Let him finish the season and go from there, he shouldn't be allowed to control as much of the transfers though, if he should stay. He might be a good manager but he doesn't have an eye for talent.

I'm all for ETH riding this out, really hope that he does and we're sold by the cnuts, but letting him finish the season no matter what, at this current rate would be downright lunacy. We're looking down the barrel of being beat four times straight at home.

We got the trophy because the run was gerrards Villa, Burnley, Charlton, Forest and Newcastle. Loved it all the same but lets be honest
I agree the trophy is a bit overblown, but bruno and rash Ford scored every game. To claim they are the problem is odd

As bad I think he's set us up in the EPL, I don't think tonight was on Ten Hag. Calamitous errors by Onana, Dalot and Rashford did us in, not bad tactics or substitutions. Otherwise, it's an easy 3-1 win with no Casemiro red card.

Worrying times though as in general, the squad has been absolute trash from the start this season.

If you think I enjoy watching my team lose, being continually humiliated and battered twice a week then you need to have a word with yourself. You should focus your frustration on the man responsible for making you feel this way, not the people who can see the issues you can't.
Nah, you couldn't fecking wait to get on could you. Hope you've got your City shirt pressed for the day.

Let's get serious here guys.

The club couldn't offload fecking Harry Maguire who we don't need let alone sell Dalot.

That same Dalot who is now our ONLY left back AND right back!

Buy some fullbacks you say?! We barely got over the Amrabat deal with a loan, we're fecking skint, didn't you get the memo?!

Stop playing players who are useless you say?

The feck is he gonna play at right back?! They're all fecking injured!!!

A loanee defensive midfielder is playing as our left back for crying out loud.

Get a fecking grip.
BS

The reason why we're broke is because we were spending a lot of money on the likes of Antony, it's been piss poor planning in a recruitment sense. How do you not see that? :wenger:

I think it's premature to call out Mount and Hojlund as not being good enough. Same for Amrabat and Regulon.

Onana is going to be his problem. And only Onana can fix that, he needs to turn it around. That said, I don't think sacking and rage quitting a project will do the club any good whatsoever.
I think the one's he didn't sign because he knew them might end up being alright, like Hojlund and Casemiro for example, but the rest haven't improved us at all and he can't drop them because he doesn't trust anyone else or he's fell out with them.

Very seriously worried now…

Has the feel of how the Jose and Ole tenures started moving towards their demise. The leaks, questions over player application toward the manager, lack of identity and above all that, the crowd starting to vent their frustration.

Tone was set in the summer with no sale and inability to rid players. However I had faith ETH was hard shelled and authoritative enough to continue the progression from last season. Unfortunately we’re now seeing a blend of the bi gone weak minded players mixed with new signings with no platform to express themselves.

For me, if the gaffer truly has bollocks. Assuming they were all fit but I drop Bruno, Rashford, Onana. I play Garnacho, Antony and Hojlund up top. Hannibal, Mount and Maino in midfield. Sounds probably crazy but I’ve been around football long enough to see these kids have some fecking bite and that’s a start.

A team when is changing 2-3 players in the summer cant go from 3rd to 14th without players giving up. It happened with Jose and Ole too. This is our culture now, and without changing it, we won't be successful. The first and most important thing that ETH should have asked this summer, should have been to sell Martial, Shaw, Rashford, McT, Sancho, Maguire*. He didn't. So this problem will persist.

*I m not blaming them for today. It's just that these players have embraced this "I give up" culture.

Yes surely any manager would have sold his top goalscorer and performer at the end of the season.
Club tried to sell Mct but he didn't want to leave. Maguire also.
I'm sure we would have never find buyers for Martial and Sancho based on their recent showings.
Also Shaw was solid last season.

totally agree

He's not being helped by injuries but the fact of the matter is he's made big transfer decisions and currently a few of those look huge mistakes.

come on man. Most of those lot are not on the pitch.

It is clear to see we are not well drilled.

No repeating patterns of play. No shape. Wide open through the middle and the back.

The effort is there but everything we do on the field is ad hoc.

We can’t keep the ball so we can’t get control of game.

None of them can play with patterns, so last year we had to accommodate them.

Again I m not blaming them for a specific performance.

