We have had a lot of injuries, but even with our squad basically fully fit it's been mediocre.
How many matches have we played with a “basically” fully fit squad minty?

People keep raving about the amazing football Newcastle and Spurs play.
But when Newcastle got exactly TWO injuries, they fell apart. Spurs too.
And I'm getting pretty sick of that cliche about the 400 million. He didn't get an entire squad for the money. He got 5 players. It's entirely on our shit structure and lack of planing, that we are forced to overpay for players again and again.
This has been an issue for 10 years, surely you can't blame managers for that.
Actually, the only transfer target that I recall ETH publicly insisted on and pushed for, was FDJ.
And the only reason the idiots at the board had to pay insane money for Antony and Casemiro, was because they once again were way too late and had to panic buy after we got trashed by Brentford.
A properly run football club secures Antony in March and buys him in June for 30 million max.
Hope the Man Utd of the Villa game turn up today and not the West Ham one. The inconsistency is killing us.
I'm hopeful there will be a clear style of play when we have a solid back 4 with Shaw, Licha and Maguire back. A solid midfield of casemiro and Mainoo while our forwards build in confidence.Newcastle got a boatload of injuries and Spurs had quite a few too, but they're also not amazing teams.
City have lost 2 of their best players but they've also lost Mahrez and Gundo last season.
We have had a lot of injuries, but even with our squad basically fully fit it's been mediocre. There is no style of play and the players are confused as to what they're supposed to be doing. ETH would be failing regardless, injuries just buy him time.
We've got someone proper overseeing us now. I dont think it will be tolerated to just not show up in games.
Excellent post, pretty much how I feel about Ten Hag. I said at the beginning of the "easy" run of games we had September to November - this is the moment to experiment with the squad you have. He could've tried a few things, bottom line is the fans would've forgiven him some bad results if they saw the progress. What happened - he just stuck with this ridiculous setup in which McTominay is the key attacking player, we scraped some result but never looked anything more of a 5-10 team in the league. And that made me lose faith in ETH.ten Hag can't afford any drubbings now. If he had put in the hard yards and tried to implement a proactive style from the jump, he'd have a lot less people against him.
People don't like to see the word cowardly thrown around. But he's been in self-preservation mode for pretty much his entire reign after those 2 opening defeats. Always looking for quick fixes instead of taking his medicine. Things like starting McTominay in the hope that he'll keep a rare goal streak going.
Now he's at a stage where if he was to commit a high pressing/counter pressing style, he has too many defeats in the bank to carry that extra weight (defeats).
He should have played the long game like Ange is at Spurs. He's fully committed to his style. They have very poor squad depth compared to United, yet still find themselves 5 points ahead while missing van de Ven, Romero, Bissouma, Bentancur and Maddison for spells of the season. Some of it inflicted by unnecessary suspensions (Bissouma). Spurs will benefit from it in the long term. The style is there. What's needed is more squad depth and an upgrade or two on the likes of Richarlison.
He's basically got to find a way scrape 4th/5th to save his job. That probably means he's going to be pragmatic. It's certainly not impossible. United have a better squad than Spurs, Newcastle, West Ham and Brighton. Villa are the ones who might be difficult to catch if they strengthen in January.
Exactly. Last season we seen glimpses of ETH style. And scored some beautiful team goals when we had a fully fit squad. This season we’ve changed the defence and midfield god knows how many times. We lack leaders on the pitch aswell when there’s no Casemiro, Martinez. How many matches have we played with a “basically” fully fit squad minty?
Because we’ve had them out for so long so no doubt they’ll improve us massively when they return but again that will be a couple of weeks after returning. They could return a bit rusty. We rarely make signings in January but the club need to use Bruno as a template. After signing him in January after a defeat to Burnley we went on an unbeaten run. They say 1 signing can’t make a difference but the right one with the right mentality can go a long way and improve others around him.Ten Hag talking about players returning from injury as "new signings", given how often our managers trot out that line, they have to be directed from above to say it. No signings in January then.
That is just not true at all, can't understand why people still say this.
There is probably not a manager out there that would say no to a strong addition to their squad midseason.I'd love it if for once a manager said "love the Jan transfer window, it can make a big difference and we're going to do business."
As opposed to "it's difficult, not the best time to buy, not much money, probably won't do much if anything."
It’s genuinely much quieter after a win on here. There are a number of posters who seem to come alive after a loss though and hammer their keyboards into oblivion. Let’s hope for a big win and a bit of calm heading into the new year. A win today and we are right in the fight for top 4.There’s more sanity in the forum when United are not looking so bad and when we lose it’s like a MAGA site with all the crazies taking over
This is a strange post because that midfield is literally proven?I have to say I don't see the managers logic even when we have the first choice midfield fit and well.
In a 433.
The three man midfield first choice is what,
Cass at 6
Ericson at 8
Bruno at 10.
So that doesn't shout high pressing to me. Nor does it seem a keep the ball at all costs side either. They are great players but it looks slow and out runnable to me.
So what is the style then?
I know it is full team game but the midfield is the key to setting a style and it isn't an excuse to say we have been destroyed by injuries( though we have been) because this midfield has played a lot of games.
Who did the manager bring in the summer to make this midfield work. Mount and Amrabat. Again good players but I don't see any combination which wins us the league.
I think his decisions are questionable and the results and performances don't suggest he has improved very much so far.
Our squad has been a mess due to injuries and poor squad planning by the club.I have to say I don't see the managers logic even when we have the first choice midfield fit and well.

Jesus, even City are struggling without KDB and Haaland.
How would any of those incredible, insanely great, a joy to watch, greatest ever football teams cope with the amount of injuries United had to deal with this season?
Again - ETH made mistakes, but surely you can't ignore this massive factor.

Yep he’s toiled and tried to make do with almost an entire first choice XI (besides the GK) out or injured at one point and yet people still wanted to see some sort of “ange” consistency. Imagine trying to play out from the back or try implementing a high line with a CB duo of Maguire and Evans. There’s loads to criticise the manager for without people having to invent things. That is just not true at all, can't understand why people still say this.

Completely agree.I'd rather ETH kept Garnacho and Rashford on the wings and thrown McT as a striker. Antony is practically useless and is too easy to defend against. Rashford is not a striker, he only performs as a wide forward or in a two-man strikeforce. It comes off as stubborn planning, continuing to stick square pegs in round holes.
It's these types of lineups that seemingly shows ETH does not have the tactical nuance others at this level repeatedly show. Pep would probably use Bruno as a false 9 with someone supporting him, or some other mad scientist plan that has fans scratching their heads but confident nonetheless. It does not work every time but it definitely shows something on the pitch versus just garbage output.
I want this manager to succeed but he's seemingly going to die on this consistent hill of his. He needs to tweak this lineup to start the second half, take control and bury Forest.
Antony is a fecking nothing player and he puts him out right again. Why not try something different? Keep Garnacho on the right, Rashford left and a false 9. Anything but this painful shite.
I've never played professional football but I can guarantee you I could get this team to ve better attacking football then ETH! Time and time again you see our players in the attacking third out wide, dicking about with the ball with short passes to each other rather than looking to get a cross in, and inevitably losing the ball.
