got us 3rd and A CUP last year, whereas Ange is now already guaranteed to finish trophyless.

The cup alone should buy ETH at least 3 free pass seasons.

Yep, depending on the exact definition of “first team squad” we have only around half of the first team squad (10-12 players) left from Ole times, 5-6 players from Jose, 2-3 from LvG and no one from Moyes. People sometimes act as if there has been very limited squad turnover which is just not true.