He will be gone after the Brentford game
Not sure our board will be that quick to react. They sacked Mourinho 6 months too late, same with Ole and perhaps same with Moyes and van Gaal.

Not that I'm for sacking EtH but trouble is that it's not a broken team but a broken club. It's a cycle that keeps happening with every manager.

The main problem is he's losing winnable games now. Even the most pessimistic persons wouldn't have expected us to lose to Palace and Galatasaray at home. Hell, even me who thinks he's an awful coach, expected us to win both games, yet here we're.

This is different than losing to Spurs or Arsenal at home. We're now losing games we should be bossing and at our home.

He won't see this through. Needs a miracle now.

At the end of the day if players have given up it’s up to ETH to call them out on it within the club parameters and drop them if they’re not performing, tonight Fernandes and Rashford were fecking awful and not for the first time so show them who’s boss and drop them as no one is bigger than the manager or the club.

I'm a massive ETH fan and wanted him for a few years before we got him as I loved what he was doing at Ajax but he’s not playing the same way for us and allowing some players a free ride as they’re not dropped regardless of form, I’d honestly play kids over some of these ‘senior’ players as we’ve seen with Garnacho and Mainoo that playing with zero fear and youthful exuberance can be a god send.

I don't know how you solve that short term let alone long term, but I'm really struggling to see how Ten Hag can change things at this point unless he starts knocking some idle heads together. How the players respond is up to them.

I'm pretty sure he's tried that, no? The players are an extension of the club and those that run it. Largely clueless, half-hearted, unaccountable and narcissistic. Good luck to anyone working with that.

I think we also have to be realistic here. The Glazers are now in a position where they can't really sack Ten Hag. There's not much money left and it won't really appease the fans. The results are bad and we look aimless in attack unfortunately, but we are in the middle of an injury crisis.

I would really like to see Ten Hag show some bottle. Rashford and Bruno are not in a position to be starting games they need to be dropped for a while and let them work there way into the team.

We are in a lot of trouble with Onana though. Before he was bought I didn't rate him but I genuinely didn't think he could be this bad.

But these signings are the clubs fault. Who was the competition to buy Antony? Why did we pay so much? Ten Hag should have at most a say in transfers but he has to step back in identifying transfers because as he has shown he is very much out of his depth in that department.

I just don't see what the point is in sacking him though. It will end up being a merry go round of sacking, rinse repeat until the club actually gets it's act together. Fletcher, Arnold etc need to go and a proper set up put in place. The DOF needs to be a real football man and let Ten Hag focus on the team because it appears he has gotten himself involved in all matters of the club.

Things will get worse but I believe it will get better. We have run out of options now, we have to see it through. I believe Ten Hag is trying to clean out the problems and until its done the next man will just have the same problems, even if sacking him will help us all feel better for a short while, just remember it will happen again unless we see it out.

I agree the trophy is a bit overblown, but bruno and rash Ford scored every game. To claim they are the problem is odd

yeah they were very good last season. The problem is in my opinion we still rely on them pulling something out of the bag which is why we carry on playing them even when form drops. As we see at the moment.

It's like the players bought into his schtick at the start of last season, and we started to improve. After the league cup the heads dropped again, complacency rose, and we started fecking up. And now we're at that point where these same players, who have done it about two or three times before, have completely given up.

I don't know how you solve that short term let alone long term, but I'm really struggling to see how Ten Hag can change things at this point unless he starts knocking some idle heads together. How the players respond is up to them.

I don't think the players "have completely given up". They are trying hard, but they are not world class players. We have spent 400 million on average players. And ETH doesn't really help. For example, last year ETH was constantly playing Wout, who was useless. People make excuses, that Wout is running and trying. However, you need your striker to score goals, not to just run around like a headless chicken. But ETH seemed happy with that. This year, again we have Mount and we don't know what to do with him. ETH just moves Bruno around, trying to accommodate first Wout, now Mount. This is not a good plan.

