given the same time Rang has with us without any transfers, Pep and Klopp would have performed similarly too.

Absolutely. If he's allowed to move on players he deems not good enough and brings in players which he and the new recruitment team have agreed on then i'll be very patient with the transition.
That Sam Wallace article seems utter bollocks. Firstly he says Ramsay was promoted from the youth setup - he wasn’t, he says the club were dismayed by Ragnick saying it’s a 6 year rebuild when in reality Ragnick said nothing of the sort so the fact they’re dismayed is a bit odd and then it also says Ragnick has told Fletcher to stop shouting on the bench - which reads like something you’d get on a parody Twitter account. Then the big McLaren story is there has been some resistance but we’ll likely get him anyway.
Does that really matter though? Not like Phelan was winning trophies before he came back. Maybe that's the reason? Phelan hasn't really done much apart from wander around the place in his shorts and treat the job like a tribute act, perhaps their worried McClaren would also use it as a retirement home? Or maybe they're worried if thing's start going to shit people will get on McClaren's back like they did with Carrick, Phelan, Fletcher etc.

We had plenty of 7 or 8/10 players, some peak/coming to end of careers (Moran, Albiston, Stapleton) some starting (Whiteside) plus McGrath and Robson.
I'd take pretty much any of that first XI over this lot, partly for ability but mainly for attitude.
That said, the club was a mess and needed someone to lay plans down. Took Fergie years as he had to clear the bits/players out that he didn't want and start to improve it. You don't do that in one season.. when it clicked, we were a winning machine.
Despite all our money, all our sponsors, all our worldwide fame, we've been left behind in how a modern club should be run and the various parts interact. If the board/senior positions truly sort that out and Ten Hag can get the support he needs, we'll be back. Probably take a bit but that's ok as long as we have a clear plan and making progress each season.

Like what Moyes did when he first came -- got rid of all of Fergie's staff.
He's someone who knows the club, the league and the country. Not the most stupid thing for ten Hag to want close to him.
This is the first sensible managerial appointment (with a view to the future and an exciting playing style) since Fergie left. The job was too big for Moyes. LVG was going to be short term and the football was so dull, Jose would always be gone in 2-3 years max after his customary self-destruction and Ole should have gone at the end of the 2018-9 season.