After spending 400 million you expect to get at least a couple of world-class players, but didn't get any. We only have average players. And an average manager.

why not lindeloff right back Dalot left back and not a slow ass centre mid ?

how about not blowing our budget on players that were not a priority

No idea what he is trying to achieve, or that the players do really

No organisation at the back, no balance in the midfield which everyone could have predicted given the players involved

Not doing his job properly

BS

The reason why we're broke is because we were spending a lot of money on the likes of Antony, it's been piss poor planning in a recruitment sense. How do you not see that? :wenger:

Piss poor planing?!

You watch the game today?

Rasmus, Mount and Eriksen were the standard today.
You know who brought them in?

Yes, Onanas brain fart cost us the game, fine, but let's not get all blind.

Agree, but, ultimately, they are still 2 players who can create a special moment, which is still what we rely on unfortunately.
So special that Bruno missed a sitter in the 3rd minute and Rashford completely misplays a breakaway? Sometimes players like this deserve to start because of their special qualities, but you have to sit them for a couple games to allow them to get their head on straight.

Fine, lets keep playing them and change managers every 2 years.

Brother, if you didn't see their stupidity and 0 IQ football tonight, then its hopeless discussing.
Dalot, Rashford, and Bruno's collective football intelligence today was negative. Not even a 0.

I mean, as a player:
How do you waste that chance 1 on 1 with the keeper with Bruno busting his gut on the other side?? Give me any half decent PL attack and he squares that accurately for a clear goal.
How do you keep making simple passes to the opposition player in the middle of the pitch?? Give me a decent PL midfielder who completes his actual simple passes to keep the game moving
How do you even think to defend that 1st goal even? Any half decent full back doesn't let it get that far.

so true. Those three need dropping hard. We have injuries but I’d rather play youngsters

Why do people keep repeating that he’s blown £400m? Onana looks fecking awful, granted, & Antony looks worth barely half of what we paid but Martinez, Hojlund (early days), Casemiro & Mount (he’s a very good player) as his other big buys I wouldn’t classify as a waste of money?

But yeah, I’m pretty sure Ajax fans warned us - to keep him away from signing players - just let him coach. Anyway, not looking good for him right now and not sure he’s going to turn this around.

This has that late stage energy where a series of poor results turn the fans on the manager to where the end is nigh.

Has the smell of burning manager about it. I don't know what the answer is. We've got players phoning it in, no discernible plan on the field, injuries boot all over the place and owners who hide themselves away in their Florida bunker while all turns to crap. I feel sorry for Erik. There should have been a system in place for him so that all he had to do was coach. He'll carry the can but those who really deserve the boot are firmly entrenched.

Ok I’ll get serious… he shouldn’t have wasted 90m on Antony and he should of spent wisely… you can get a better player for halve of that and then that leaves change for another position like say a full back as you mentioned… he’s wasted money on a keeper that has no idea how to save shots. If our scouting team did their job proper they could have found alternatives but ETH wanted the guy he’s worked with before… out of his recruitments so far I’d say probably 2 have worked out to be fairly successful so far. Obviously the verdict is still out on Mount and Hojlund. But he has to be better at picking players and smarter.

You must have a very difficult life if you think it would be an easy 3-1 win

Also Shaw was solid last season.

Yes he should have because Rashford can't play modern football. He is a luxurious player, and talent wise he is miles off other luxurious players so you can't justify keeping him.

Also, Shaw was really good last year but thats typical of him. One year good, one year missing. Selling him would have been a statement of changing culture.

Well, if he can't explain to his upper management why keeping all these players is bad, then he is not really suited. Of course, if the upper management can't reach the same conclusion on its own, it means they are incompetent. Now, that's hardly news.

maybe this is some kind of pre planned long-con from ETH to bring the club down because we beat Ajax in the Europa diddy cup final

He made us worse with stupid signings that are apparent from miles away that it was never going to work. And spend a fortune to do that. Had we remained with the same players and shape from last season instead of trying to work a midfield of Casemiro-Mount-Bruno + modern keeper bullshit we'd be better off right now.

He is the one who signed Mount, Onana, Amrabat etc. and made the squad worse. Worse than Ole. He sould be sacked on the spot.

Piss poor planing?!

Yes, Onanas brain fart cost us the game, fine, but let's not get all blind.
No, poor defending cost us the game today. Ten Hag picked the team, devised the tactics. He needs to take responsibility. Mount and Eriksen were great? Really?
